  • I learned so MUCH in so little time! Very good video! My 2003 Grand Am turns but wont start. It just stalled out while driving. I listened for the hum in the gas tank when starting it, and it seems that the fuel pump is not operating. I am going to check the fuse next...then if that isnt the issue, hope that I get an HONEST mechanic who is also thorough..Thanks for your post. It was interesting!

  • @tnfdmr483 You're welcome! It is common to have the pump fail on those too. Good luck!

  • General Motors cheaped out on everything in these car years on almost every vehicle they made. Stupid designs, cheap designs, common flaws on all body vehicles that never gets recalled. This problem is just as a much of a problem on the W-body Grand Pix/Impala/Bonneville as it is on this Grand Am.

  • seems like grand am's have a regulator problem.... i just found mine leaking today around the same damn seal.

  • I had the same problem on my grand am... Had a strong fuel smell and figured out that the regulated was leaking... Got the same code 172.... I checked the Mass Air flow sensor and it was fine had to change the Regulator

  • You should get a cheep scantool so you can see things like fuel trim.... you could then watch how the fuel trims react to a new regulator.... not to mention that sience the regulator is leaking raw gas into the intake causing it to start flooded so you could also see that on the scantool. really useful stuff.... I got mine from scantool dot net but eBay sells a bunch also

  • @frosty9595 I've got a OTC Genysis SPX

  • HUH??? This video did NOT show me how to fix the fuel pressure regulator. Nice troubleshooting, but HOW do you replace the regualtor???????? THAT"S what the video should show how to do it!!!!

  • @willfire67 See that little torx screw at 0;51? (bottom left gold colored) You remove that, and the line into the bottom of the regulator. Super easy. If you have doubts about being able to do that please take it to a professional. Sorry if you felt mislead about the title. Would you like your money back? Wait a minute.... you didn't pay a damn thing and your STILL complaining..... bless your heart.

  • thank you !

  • @Mr10inchnail You're welcome.

  • quad 4........ it seems to just not start sometimes but with some ether it will crank over it has had this problem for a long time can you help ? pontiacs are garbage

  • @Mr10inchnail That's a fuel delivery problem. Sometimes the fuel pump in the tank will leak fuel back down into the tank. This results in long crank times to re purge air out of the system. I should start after several seconds of cranking if this is the case though.

  • @willubhave so what brand of fuel pressure regulator do you recommend buying? I'm havin the same problem. Already replaced it once with a part from Napa.

  • @loverlymiss One from the dealership solved this car. I had a bad one from the dealer, napa, and the second dealer one worked and is still working.

  • hey bro i have a question, i have a 96 grand am 2.4L with a p0172 code and it recently had a tune-up, but the code continues to stay there, and i also notice that the car jerks when i slowly accelerate like it wants to cut off at times ....so i took it to a certified mechanic to get the mass airflow sensor cleaned with the throttle body and he said it didn't hav a MAF sensor...lol so idk what could be the problem....any suggestions on where to start?

  • my 94 dodge colt just cranks the first 5 times I turn the key. When it does eventually start it will hesitate/bog down when I hit the gas. while going down the road it actually loses speed and then it seems to "catch" an accelerates just fine. Sometimes letting off the gas seems to help it accelerate. Plugs, wires, cap, button and both o2 sensors have been replaced. Gas mileage has went from about 250 miles/tank to 150. Check engine light is not on. I dont smell gas, should i replace regulator

  • @holidayhouse03 Does it need new plugs? Also check your air filter. Get a fuel pressure test. Injectors could also be fouled/blocked.

  • @briansmobile1 plugs were changed 6000 miles ago, air filter, pcv valve have been changed 500 miles ago, throttle body has been cleaned out, tried to change the fuel filter but the bolt wouldn't budge and the fuel line started to bend so I stopped...i'll take it in and get that pressure test. Thanks for your quick reply...also your galant heater shut valve video was very helpful...thanks again

  • @holidayhouse03 Sounds good. You're welcome

  • its a grand am.. not a grand prix..

  • @spirit1gamer GRANDAMNIT!

  • that engine looks the same as the one on my 99 buick century

  • i have the same regulator i am on my 4th one in a week going to stepen up to a more expensive one next

  • @bluetickrunner That speaks wisdom to me.

  • @briansmobile1 Like you I like buying American. Could there be another problem causing these regulators to fail prematurely? After 3 replacements it kinda makes you think whats causing the failure?

  • @midlantic1 It's been several months now and it was just piss poor manufacturing. The one I put in it is still doing great.

  • Hmm interesting that maybe whats going bad on my 02 grand am gt getting the raw fuel smell also but the computer hasn't made the check engine light come on ....yet

  • @99GPSE Could be. Baby powder it up like a white Christmas and then have your buddy turn the key on to see if it gets moisture. Some fail to leak outside. Some fail to leak into the vacuum line. Good luck!

  • @willubhave Well slap my mouth Megan! You know your stuff! Valid points that I've encountered myself.

  • what was the p0300 code

  • @MauriMMalpica Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire

  • so what was the p0300 i have the same code on my car

  • damn that sucks man... good video anyhow

  • good luck on this one amigo i hope everything work out good amigo

  • @1elAguila It did.- turns out it was P0172 because it was getting unmetered fuel through the top of the fuel pressure regulator.
