Thank you psssyche! Films like this are like important to us. They bring forward memories lost 40 years ago. When your 6 and watching this made for TV horror they stick with you...and we seek them out years later. I always remember "the eyes" but seeing the ending, it all came back to me. Seems many others were just as affected by this film we never thought we would see again.
i saw this as a child when i lived in new zealand . just watched it on u tube its brilliant. still freaked me out even now and im 46 . they dont make em like they used to . the best ones for me are 70s and 80s horrors , cant wait to watch more . bring it on! thanks for putting these on u tube.
You know, I've said it before and I'll say it again. PUT THIS OUT ON DVD. The demand for it is sooooooo obvious. It will sell thousands of copies. At least!
I agree with you all!....I remember this movie as a kid....scared the crap out of me!.....and I read some reviews that weren't so kind....said that the beginning was good, and then end was good, all in between was just stupid.....not so!....it still gives the creeps, AND!.....it just shows the talent of Steven Spielberg!. Thank you for sharing, I have been looking for this movie for years!
Thank you so much for sharing this, one of the few Spielberg movies I hadn't seen. Genuinely disturbing - I've still got goosebumps even while typing this. You can really see elements of his style already established even back then; slow zooms/push-ins towards faces, an affinity with children, extraordinary things happening to ordinary people, and so on. Really needs a DVD release, doesn't it?
@UgyvanPlancsiznakEgy My guess is that since a baby's cry was heard every time that jar came up, that it was a jar that had like a dead fetus in it in some sort of juice....as if someone had been doing experiments and put it in a jar kind of thing.
Thanks for the post! This movie is much better than any made for TV movie has a right to be thanks to Spielberg's direction and Sandy Dennis performance.
This movie haunted my entire childhood after seeing it just shy of my sixth birthday. Over the years I've made many queries in the hope of seeing it again. Thanks so much for posting this. It's a rare thing to be able to exorcise a childhood bugaboo.
I have been trying to explain to my wife about a movie with Johnnie Whittiker and a jar of pulsating gel that i saw when i was a kid. She thought i was crazy. This movie is still as creepy today as it was when i was 7 .Thanx for sharing! P.S. now if only i could find CROWHAVEN FARM.
I always liked Sandy Dennis. I was interested in seeing this -- one of Steven Spielberg's first movies and one of the classic "ABC Movies of the Week". Darrin McGavin always makes an impression.
@AstralPixie Probably you think I'm nuts responding to a year old posting but I just now came across it. Back when the work week was long and tiring, baby sitters expensive and alternatives like cable movie channels or even VCRs non existant, the Movie of the Week was a nice thing to settle down with of an evening. Thanks for reminding me.
I gave 5 stars to all parts, I hope it records that. That was quite enjoyable, quite decent for a US tv film of the early 70's. Nice style from Spielberg. Been waiting decades to see this, thank you very much!
And a good quality version too! Most kind of you!

Such an influential movie! The Amityville Horror, The Omen, even The Exorcist a year later, all borrowed ideas from this gem of a film.

Died way too young, at the age of 54 from Ovarian Cancer.

The horrors of home canning.
So the lesson, folks, is never move out to the country. It's evil and will corrupt your children.

The sounds of a helpless baby crying in a way that sounds like he or she is frightend or being hurt, is horrific to me.
I remember that little statue of the devil traumatizing me when I saw this as a kid. Thank you
SO MUCH for taking the time to share it!!!

@ValleyMermaid What statue? You mean the one that was seen during the end credits? Yeah, that is traumatizing, and quite freaky as well.

@Matto2t Yes, that statue! Creepy, creepy, creepy!
