  • At start thought I was listening to LOST.

  • The music was good, but the film made me sad that Star Trek was rebooted, reenvisioned, reimagined, or whatever term they use. Star Trek is finally Dead!.

  • I ,literally, get goosebumps every time I hear this ... and I <3 it :)

  • James T Kirk has 3 ears, his right ear, his left ear.... and... The FINAL FRONTIER! :')

  • Space the final Frontier

  • alexisnomad I am right with you I have see all the movies with the original cast several times and all the movies with the cast of TNG and they are all GRRRRRRRREAT but this new Star Trek movie that came out in 2009 was the best Star Trek yet to date I would love to see it again I like Lenord Niemoys Cameo in the movie were he is on the ice planet i wont give away any more of the movie in case some of you all havent seen it yet the original series is great along with TNG

  • Such a cool track.

  • @ken1w same composer

  • When Nero's ship was drilling into Vulcan where were all the Vulcan ships? Surely at least one could have fired at the drilling platform cable and prevented Vulcan from being destroyed. At the end of movie Spock did just that and saved earth. I guess if Vulcan did not get destroyed the movie would have been quite short.

  • @hsharrott The Vulcan ships that do exist are primarily for scientific and research purposes, and did you see how the Narda (Nero's ship) took out a squad of Starfleet vessels?!? Sending unarmed civilian vessels into it's firing range would be like putting cookies within my arms reach!

  • Nice rendition of the theme. I like it...

  • For previous 10 Star Trek movies, the creators (including score composers) were trying to escape the "small" (TV) screen and GO BIG. Therefore, the music sounded more expansive and symphonic, like Star Wars. For JJ's Trek reboot, they wanted to recapture the original series "feel." Therefore, the music was less complex, less orchestral; it reminded me of the quirky music from the original Star Trek versus "classical" music by Goldsmith and Horner. I thought Giacchino's score was quite excellent.

  • @ken1w Don't you think it has a tinge of "nostromo" from the movie "aliens"?

The idea of planetary destruction is very well placed. War cannot be used to boost economic cycle when more than one planet is involved. The "cobal bombt" presently has the power to eliminate our biosphere. Star faring ships use a very high energy by means of total annihilation "fusion". War gamers do not understand this. Engaging in Interplanetary war would be using a-bombs to conquor Hawaii

  • @dynagravitomagnetic The excerpt in this video reminded my of some of the incidental music from "Lost."

  • @ken1w ...

  • absolute garbage compared to Mr James Horner

  • brb gotta go kick some Romulan arse and save humanity.

*gets sucked into drill of fire*

    "AUUUGGHHGHGHGGHGH!!"

  • This theme tune is called Hella BarTalk by Michael Giacchino :)

  • Gorgeous soundtrack. It really grows on you. Cracking movie as well.

  • Sounds like: The pillar of Autumn from Halo: Reach.

The Star Trek soundtrack was perfect for the audience/emotion and atmosphere of the film. A true masterpiece.

  • This is the theme that reminded me of Lost (this means I LIKED IT)

  • is there any longer vresion of this soundtrack?

  • great movie/series

  • Maybe not as epic as Wrath of Khan, or as sci-fi eerie as The Motion Picture, but this score is absolutely weighted with emotion.

  • reminds me of halo...

  • LOST MUSICIAN

  • star trek è un ideale...una ragione di vita!! Ma qua nex k speak un fia de italiano?

  • @4everSPQR hai ragione! è proprio un ideale, un film da rivedere fino all'infinito!!

  • this song is cool

  • Good one.

  • certainly sounds alot like michaels other word, "up" is probably the most individuel thing he's done, however bravo! can't get enough of michaels music

  • love the beat

  • Awesome gotta love the theme its like totally awesome

  • great music. it was a great film too

  • I just dreamed about this music cuz I fell ashleep

  • @ciscokitty8 Who and what are you talking about?

  • @gondfrank yeah and get like a million viruses from doing it. no thanks.

  • for some reason J.J. Abrahms likes alternate realities lol

  • For god sake's people. Take it for what it is. IT'S A FILM. Jesus get a life. I'm a star trek nut and i like all star treks.

  • also one thing i didnt like about the old series was its 2d characters everything was black and white but this new story arch makes everyone more believable as far as star trek can be made beliveable

  • well the entire movie was an alternate reality from the one in the tv series. if nero (niro?) and old spock hadnt come from the future, nothing would have changed

  • they even say in the movie that they created an alternate reality...

  • what are you talking about the movie made it work since almost ever ship and captain in star fleet was killed by Nero when the went to Vulcan it makes perfect sense

  • I thought Michael Giacchino's work on the film was genius because he WASN'T constantly blaring the TOS theme at us the whole movie and he had to come up with his own music to carry it. When it kicks in at the end is pretty nifty, but the movie is really about it's own musical experience (basically there's that music cue that starts in the Kelvin attack you see repeated throughout) which makes the film stronger.

  • Anyone know where i can get the music where they are fighting on the platform?

  • @generalflood You cant get a copy unless you record it from the film yourself.

I work in the industry and have called many offices to get bits of music cut from movie soundtraks, the answer is always "no" unless you want to rent the writes for a production

If you just wont take no for an answer call the music producers office, his name will be on the CD case, google his office number and give him a call. Cant hurt. His secrotary will answer the phone just so you know who your talking to gl

  • @ SlumberCats:

It's the 4th track on the soundtrack CD: Hella Bar Talk

  • Comment removed

  • whats the name of this track?

  • "sigh", trekkies... songs' still pretty cool though

  • Nero's arrival wouldnt have changed a dang thing. Kirk's father was NEVER in Starfleet, therefore Kirk's mother never would've been on the Kelvin to even give birth to James T. They added more questions then they answered. Alternate reality or not, time travel is the biggest excuse in the book for fixing timeline/canon mistakes. But my biggest beef with the score is that The Trek theme appears...at the END of the movie? Lame. And only 40 minutes of the score were released on CD...

  • its only at the end of the movie that it takes on the Trek....so in essence its setting up the future....they werent gelled as a group yet...in the end they are kirks enterprise not pikes...its a subtlety i personally liked the change.

  • I didnt look at it that way....thats a good point. But being a hardcore Trek fan I was hoping for more of Courage's Trek fanfare throught the movie at random points

  • Im still wondering if the time line is fixed. In the origional star trek uiniverse,Vulcan is not blown up and Kirks father didnt die that way or that early. So as Trek fans are we supposed to just get used to this new time line or what?

  • yes and i was a hard core trek fan and as much as they goofed around with time travel in the shows why are you even questioning this one its the only time travel story arch they ever did that made any since

  • ************* Nerd Alert!***********

it's a different reality, so there's the normal star trek timeline, this one is completely separate. It's like the episode of TNG when Warf goes through all the different realities and in some the borg have taken over the ship and others the federation is destroyed.

  • @adamt4553 Hey, absolutely no shame in being a nerd :)

  • Warning: This video contains extract of pure awesomeness.

  • lmao so true!!!!

I didnt like star trek before i saw this movie, it made stare trek cool/awesome!!!

  • why are people so lame sometimes give credit where credit is do this was great possivebly the best you'll see all year for most part they got it right and I love the new main theme song it feels heroic and has a sense of hope which has always been one of star trek's running themes through out all the series NOUGH SAID

  • in many series and also films of star trek there is a special unit of the federation which repairs manipulatet timelines to save the future. why not at the end of this film? ^^. with the destruction of vulkan the timeline is heavily damaged ^^

well ok perhaps it would destroy the amtmosphere of the film but so big parts of the star trek we know never gonna happen! ^^

  • The movie takes place in a totally seperate universe. They can't ruin our Star Trek.

  • No it doesn't.

  • Yea it is. The new Star Trek movie time line does not effect the original Trek time line in any way. As stated by the creators. They did this so they could create a new separate Star Trek universe without destroying the old one. A clean slate.

  • No it's not.

  • Yes. It. Is. As confirmed by Paramount, JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci, Memory Alpha and the timeline posted on the Star Trek Online game website. The film takes place in a divergent timeline that splits from the "Prime Timeline" in 2233. The Prime Timeline, last seen in Spock's flashback sequence from 2387, continues on, unaffected. You may not like it, but that is what the people in charge of the franchise have decreed, and no amount of whining "no it's not! I don't like that!" will change it.

  • You must feel good that your comments take up the entire page, good for you buddy. pat youself on the shoulder.

And I can whine all i want.

  • It's called being verbose. You should try it sometime. It's far preferable to simply making carte blanche four-word statements designed only to irritate and inflame people. You know, behavior generally reserved for 12-year-olds.

And most of those responses are to far earlier comments and shouldn't even be on the first page. It's not my fault YouTube's comment system is broken.

  • What did you call it "carte blanche four-word statements", well, it's sure is enough to get you to respond back, I'm aware of what I write no matter what. So don't you act like a child and pretend like Youtube doesn't post up our comments. Even though I'm aware that the host of the page has the option of controlling whats posted.

  • No... What I mean is, I responded to comments on pages two and three, not the front page, which should have been placed underneath them, indented, rather than at the top on the front page. YouTube's coding is lousy, and places comments randomly at times, then shifts them around. You implied I was attempting to flood the front page. This was not so. Case in point, this comment SHOULD appear underneath yours, slightly indented. Bet you anything it will appear directly at the top.

  • Yup. It did.

  • You're refering to the 29th Century time travelling Starfleet seen in Voyager, and Daniels' "faction" from the 31st Century seen in Enterprise, yes? They wouldn't change anything, since nothing changed from their point of view. They are from the future of the Prime Reality, which Nero's unique form of travel from 2387 to 2233 removes him and Spock from. It is left unchanged and intact. This new timeline is "virginal," skewing off the main timeline in 2233.

  • MY Fellow Star Trekkies! To what has granted us with such an amazing movie?

And amazing movie maker....And to him, we thank him for Star Trek! So say with me!

    HAIL STAR TREK!!!!

  • Wow, I can see where you're coming from, but chill out...there's no better way to scare new comers away from a great show/culture than by telling them they basically have no right to like what you like.

  • Yeah, okay. If you think so.

  • 2009 star trek was the best

i thought it would be horrible but it was really good!!

  • Yeah I think they should have added a little TNG but in the end they did the orgial theme for the credits

  • This soundtrack was ok. Definitely expertly done, but it has no timeless quality.

I think it's a lot like the movie in that way: well directed, but poorly written.

  • dumbass you don't even know what your talking about

  • booooooo

  • The visual is half the experience...the music is the other half, that most people dont realize =) Very good movie!

  • ADORE the movie (seen 6 times and always fresh), LOVE the music also.

  • i´ve seen ALL Films

    very c00l!!!

  • Holy... Really? All 737 hours? By 15! Damn... I thought I was bad. It took me until I was 25 to see it all, and not just because Enterprise ended right before I turned 25. I literally finally saw the one episode of TNG I had yet to see (the terrible "Sub Rosa") in 2005.

  • Yep and I started it over. I'm watching It all over again. It will take some time but I love star trek. I usually I watch 1 episode a day but sometimes I watch between 3 and 8 episodes a day. Some people think that I'm crazy. But i dont care. I just love to wacth star trek.

  • Star Trek Fan since 1966......thinks this is by far......the BEST star trek film.....better than ST2 Wrath of Khan, ST 4 the Voyage Home or ST 6 the Undiscovered Country or ST 8 First Contact

  • Oh yeah I've watched 20+ episodes of the orig Star Trek series.

A funny part was when in 1 episode Kirk slapped Spock like 6 times then Spock slapped Kirk a single time, and the Cap was almost thrown away :D

  • James T Kirk riding on his motorcycle through an Iowa cornfield......stopping.........to look at the shell of the starship under construction.....possibly the ENTERPRISE

  • it was the enterprise...

  • i thought taht this movie was really well cast. it doesnt look like it in this video, but i thought that everybody looked just like younger versions of the original cast (except for checkof).

  • my favorite guy is scotty i mean, hes really funny "the future, brillant, do they still have sandwiches there". I really got a kick out of that one when I first heard it.

  • Yeah but Scotty was sentenced to that remote outpost for losing Admiral Archers dog? Wouldn't that make him well over one hundered years old? Continuity, continuity, continuity....

  • I actually had the same question, concerning Admiral Archer's age. One of the directors explained this by pointing out that it is, indeed, the future. One might expect longer life expectancies, then.

  • Its also possible it is an entirely different person than the Archer on Enterprise.

  • I just don't believe that archer can live that long. If he lived to the movie that makes him 148 years old. McCoy in TNG is said to be the oldest human alive at the age of 137.

  • Gonna have to poke some holes in your logic there. At no point in "Encounter at Farpoint" is it said McCoy is "the oldest human alive." His age is stated, that's all. It seems a bit strange that now, in 2009, people can live to 120, but by 2364 (when Farpoint took place), 137 is the limit? Just 17 more years? But they can go faster than light, cure almost all diseases, and replicate any food on a whim? Not bloody likely. Besides, "Archer" may be another person entirely.

  • well in some novels it's stated that mccoy is one of the oldest humans alive. However in those novels mccoy is 150. So that's pretty darn old. People can live to be 120 today but they aren't exactly lucid or mobile. McCoy can still walk, talk, eat, etc. There's only one archer. :)

  • Meeehhhhh... The books aren't canon the way they are for Star Wars. ...Unfortunately. There's a lot of good stuff in there (and, apparently, Orci is fond of them to the point of integrating some of their ideas into the new films; a lot of "Best Destiny" and "Enterprise: the First Adventure" is in the 2009 film).

The bigger continuity issue is this: during the library computer sequence of "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II," Archer's ulimate fate is said to be death from natural causes in 2245.

  • Yeah I know. It's a pity because a lot of trek books are good. In my opinion archer lived too long. Trip, malcolm, travis, hoshi they all died long before archer did.

  • Of course, the screen was never meant to be seen that clearly, and we only know it said that because the original graphic was posted online, so it's a question if that's canon at all. ALSO, the timeline SKEWS (if you'll pardon the Doc Brown quotation) into this alternate tangent in 2233, which may very well have completely changed the circumstances of Arhcer's later life. Although I think we can all agree the "prized beagle" is not Porthos. Humas may live longer, but no dog will live to 110!

  • So nero affects archer's last 12 years of life big deal, it's not like archer will change that much. Maybe they have some kind of super dog food in the 22nd century. :) I mean come on in enterprise Porthos was like 14 years old.

  • i went into the movie thinking it would be crap but i couldnt have been more wrong! a truly fantastic film!

  • this movie is very geat...........very great

  • well probably not she was a science officer half way across the ship from any escape pod so its unlikely in the 10 tops of 15 seconds to get there even though that seen was scary and where austin healey died =]

  • best movie score since Rudy!

  • So I'm assuming you haven't seen any films since Rudy.

  • LOL

  • i seen movie does that green lady die over vulcan where the fleet is destroyed??

  • maybe....

she could also get to an escapebot...

    have sum fantasy man! =)

  • jj outdone it this time great movie

  • an absolutely amazing film..a MUST OWN on blu-ray or DVD.

ive grown up with star trek and hated how bland and boring it became the last 10 years, but JESUS CHRIST, i was not prepaired for what JJ Abrams was going to do.

this isnt just THE GREATEST STAR TREK MOVIE EVER, it might just be the best film of 2009.

a gripping non-stop action film that grabs you from the first scene and NEVER lets go.

    SEE THIS MOVIE .

If this is any indication of the new series of films count me in.

    amazing film

  • It has a sence of Halo in it! My God THIS MOVIE ROCKS THIS IS HOW THE STAR WARS PREQUELS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE!!!!!

  • im with you count me in:)

  • i saw it twice. first, in amc then in imax

  • I love this piece of music its sooo good!

  • Best star trek ever. i wasnt that much into it until i saw this one!! and what can i say i loved it! and not only chris pine was Fn HOT!!!! ahhh

  • best movie yet this year. LOVED IT!!! i heard rumors that the DVD comes out Septemberish. i really hope it comes sooner though.

  • the movie was completely amazing! the best one i've seen in a while....loved it! i totally want to see it again ;)

  • Would be cool if they Started a New Series with the Cast from the Movie that would be awsome.

  • Yeah I totally agree with you :D

  • Well there doing a trilogy of films with that cast so you'll see them on the enterprise again ut it would be hard to get hollywood actors to work on a tv show.

  • Well there they signed up for two more films :D

  • Yea but a New TV Series would draw in a New Crowd of Fans to the Series.

The Next Movie wont be until 2011 that i read on a Website.

  • The Greatest Star Trek movie ever!!!!!

  • it was genius... but that title remains safetley in the hands of... Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

  • Only someone in their teens or early twenties would rank this film over Wrath of Khan.

  • Wrath of Khan was hard to beat. This one came close though.

  • I agree with this, but not in a negative sense. Wrath of Khan is about growing old, while the new 'Star Trek' is reflective of more youthful passion. Kids are going to connect to it more than Wrath of Khan, while the older generation is, naturally, going to make fun of us (the youthful generation) for liking it more. I think both movies are fantastic, but I like this Trek more because it appeals more to me at my current point in life. Movies affect people at different points in their life.

  • Well said!

  • @KagamiismyLover i saw The Wrath of Khan in the theaters when i was 9 years old … and knew instantly it was a great film THEN! a great story is a great story no matter what age group is portrayed . JJ needs to take a few directing lessons from Nick Meyer

  • @KagamiismyLover I'm 45 and love this movie best of all. I can"t wait for more.

  • Khan was THE BEST VILLAIN EVER. For me, Eric Bana's villain was the only weak part of this film.

  • Khannn! Khannn! Khannn! LOL

  • In the movie, when Eric Banner is yelling "Spooooock! Spoooock!" it reminded me of that.

  • the new BSG not the old one

  • I saw the movie twice as well and i have to that the movie is flawless! Stargate is way to cheesy for my taste.Battlestar Galactica will always be my show.

  • Comment removed

  • Nero was a dick.

  • AssWhooper I agree with you im a Stargate fan, and i watched the odd enterprise episode but when i saw this movie i was like "HOLY FUCK" I want this on dvd NOW! lol

  • I've never been a fan of "Star trek", I always refused to watch the T.V. show, but I must say that the movie was brilliant, I may give the T.V. show a chance now that I've watched the movie!

  • Can't help but feel sorry for Nero at the end, all he wanted was his vengeance.

  • This Is One Of The Best Movies Made On This Planet. And It Has A Great Soundtrack To It

  • Cause you watched in theaters, wait till you watch it a second time, doesn't really have that much re watch value.

  • It depends on what type of person you are say you are like a person who can watch it over and over again like me

  • Then you suck !

  • Actually I've seen it twice now and it was as good the second time as the first.

  • I love this new theme of all things I started humming it when I left theaters. Oh and the movie's fun too.

  • haha ^^ me too xD laaaalalalalaaaaaaa

  • I know what you mean, I've been humming it ever since.

  • The movie was fantastic. I'm proud to be a Trekkie.

  • me too!

  • i really really loved this movie even more after hearing this sound track in the movie's official website. :)
