If there is a God perhaps, like in the movie "Oh God", God doesn't know how to make an up without a down, an inside without an outside, joy without pain. It seems to me that that is about the best explaination I have ever heard. Of course, there really is no God and road kill and infants with cancer is simply part of the natural world.
The believers affair is a unique and strange one, if God gives him something good he is grateful and that is good for him, if God tries him he is patient and that is good for him to. May Allah guide this man to Islam
@AbuAvital so what? Evil is a power of its own and God has no control over it? It seems your perception of God is misguided. Besides do you even know what "God" comes from? It comes from Gut which was a false european God. And why don't you say the All mightys name when he teaches us to say his name?
If we dont understand suffering, then it's pointless. It's only like kicking a dog that doesnt understand what it did to deserve being kicked. However, if we could understand WHY we got this suffering, what we DID do to deserve it, we could actually LEARN something from it specifically and grow from it. Yes, we can still grow from it but in a much more difficult way, most of the time directionless trying to grasp at any reason it might be happening but we dont know. Really ridiculous and cruel.
is there not a contradiction here? the first 2 minutes of this video explain why there is suffering in this world, and the last 17 seconds say that we cannot understand suffering. this is something that's always driven me nuts when i hear things like this. what am i missing?
@naavaleh He is saying that he doesn't understand why there is suffering in the world, but he believes that God does. He doesn't explain why there is suffering in the world.
@hpyrkh3 I think most people are misunderstanding what he is saying. He is saying that when God puts us under trials there is a wisdom behind it, even behind the pain and we not wanting the pain. Even if we, the slaves of God don't know the reason behind the pain, ther eis a wisdom behind it but patience is key.
...and that ultimately the good and the bad of this world is a token of God's mercy because the believer receives for both much more in return if he can respond to it by moving closer to God, like the child who clings onto mum :)
I'm a Muslim and I just wanted to say we believe in pretty much the same thing there. Sources do offer a few possible reasons for suffering (atonement, to bring one to God, or raise one before Him, to give man the opportunity to achieve something which he might not have were it not for suffering, etc.)...
Dr. Abraham Twersky - Thank you for posting this video. I have read a few of the books written by you and like all of them a lot. I hope more of your videos can be posted on youtube to spread the wisdom.
