It seemed like I reached the bottom. I could walk and stop forward movement by releasing "W" just like I was standing on a flat surface.

Erm, at the end your speed meter was still reporting that you were traveling 1,000,000,000 in/s, which I think would suggest that you had not reached the bottom.
