  • Wow. Wish I could do even one! Maybe someday soon.

  • Well .. maybe no 25 in a row but i'm impressed anyway. Darn you are strong!

And you did not look like 40 at all (but that's a minor detail ofcource :)

  • HOLY SHIZZZ!!! I don't care who you are, that was F***king AMAZING!...I max out at 10....I live in a bad neighborhood, could you walk me to my car?

  • @rmaharaj69 10 pullups is enough to keep you safe. You'll be fine. Of course, if you're not happy with that number step up the training.

  • Please do a flexing video!

  • @Antony777777 Sorry, but that's not really my thing.

  • @lauratbird

I understand but it will be quite imoressive...

  • 25 - OMG!

  • @petrilah Yep. You better get healthy and get back after it or I'm going to pass you by.

  • @lauratbird hard battle!

  • Unlike in your previous videos you are this time not doing 100% full range of motion (very close but not full ROM as you usually do). Anyways 25 is just a number, like 20, 10, 18, 27,5 or 42,2345, just a number without a particular meaning. Your pullups performance is totally amazing anyways, a couple of reps more or less doesn't change anything. Don't get crazy about numbers, you can end up cheating in the form like many people do

  • @carlotapuig That’s some tough love. I read somewhere that if you weren’t cheating you weren’t trying. You’d be disappointed, but I seriously considered trying to kip the last two. But alas, I still have a soul, and I couldn’t do it. Numbers, deadlines, and the games I play with them are just tools to keep me motivated. I wish I were intrinsically motivated, but I’m not. I need the extrinsic measure. Thanks for the feedback and for watching.

  • @lauratbird it's great to set goals, but better set them according to the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-bound). I wonder if your goal was attainable/realistic, how many women can do 25 full ROM pullups? How many men? How many women aged 40? Seriously, I think a good goal for you would be 18 full ROM reps (with good form), max. 20, in a time frame of x-months. I think it is extremely hard for any woman but you could manage that (with your usual perfect form)

  • @carlotapuig Do you know what the Pygmalion effect is? The performance you get from people (including yourself) is no more or less than what you expect. You gravely underestimate the physical capability of the human body—whether that body be male or female, old or young. Pointing to what many or most people can or cannot do is not a persuasive argument. Many or most people don’t try.

  • @carlotapuig I started strength training in March of 2009. At that time I could do a single pull up. I am just a beginner. My achievements represent those of a beginner. I absolutely bit off more than I can chew by setting a goal of 25 pullups when I could only do one. And it didn’t take me too long to figure that out. You know what I did…I kept chewing. I’ll get the rest of them down eventually.

  • @lauratbird Wow, if u started in 2009 u've done great! You've done an amazing job but are sort of disappointed, why? Because the goal was wrong, not you. U need some criteria to set goals, it's wrong to believe u would achieve any number just by trying hard, at some point there's a limit for everybody. Challenging goals are a great help for training, achieving them is amazing, but the goals should fulfill some criteria, one of them is "achievable". You did amazing, don't focus on the negative

  • @carlotapuig You interest me. First you offer me explanations as to why I failed, citing my age and gender. Those are my strengths. I do not choose to view what I can not change about myself as a disability. That's not a good way to be in the world. Second, re goal setting, I'm a shoot for the moon kind of girl. I realize that strategy doesn't work for everyone. Lastly, I'm disappointed because to feel otherwise would mean that I gave myself permission to fail. And I never did that.

  • @lauratbird You didn't fail, you did absolutely great!!! Amazing performance. A pitty that you were disappointed when you did great. But that can happen when you shoot for the moon:)

  • Great rep out Laura...looked real strong on those. Way to push yourself through those last few reps. 23 continuous reps is fantastic...and 25 is there very soon....oh...and nice pants...ha, ha...better than those shorts.

Keep at it girl. 25 reps will be awesome...even more so at 40!

  • @BRETZERR You're a total glass half full kinda guy. I like that about you. It's a nice quality. I agree that my ass looks way better in this video. I should burn those shorts. Thanks for watching.

  • @lauratbird

    Burn baby...burn...ha, ha...

Life's too short to worry about the negative Laura. Keep moving forward. Cheers.

  • P.S. What day is your birthday? Is there time to recover for another attempt? heh. Will you still shoot for the 25 even if you miss your birthday? And either way, what wll you focus on afterward - more gymnastics skills?

  • @nasaguy B-day is Friday. I'm not going to make another attempt before then. I'll shoot for 25 again, for sure, but not right away. I need to take a step back. I have some ideas of what I want to work on next, but I'm still not sure.

  • Hi Laura! "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars." Sounds cheesy, but you can take pride in what you've done. How many guys, much less girls, can say they can do 23 pullups with absolutely perfect form? Could YOU have ever done 23, if you hadn't shot for 25? I know what it's like to want to regain the ability of your youth. But u are awesome, no matter what! I am in awe of your determination and your ambitious goal-setting.

    U married? Please say no. :) :)

  • @nasaguy Thanks for the nice comments. And yes, I’m married, and happily, with two kids, a dog, a cat, a house, and a job. I’m a lucky woman.
