I thinking of upgrading to a better amp head. I'm gonna use a mesa cab but Im divided between getting a rectifier or a Peavey 6505/5150+. I know that the Peavey is tighter and more clarity with gain and that the rectifier is better toned and warmer when saturated. However I have heard that mesa's lose a lot of clarity when turned up all the way and that although the peavey is not nearly as good as a recto it holds up better at high volumes and is much cheaper. Can U give me your opinion on it?
I'm not a pro with this stuff, but how do you use a rack and what do you have on yours? How much would it cost. I run both a Gibson LP Studio and an ESP/ltd M-1000 with EMGs through a KH 120 half stack
@TheBLOODLINEmusic my rack changes all the time-- right now I have a GCX, Rocktron Hush Super C, power conditioner, all kinds of effects, BBE sonic maximizer... it is about twice the size of this video now.
You can get a million different combinations on a rack-- from multiple effects processors, preamps, power amps, power conditioners, noise gates, noise eliminators, graphic equalizers-- the possibilities are endless...
Best way to describe it- take a raw sound and make it yours.
you may plug an effect processor in the loop of your amp, but you may put a noise eliminator before the amp.... different configs for different effects/units! :)
dude i need help i put my Line 6 Floor pod plus through the fx loop and when i do it i am losing alot of volume and my originally set up tone sounds super weak. please respond
if so, it is a parallel loop, so make sure the loop send signal is up where you need it (start at half way, and adjust from there). Also-- I am not familiar with the floor pod plus, so is it supposed to be in the loop, or in front of the amp?
my loop goes thru hush super c, 2 eventides, and a bbe... no loss of volume or tone... but that is all made to be in the loop :)
The roadtser's much smoother and sounds much big, the first two channels are pretty much straight off a lonestar, so nice chimey cleans an great reverb. The Mark IV is much tighter, more compressed and I think it puts more of it's own colour on the sound. They're a bit more sudden but thinner sounding. Great for leads, but falls down elsewhere. I always wanted a mark IV, tried that and a roadster side by side and bought the roadster, and would again.
Can you tell me the difference between the regular double/trip rectifier and the Road King head compared to this? I'm not sure which to get. There are so many options.
I went out to buy a dual rec, and found the roadster- it is much smoother and refined than the DR, even though the channels are supposed to be the "same". The RK is the balls though, 4 channels with assignable tube power, 2 FX loops, 2 speaker outs. The roadster is great- if you dont need 2 loops and 2 sets of spkrs, I would get the roadster. If you have the $, I wouldnt even look at the DR/TR.
Nu Metal- DR/TR, Petrucci/Prog sound- RK or Roadster.
That is a lot of amp to have tucked into a corner of a bedroom. I have a triple rectifier and only use it at gigs and band practice. It is way too much for anything else. IMO. I have even been thinking about selling off my triple rec and 4x12 cab to get a roadster 2x12 for gigs.
Power conditioner is like a really nice surge protector that also gives your amp and electronics a nice steady flow of power. Tube amps are very sensitive to fluctuations in power.
The middle thing is the Rocktron Hush super C. It is a noise eliminator... again, tube amps produce a lot of background noise, and this takes care of that so all you hear is what I want you to!
out of curiousity why did you get a noise eliminator when you have a power condition? dosent a power conditior not only protects against surges but also cleans up 'dirty' power which eliminates noise and/or static...
a power conditioner definitely cleans up the noise you can get from crappy power...
however, a tube amp is inherently noisy... so the rocktron hush super c just eliminates that "buzz" you get from a tube amp while you are not playing, and it is completely quiet.... Granted, the "buzz" can be a lot worse without a power conditioner.
The pwr conditioner is primarily used to make sure an even stream of power goes to the amp. Tube amps are very susceptible to damage from uneven power.
Hmmm... in short, yes, a power conditioner can increase the life of the tubes...
mostly because it gives a steady stream of usable and good power so that they do not get fluctuations of power which can decrease life (and seriously screw with your amp)...
percentage? If your power source sucks (like say you live in a 3rd world country) I would say it can increase the life 100%. Other than that, not quite sure what percentage!
Yeah, I love the cab. I haven't heard it through a Stiletto cab... would be interested to try it.
I originally had a 2x12 rectifier cab, and there is a very distinct difference in the 2x12 and 4x12. Also heard my head through a Marshall 4x12, and that also was not as pleasing as the rectifier 4x12.
The rectifier 4x12 gives off a very "thick" sound, and if you are not into that, then I can see why people would not want this cab. It is virtually perfect for me, though.
hey bro, what were your Output and back-end settings for this? And this is on Raw, right? I want to try your setting and work from there to see if I can improve my lead sound.
uhh.. dont remember, but it is the cheapest one on musician's friend.
It has lasted about a year now, with gigging.... but I would not buy another one! All of the reviews I read on it complained about certain things that were right on.
Thanks man. I love the JEM, but I do not like that there are so many of them out there. Long story short, I ordered a custom Carvin DC145C, and it showed up broken after a 3 month wait. I sent it back, and 2 months later it was returned to me broken again with a different problem. I was so excited about that guitar, but it didnt work out. I went on a search for a guitar and went with the JEM. I love it, it is the best guitar I have played in a long time.
That really sucks man. It reminds me of how the ESP custom shop gets a lot of orders wrong for the US buyers. By the way, try a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24. :)
I did a lot when I was young. I have a "real" job now, and don't have the time to spend hours trying to get faster, but a lot of what I learned has stayed through the years. I play in an active band in Savannah, GA, and get a lot of practice that way as well.
do you have any recorded clips of this amp? I saw a mic up to your cabinet and want to hear some good quaility recordings :)

@snapascrew yep... did some recording for a singer/songwriter in savannah and he has some up on his myspace page--- myspace com/thomasclaxton

@Rectumfryer
I use it in the loop, but you can do either. Mine is in the loop from a wiring logistics standpoint

ha! Yeah, my wife hates it...
Luckily, the roadster sounds flippin great at low volumes... I even play it while my daughter is asleep in the next room!!
I think the roadster 2x12 would be perfect for gigs... Nowadays combos are so good, you just dont *need* a half stack anymore...
**but they still look cool!**

nice playing .but how does this guitar sound with heavy metal rythm playing.
mario4526 2 years ago
the pick-ups are pretty mid rangey compared to other pick ups....
the wood is alder with a maple/walnut neck. Personally (just my opinion), I think a mahogony body is a must for HEAVY metal sounds.
So I guess I would recommend looking at something else if you are trying for the heaviest of heavies.
