153 is a medium weight DMU with walk through capability,

class 142 was developed from a Leyland national Bus. yes a Bus

i saw a 142/143 hybrid the other day up near worksop, there is not much of a difference, just the nose of the units primarily, the 143 looks like a series 1 sprinter from the front (later sprinters had the walk through cockpit, early sprinters did not), the 142 still shows its bus origins. I think they have the same engine though, the TL10

@EastMidsTrainsHSTBoy It doesn't mean to test air brakes it means to blow them up (if air) or to create a vacuum which isn't really testing them it would usally be used after doing a brake test that the brakes on the train can now be released and the train would only held by the loco brake ready for departure (on loco hauled stock, cl91 + Mk4 stock). For a brake test the guard will ask the driver to destroy the pipe virbully and he'll go down the train to ensure that all the brakes have applyed.
