  • I'm 16 and I heard this song about a year ago... I'd say that based on the comments, perfect timing!

  • I love the harmonic voices that come in at like 1:07 or something. BTW, when was thing song made?

  • @1616161616fish: Advice is a form of nostalgia because the person giving advice would have obtained that from a time in the past. It helps them remember, and relive that time

  • inspirational words~

  • The first time i heard this song was in 1999 a few months before my mom passed away. when he says stay close to your parents you never know when they'll be gone .I had to pull over my car & I just cried. The advise hes giving ALL makes sense

  • A great message for all classes and all ages!

  • 1999 was the year I graduated from high school. This song played at our graduation....If you are young still yet, listen to every word this man says! He speaks the truth!!!!!

  • Some time this morning my video Class Of 99 Wear Sunscreen passed the ONE MILLION VIEWS mark. Here are some interesting stats 1 million views is 234 Million seconds of video or 3,9 Million minutes or 65 000 hours or 2708 days 7,42 years of continuous video. THANK YOU ALL...

  • Advice is a form of nostagia. How true is that statement??????

  • I love that when "chewing bubble gum" is said, you show spearmint chewing gum, which itself is not bubble gum.

  • 42 people don't wear sunscreen.

  • I love this song, I love this video, but what I love most about watching this here right now, is the fact, that everybody here just enjoys this track and tells something about his/her life.

It's really beautiful to see that everyone here, dear youtubers, is ready to share the moment when we all heard this for the first time or what we are thinking when we hear this beautiful piece of art...

I heard this for the first time 2 years ago and it's as fantastic as on the first day I heard it...

  • Every word is so true!

  • I usually love motivational videos but this is somehow pathetic.

  • Everytime.

  • class of cissing

  • Dance.

  • ya, this is still the best advice I have ever received first time i heard this song I was 12 or 13 years old, i was in a wal-mart distribution center with my dad waiting to get in the gate hehe

  • Do something that scares you every day, best advice.

  • @GUITARxCHALLENGE

I get up every morning, does that count?

  • @GUITARxCHALLENGE I'm afraid of becoming an alcoholic.

I guess that means it's time to open up another bottle.

  • It is an amazing video. Thank you !!!!

  • Two grads down one junior to go , last day of sophomore class & my kid gets the sunscreen speech handed out by teacher to all his history students .

Haven't heard in @ least ten years .

    30 yo then ....

  • When I heard this song for the first time, years ago, it resonated. Now, aged 41, if I have a difficult time with something, the words from this song pop in my head. Listen closely and believe me....these are words of wisdom.

  • An original and inspirational message of the truth's we all come to face in life-with advice that all should strive to heed. When ever I feel like inviting myself to a "pity party"; with thoughts of where did I go wrong; or why don't I feel happy anymore; & other "mistakes & miss-steps I've accumulated through my life's journey; I put on the "Baz" message & realize once again that it's not WHERE you are NOW that is important; but WHERE you are GOING-I choose to park my emotional baggage & smile

  • My gov teacher randomly played this after our AP exams, without even telling us what it was or that he was going to play it at all. We were just sitting & talking and when we heard the beginning, kids literally said aloud, "What the hell is this?" & it was funny at first because no one knew it was an actual song. But by the end, oh boy, not a mocking word was spoken, because we had realized how genuine & helpful this advice is. Excellent.

  • 75th wedding anniversary??!!! those are some old ass people!!

  • My dad first showed me this song a few years back, and every since then, I can't help but come back to this video every couple of months. Ive probably watched this video a few dozen times.

  • The message in every part of this song is an eye opener. I still cry listening to this. It's a powerful message that truly tugs at the heartstrings. It's beautiful.

  • this is brilliant.

  • DANCE.

  • why sunscreen?

  • @0shayla1

    because it's so beneficial

  • @0shayla1 Sunscreen protects your skin from Radiation, hes saying you don't have to actually listen to everything hes saying, but he does want you to trust him when he says to wear Sunscreen.

  • Is it just me who expected something something to LOL at? What I got wasn't what I expected, but I was all the more pleased with it.

  • ....I wear sunscreen everyday on my face and body. Great advice.

  • @mmmmmvodka. You know Firs I agreed with words about fat body, but if you want to be a strong person, you have to do it. first of all you will proove to yourself, that you are a strong person. about life I agree. you can't plan everything, but you at least should plan some important moments, to make a good life start position for your children.

  • Homem mala

  • But, I disagree about the things like "Don't plan your life" or "You are not as fat as you imagine". This is wrong. if you are a man, you have to plan your life, to make it good for your children, or if you are fat, go to gym and make your body beautiful. I agree with many things, but also many things are wrong. If you live with all this advices, you will live like a vegetable...

  • @armenianfuckazerbaij I think what he means is that if you plan your life, there are some things that don't go as planned. And you won't know what to do. Don't be rigid to the point where you're not flexible to change in your life. And for the fat part, I could be more directed towards people who suffer from eating disorders. There is so much meaning in his words, that you're only looking at it at a certain way. It reveals a lot about you.

  • guys this is the best video on YouTube you can find. after I watched it, right now, I understood that I shouldn't spand my time on youtube or things like this. my dad said once "No one, before he dies, thinks about spending a small time watching TV or Playinc computer." Just think about it. imagine yopurself as you will die in 2 min. What would you be sorry of?

  • I graduated in 99 and I heard this song. I have graduated again and I listen to this song and everything in this is true.

  • The lyrics are actually Kurt Vonnegut's speech

  • @jennybravo7651 It is not a Kurt Vonnegut speech. It's an essay titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997.

  • @Pottsylird ok

  • I heard this song today and was blown away. This was the first time I have ever heard it. To all of you in your absolute youth, trust me, this song screams the truth. I am 35 now and this is a very empowering song. Understand you have nothing to prove to anyone-you are already valuable. I will play this song for my three young kids as they grow as this song speaks volumes-if only you will listen. Trust me. And yes, be good to your knees!

  • this song is overrated.

Or at least the only people who have left comments are the ones who it actually effected. I find it hard to believe this could have such a dramatic effect on the majority of people

  • i had a good luck assembly for our exams and this was played. i almost cried. afterwards we were told that next time you hear this song you will relate it to this, and you will encouter it later in your live at some point

  • There are so much truth in this song! I just love it!

  • I heard this song on the radio today. I was so moved i looked up some of the lyrics I heard and found this song :) btw im 15

  • @lsberrios1 Im 23 too.., yeah anyone can lose weight - thats the minimum. Face, height, skin tone is harder to change. As for your comment, unfortunately the answer is another counterintuitive one. Good looking people are more likely to develop "better"personalities because of a confidence brought on by years of acceptance. Ugly ones? They have to develop a good personality in SPITE of their ugliness, its not like a blind guy getting better hearing.

  • not to be mean, hehe this song is supposed to bring joy to people but looking at these comments th all doubtfull and kinda filled with hatred and other stupidish things.

  • 39 people didn't wear sunscreen.

  • Dance...

  • @sumphoo yeah whatever 26 vs 25 whats the difference ur just talking BS... the point is that u only get uglier as you get older... and if youre ugly when youre young - the time when youre supposed to be so care free and having so much fun and potential - then essentially youve wasted youth youth becasue of a bad hand of cards. and no the "inside" doesnt count b4 anyone cliche says that - people react positvely to attractive people and negatively to ugly ones, its spans all culture and creed

  • @harpred You have certain truth in your words but those who are ugly learn how to live with it and when everyone is ugly due to aging the winners will be those who endured the ugly lifestyle who had to create their own inner strengths. Take it from a person who has being in both sides of the spectrum. in the end all that matters is what's inside my friend. Take it with a grain of salt if you'd like.

  • @lsberrios1 Both sides? So you were good looking when you were young and now you're old and ugly? Well, ugly people get even uglier when they're old, beautiful ones age more gracefully if they take care of themselves - unless they're 70, ok, but then it doesn't matter. Then the previously pretty people will have memories of having tons of friends, lots of sex with great looking people, great experiences because of easy acceptance.and the ugly ones? For the most part - loneliness, disenchantment.

  • @harpred Actually no, I am 23 so not old at all. I come from being a fat ass to now being "decent" looking. You get to work on your personality to get acceptance which most of the people who were born "beautiful" do not get to develop since everything was given to them. Being pretty opens the doors but having a brain is what keeps them coming back. Same thing happens with wealth.

  • @lsberrios1 oh, and most likely, good looking people would be "perceived"as having a good personality just like studies show that they are "perceived" as being smarter, more out going, and more trustworthy regardless of whether or not its actually true. Basic human psychology..

  • @harpred lets put it this way, we both have valid points and different views on the subject. Its a good thing

  • i dont get this "you'll look back at old photos and see how good you looked" message... if you're in your 20s, your competing and interacting with other young people in your peer group, not 50 year olds. If they are all better looking, more attractive than you, and dont want to be friends or have sex with you NOW, whats the idea? "if you think you're ugly now, wait till you're older"? sounds depressing to me, not uplifting...

  • @harpred CSAS No you dont get it. Its not about wanting to be with younger people or thinking that now your ugly and old. At least not for me or anyone I would associate with. I am 38 now, and I wont even consider dating a woman under 26. I dont care how hot. I would only date in the mid low 20's if it was love. Because honestly, if your trolling 20 yr olds for sex your missing the best lovers age group by about a decade. 10 yr olds, they know whats up. J/K 28-45, hmmmm yummy.

  • i think its class of 97 dude

  • @Afroninjastorm the first line of the song is "ladies and gentlemen of the class of 99" pretty sure its 99 not 97.

  • @PeteWentzPlease72 I'm pretty sure it was first recorded in late 1996, using the line '97 in it, but it didn't have any real public interest until a year or so later...so they remixed that one line adding '99 in it's place to make it more current at the time. Piece of irrelevant pop music trivia there. :)

  • Damn the first time i heard this i was 15. Now im a 27 year old man. oh how time flies.

  • Comment removed

  • Pretty Lame of you to NOT INCLUDE CREDIT TO THE CREATOR!! Film Director Baz Luhrmann.

  • Five-and-a-half minutes of pure honesty, compassion, nostalgia and beauty. This song outdoes the moral guidance of every single holy book in history - by a very long way - it's just wonderful.

  • Damn, this was a very beautifal song

  • oddest little diddy I've run across, but I've caught myself quoting it here an there in conversations... Very intelligent..

  • 'remember the complements you receive, forget the insults' love this so much.

  • I feel like going outside and run a fucking marathon, it's 2:30 am.....

    Life-changing...

  • First time when I listened to this song, I cried. I was eighteen years old. I am now 26 and I still cry. Such a beautiful song.

  • @jyj1012 I cried listening to it the first time, when I too was 18. I am still only 18, less then a year later. But this song has changed my life perspective to a very extensive point.

  • @jyj1012

    im 22 now

i dont want to get old

  • hihí_ÅñýõÑé_wÀnñÁ_chÁt_wIth_mË_í_fËÈl_sÔ_lÒÑElý_tôÐäy...

  • Beautiful....and sunscreen.

  • :) did this for my graduation love this song

  • the speaker at my high school ceremony quoted this entire thing, i liked it. i wanted to scream this to my idiotic class.

  • I ask seriously if anyone does find out how to forget the negative things said about them to please tell me. I really could have used it today.

  • @9fox09 read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and thank me later

  • @9fox09 I never pay attention to what negative things are said about me..it's their opinion and their opinion doesn't matter..you don't have to make anyone happy but yourself..if they dont like you or say anything negative, who cares..they dont care about you anyway, why worry or stress over something someone says about you..you know who you are and thats all that matters

  • @9fox09 if you know who you are then you know what they say isn't true.. NEVER listen to any negative comments...it is only words..it doesn't matter

  • @natedog152000 "If you know who you are then you know what they say isnt true.." There's the rub. Most think they know themselves yet cant understand all the conflict in their life. We are our own biggest obstacle, and the first part of knowing who you are is getting over yourself. Wish I could explain better, but it was handed to me when I was about 24 and it made no sense. At 34 I couldnt stop giggling over it. It took me till then to get over myself.

  • @sumphoo thats the thing though, I do know who I am and I do know what I need to do, I am 24 the age you were when you received your advice . I dont let people get to me. I know what I've done wrong in my life and what I've done right, and what to learn from my mistakes. A lot of people can't do that though.

  • heard this song back when it was released, i asked a question to my future self back then if this beautifull song was right.. yes it is...now enjoy life and of course this song

  • @48some Same here. I remember when it came out and now, well into my 30's, I can see that this song certainly seems to be right on the money!

  • i can just sit and listen to the background music... its soo soothing

  • cwrap

  • to some this song up in one word, epic :-)

  • Funeral Song

  • everything's true.. especially for beauty magazines.

  • i think this song should be played in every school in the world at least once to every class your or old its so real!

  • I heard this for the very first time in my psychology class and it brought tears to my eyes.I love it and I'm so glad I heard these inspirational words before it was too late.

  • This is one of the best songs I have ever heard

  • Save your money. Retire early. Get a dog. Be happy. And take Vitamin D if you use sunscreen.

  • I sat my 10 yr old on my knee today and played it to him, I fought back tears as the word sank in, more relevant with each passing year and each life mile travelled. I'm glad to be able to share a moment so aware that one day he is smart enough that he might do the same and will look back fondly on that moment we shared. In the mean time I'll enjoy listening to him play. Love you son.

  • This was a big hit on Ibiza when I was ther baock in 2002

  • @TelQuiero i<3 ibiza!

  • how would i add this to my ipod? please help.

  • @MegTidwell download free youtube to mp3 converter, then take the url of this page (website bar) then paste it to the converter... then plug ya ipod into your pc/laptop and add it :D

  • Yeah it's sad how today's teens don't respect their elders like some of us did. I remember when this came out the whole class of 99 went coo coo for it. Haha those people were my friends. Dorks I swear I was suppose to have graduated that year but I didn't since I graduated the year after.

  • Such a masterpiece, outstanding creativity, flawless skills. Words of wisdom...

  • the older you get
