I see, so suddenly how many musicians are on Kickstarter asking for money? I see, how many musicians now have donation sites or donation buttons? I see. The real truth, musicians are not better off. Not one indie band has taken me up on the challenge to show me their account records for the past 5 years. Why, because most don't keep records, most are losing money. No we have fans at concerts complaining that the tee shirts cost to much. Should we give those away too?
@MusiciansTime errrrr, yes. be prepared to give everything away - NO-ONE will ask you for everything for free - but when you give something - you create more of a relationship. I tell people its not a gift - its an exploding guilt bomb. unless your music is crap, your live show sucks and you dont have enough juice for your fog machine. So YES, give a shirt away and someone will by another short or an album or just REMEMBER you fornext time. it is the long term relationship that is important.
I saw atkins in springfield, illinois at a tiny little A.A. sort of house.
He was interesting at first until he started with the plaster caster stories and I spaced off.
But I was fascinated by how hard he toured, how cheap he sold his cd's, Incredible artwork, shirts he signed my pil tape.
He was really accessible, he was exhausted it seemed, kept on trouping with his one assistant who turned my on to Lo Fibre by justin k. broadrick.
Martin Atkin works harder than anyone, producing always.
