A commercial by automobile company Nissan featuring dolls similar to Barbie and Ken was the subject of another lawsuit in 1997. A female doll is lured into a car by a doll resembling GI Joe to the dismay of a Ken-like doll, accompanied by Van Halen's version of the song You Really Got Me. Mattel claimed that the commercial had done "irreparable damage" to its products, but lost the copyright infringement lawsuit.

I remember it as a very "racy" commercial. It's one of my favorites of the last 25 years. Several years BEFORE Toy Story, don't forget. Realized my CD collection needed a KINKS infusion plus picked up a GIJoe for my then 6 y/o daughter's Barbie(s)very soon after viewing this :)never saw the parody on SNL though

Actually, it's practically a note-for-note copy of the original.

The first time i heard it, i thought the Kinks had cut a new version ... but i couldn't figure out what was wrong with Ray's voice.

You sir are an idiot. "Note for note", are you kidding? The riffs are played completely differently, there are blazing EVH guitar solos and the guitar tone is... one of the most distinctive and unique ever. Not to mention that the bass and drums are quite different. But apart from that the rest is similar, which is to be expected of a COVER SONG. But seriously, nobody could possibly have mistaken the Van Halen version of this for a new cut from the kinks????
