This is a good tutorial but I would have used clipping masks instead of layer masks, much simpler, same effect really AND easier to arrange in my opinion.

I Just found out an easyer way to do what he just did. First do the first few steps he did, this includes making those 3 layers...the orignal, the darker behind original image and the out of porportion image..once you have those, all you do is get your eraser and pick a brush for it.. i used the splash effects he used. Now all you want to do is erase off of every layer from the dark to orig to out of porportion..and wallah :D i just did it this with a walking soldier...and he is now fading away.

And I've been using photoshop for 8-9 years and all I did was look at the image and I already knew how to do it. =)

But I watched it anyway, and you should be able to easily identify how to do it if you just open your eyes.

1) Do a cut-out

2) Duplicate it (stretch it a bit)

3) Make a mask and just paint stuff using grungy brushes

...blah blah blah. I don't think it's too hard to figure out based on this tutorial.
