As bad as these conditions are (and I agree they ARE bad), you would be surprised to see how many workers would lie to protect these lousy jobs. When investigators locate these sweatshops and authorities close them, it is considered a victory in the fight against sweatshops. But the workers are unemployed and not necessarily happy with the result. It's not as straightforward as "Find 'em and close 'em".
@djcavanaugh yeah yeah - we need more aweat shops ?- vietnamese and indonesia workers in malaysia often have thier passports taken so they cant leave and are beaten and even killed
by all over the world its everywhere even Australia so the countries that u mentioned plus many other hidden in other places where u think there aren't. thats the point of a sweatshop 'cause when a company gets discovered then published.. it starts gettin fkd!
The word "slavery" gets thrown around pretty freely when people discuss sweatshops and other ill effects of Globalization. In actuallity ALL people who work for wage are "wage slaves" it's just the amount paid varies by Country and Region. NO employer pays more than they have to!
(message continued)- They just pay enough so that the employee shows up and does the assigned job. If you are an American they might have to pay you $15 per hour so that you'll show up and do the job. In Indonesia they might have to pay you 15 cents per hour so that you'll show up and do the job. It's all relative.
Close the sweatshops, and these people will be worse off by definition. Why do poor individuals choose to work in sweatshops? The alternatives are much worse. If you REALLY want to help the poor, give them better alternatives and they will CHOOSE them. Taking away the choices of the choices of the poor CANNOT help them.
(message continued)- If Employers don't pay you "enough" you WON'T show up and do the job and they'll have to pay you more. Wage Slaves are not really Slaves. They have the choice of going to work every day or telling their employer to "Take This Job and Shove It" as the old country-western song goes...
(message continued)- Please stop using the word "Slave" when you are talking about hourly workers. It actually confuses the issue and the true problem of poverty. I think it is demeaning to TRUE "Slaves"...
They deserve to get paid higher wages, and have better working condtions, such as decent hours, and days off, also nice lunch breaks, and so on, plus the little kids shouldnt have to work, they should be in nice schools and have childhoods
