Expandable ASP batons are authorized and the most common in the NYPD.

@slingninja82 you get whatever the department issues you, getting your own later on will just cost you the liability of NOT using department issued equipment... pretty sure NYPD no longer issues the straight batons anymore but just the expandable ASP, i could be wrong but i think the straight batons are now just sitting in the squad "usually the trunk now"
