Roller Coaster Stalls on Vertical Turn

I swear that happened to me and my friend once, it only stalled for a few sec though. Apparently we were not heavy enough to get on the ride(it was i while ago, i was young) but we went on anyway. I guess we learned our lesson. :L

@DarrellPeel it's not impossible. If the coaster cart is not full of people, the car can stall as it has been tested with people in, therefore being to light to make it round the corner.

thats dragon fury at cwoa i went there i crapped my self because there was only 3 of us so i went by myself and at the start when you go up quick for some reason we went up really slow and we go stuck up the top for 1 hour and 30 mins then they started it and the didnt tell us so we all hit are heads and my mates where at the front and 1 off them got knocked out by the force of the impact. LOL ;)

@Christina20132 People were riding on the Big One at Blackpool when the car was stopped at the very top of the ascent and despite their best efforts ,the staff could'nt get it to move.The passengers were evacuated by firemen-terrifying-as the ride is around 230 feet high,It happened again about a week later.The computer was programmed badly and engineers came from the USA to sort it out(they cocked it up to begin with)

@ABigGiantApe indeed, all those rides have several fail safe measures and several backups with that. there are always at least 2 "stop zones" between two trains, and in case it's not enough, they can use the last fail safe and have the train brake by himself wherever he is on the track (that why it's last thing to be used).

Coasters are very safe, it's much more dangerous to step outside your home and go buy some milk at the local mall if you ask me ;)

it's because no-one was on it, therefor there was no momentum behind the vertical turn, operators do this often to test it out, it's really basic physics, before the vertical turn there is a straight downhill degree push if you will, and the momentum should push the carriage right round, however in this case since there is not enough weight it - unluckily failed.

Your right, operators do test it, but these rides are designed to do the full circit with no people in them, thus their is now a weight restriction on them. This could just be a lack of oil on the wheels and / or track

The wheels are oiled every morning during ride prep. Oiling the track would be a very bad idea for this ride hence the reason we are forced to go to 3 people a car when it rains or if its frosty.

This is actually untrue. This can happen at anytime and tho the weight dose effect the ride its not the cause. Its a strange problem thats caused by the rotation of the car effecting which wheels grip the sections of the track at which time. Its more likely for this to happen with a loaded car however this stall was caused by nothing more that a bad bearing that ceased on the hill causing loss of momentum. Source of info: Im a member of staff in the spinball area.

Roller Coaster developers do not rely on the weight of the passengers at any point in the developement stage to make they're coasters complete circulation. This particular stalling could have been attributed to anything, wind speed, wind direction, moisture of the tracks, etc. But passenger weight is not a common or plausible factor.

i work on ghost rider at Knotts and while testing, the gold train will sometimes RTL because it cannot clear B Block in time parameters. so yah passenger weight does effect it. although you are right the manufactures' don't design the ride on passenger weight.

OMGosh!! This is so not fake. I visit Alton loads (and i kinda work there). U see how the mechanics are standing on a hydraulic platform when they are pushing the car off. Due to this ride stalling so often, they have built a ladder/stairs on to the top of this corner, so that a stalled car can easily be pushed off. I doubt that a car would ever stall with people in it though as there would be enough weight to safely get the car round the track.

Depending on wind conditions and The weight of the people inside. The amount of oil and lubrication on the wheels and axles. The rain ( if you look the sky is cloudy) might've had a part in it. I'm no expert but that's what I think.
