"How many can I kill and still have a bullet for me?" that line is so powerful in my opinion. and although the outcome was horrible, I would have done what Anita did. No one deserves that, they didn't even give her a chance to explain why she was there and just went full force at her. It was ridiculous. It doesnt do the Jets justice and I think if Riff was alice that wouldn't have happened

Character "Anita" (Rita Moreno) is harassed and nearly raped by New York street gang members "the Jets", she was reduced to tears, as it brought flashbacks of similar real life childhood experiences. When she broke down, the other actors nobly stopped and comforted her, helping her to get through the scene, pointing out that the audience was going to hate the gang members for what they were doing, as "Anita" was well meaning in what she was doing, and the sequence set up a critical plot element.

@Lp062607 That was my problem with this movie... the two main characters are so boring and their chemistry is terribly forced... hardly there... I think it's a good movie but this always stuck out... probably didn't help that Natalie Wood did not like the guy playing Tony at all and gave him a hard time during filming...

@edoboleyn in the broadway production it was "well that's the way we found it doc" the whole point of that bit in the scene is that the world they live in is lousy, for both the jets and the sharks. i'm not saying that I forgive the jets for doing what they did, and i've not forgotten what bernardo did to tony, but at the same time you either love them or you hate them depending on what scene it is.

the first time I saw this movie I thought it was ridiculously funny what with all the ballet-fighting and singing and the falling in love in 2 seconds, and then I saw the ending (6:18 - 9:55) and I cried sooooo heard ^^

especially 8:24 - 8:55 ; has to be one of the best scenes in film history
