Crikey, you guys are all too highly strung. Rosker48, yes I do surf and have done since 1975 if that means anything to you. Isn't a bloke entitled to an opinion with you around or should everyone else's opinion be the same as yours?
what i reckon ? ... go back to school kid.. the microphone is on the surfer , while the video comes from a helicopter . stop thinking so much , you aint that smart
hey forrykook ,, hmmm watch it again mr. negative ... the video is shot from a heli ~ the micro ~ on the surfer .. some people really are that stupid ~ you obviously have never really surfed either ... prolly never even left your room
I've been wondering whether this is real or not and I don't think it is.
1) when the camera, (supposedly in a helicopter) pulls back, the sound of the jet ski also dissipates. You wouldn't hear the ski from a chopper in the first place.
2) Then it goes sort of quiet with atmospheric winds whistling...ahem, the camera is in a chopper - very noisey.
3) During the pull-back the wave face kind of blurs out of focus. Probably disguising some editing.
I would agree that there was obviously some sound editing. If you watch the billabong odyssey dvd you will see the waves leading up to this one as well as this featured wave. It may help convince you of the authenticity. Also There are cliffs surrounding Pe'ahi on Maui that could have supplied the same camera angles.
naw that's Mike Parson's a great surfer in the 80's but now makes his name by being a big wave surfer, this wuz a few years ago at Peahi aka Jaws in Maui at a big wave comp
naw man its just kinda far off shore it wouldnt have curled over if it was in the middle of the ocean...for a wave to be surfable there has to be something underwater to cause it to slow down like a sandbar or a reef
Checkout a movie called "riding giants". It is a surf documentary about big wave surfing. this is real stuff and I plan on doing this at some point in my life.
It's a FAKE, for crying out loud. Do you really think there are places in the world that have 100-foot waves?? Outside of a tsunami, waves like that do not exist. It's a very well-done piece of fiction.
nope its genuine- some surfers specialise in surfing huge waves like this. and there was 3 100ft waves in the atlantic near spain not so long ago that made the national news so im surprised you can say this!
I saw Elvis! well fuck me backwards, what a wave! I've never seen anything like it (tho' to be fair, I have lived on the south Cornish coast for 19 years)!!!
if any of you have ever surfed b4 and been in the barrel how it looks so cool well thats craxy considering how big it is my biggest tube was like a lil taller than me
its by a chopper, theres a little yellow chopper that films all this and the no chopper sounds i think is cause camera isnt hanging off the bottom and the chopper is quiet. certainly real.
it's a bit strange, looks like a fake. i wonder where the cam was. it couldn't have been beach-based, it has to be in a helicopter. but why can i hear the wave's sound, but not the chopper's?
the amazing thing is, he stacked massivly on his previous wave and was under for like a minute. To have the balls to go at it again, wow! Everyone should see the billagong oddesey. It's gold!!
that's a very possible wave height, they do get much bigger apparently you haven't heard of 'rogue waves'. that surfer is just lucky to get out before the wave break, wiping out then would've screwed him over big time.
This clip is from the movie "The Billabong Oddyssey." The wave in this sequence was riden by Ken Bradshaw (filmed from a helicoptor). Filmed over the course of 3 years, the movie explores the adventures of a team of surfers on the quest to surf the biggest wave on the planet. The video is very much real.
this is Mike Parsons at Cortez Bank off Califorinia 66ft Brad Gerlach on the ski won billabongs biggest wave of the year prize

nothing like a tsunami at all. tsunami is a completely different thing than an ocean wave. i would call that big Peahi, but not as big as it can get.
mrskemp 3 years ago
omg thats like a tsunami
curlgrls78 3 years ago
right it's not the big wave but the force behind the wave which makes the tsunami dangerous

I love tow in surfing. And no helicopters are used often under those circumstances. I have seen guys do that in Peahi, better known as Jaws.
Kiba998 5 years ago
If that were real, how the heck did you get that camera angle? I think a helicopter is out of the question.
