I would do the same if I was the umpire. Actually do it a little different. If no one wanted to voluntarily speak up and let me eject them for it, I would eject the whole section and get on with the game. And if they refuse to leave, call the cops, cuz they r then legally trespassing cuz they are not allowed to be there. Never had to actually call the cops before on a coach or fan 4 refusing to leave but I've came close. actually got phone out n dialing and then they say they'll leave.
you guys are mad gay laughing like a jackass. why would u even go if you're just going to be a redneck cock sucking yokel uneducated inbred american fuck ups.
@ckazazian Not really Dick. It's usually the good player that just wasn't good enough to make it professional, and still wants to be part of the game. It takes balls to be an umpire and subject yourself to scrutiny. As a former D3 player and 17 yr umpire I will say umpiring is way more involved. Umpires opponent is perfection, as a player I never played against that. I can only guess you haven't tried to wear the other shoe...Then come talk to me when u do, I bet ur opinion changes then
Umpires have the right to suspend play and to put the suspended game before a league commisioner, and then they make the decision. Umpires DO NOT have authority to forfiet a game. That is SPECIFICALLY in the rulebook. NCAA umpire for 20 years here. I have stopped a few gamesm in my day, but never able to forfeit.
y does it even matter? stupid ump- he cant take shit, damn, every time i ump i have ppl screamin at me for every call- if u gonna b an ump u gotta have a tough shell
To clear some things up. This is at Mt. Olive College during the MOC vs Barton 3 game series. the Barton fans were yelling racial remarks at the second baseman. The game resumed after the dumbass fans were removed from the fence. MOC won.
you, sir, are a moron. nothing racial was ever said to the second baseman, in fact, nothing was said to the second baseman. everything that was said was directed at the 1st baseman and shortstop.
"i threw him out. and yes, you can throw out fans. common misconception. same rule applies to them though, if they dont leave, you can forfeit the game."
Just another myth being perpetuated.
You can't forfeit the game. Umpires in LL have zero authority to forfeit a game. This umpire did the correct thing. You stop the game until the offending fan leaves. If the fan doesn't leave, you SUSPEND the game until he/she is gone. Forfeiture is the last resort, and an umpire can't do it.
I was at this game!! What happened was the shortstop purposely threw the ball over the first basemans head between innings trying to hit the opposing fans. One of the fans then picked up the ball and chunked it over the fence into the woods. The game wasn't called, the fan just left. I personally think that the shortstop was more at fault than the fan but obviously the umpire felt differently.
it is a nono, i agree. but, what they should have done, is forfeit the game. once a player or coach is ejected, they need to leave the premises, not just the field. the ump can give the player anywhere from 0 seconds, to 30 minutes, or however long to leave, but, if he doesnt, its a delay of game, that team forfeits the game.
Why was an umpire addressing fans, instead of game management? Keep your comments on the field, and let the game management handle the yahoos on the other side of the fence. You just blow your credibility when you let the idiots who are there to harass you actually get to you.
I agree on most of the comments here, but just as someone who umpires mostly high-age little league (8th season this year) for the fun of it, I'll admit I've tossed spectators and parents at these games. 90% of the time, it's because there's someone at home (plate) or on the base line (bases) constantly heckling, to the point where a player asks if we can do something. I'm more concerned when I do toss someone though, because they usually just laugh, thinking I can't do anything to them :)
I learned the hard way my first year umpiring(though I scared a lot of folks)that it's better to completely ignore the fans. Once you realize how ignorant on rules interpretations they are, it becomes a lot easier. Aside from a personal threat, let them run their mouths. I'm always in the parking lot after the game, and I've yet to be attacked.
Wow Vanparty what pro-ball do you do. Cause I just got done with my first year of pro ball at age 22 Did both AA and AAA. I did high school ball before that and you know that you leave the fans alone. Let them do what they want you never throw anyone for what a fan did.
mediaproductions33: If you noticed my 2nd post, you'll see that I realized my mistake in starting at one end of the bench etc. Umpiring is an ongoing learning experience. Yes, you are correct, in saying "leave the fans alone". That has been my practice through the years. Have I handled every situation in the best possible way....no, and I'm quite certain that if you're honest w/ yourself, neither have you. Where I will disagree w/ you is where you say..."Let them do what they want". Take care.
I amy not throw someone for what a fan did but I certainly have suspended a game for the home team management refusing to take care of fans that were a problem. I have done that 2x in 17 years and not once did league management complain about it. But I also NEVER talk to fans. If I have a problem, I ask the home team's coach to get game management to handle it. And please, quit bragging about pro ball!
i addressed the fans one time, cause he was sitting behind me while i was at the plate, and called me a blind son of a bitch loud enough that the 12 year old batter and cathcer heard me, so, i threw him out. and yes, you can throw out fans. common misconception. same rule applies to them though, if they dont leave, you can forfeit the game.
I agree, they shouldn't be allowed behind the backstop anyway. I would throw a fan out for offensive language too. There is no excuse for that behavior whatsoever. I would have also done it because no child, especially a 12 year old, should be put in that situation where they would have to hear that.
I have been an umpire for 17 years, all the way through the college level. So you did your first year of ball at the AA level? Did you skip A ball? Go watch the tribute video to Wendelstedt. They even say it takes about 10 years to go pro. That you have to start in "pre-A" then A, then move to AA, then move to AAA, then do the Arizona league, then you go to the MLB. I find it hard to believe you went from the low rung to AAA in 4 years.
I umpire college, semi-pro, and high school baseball. It's nice to have an outlet like youtube to vent some frustrations. There have been many times over the years where I have had to ask players or fans "who made the coment"? Every time, the coward did not show his face. I then just start at one end of the bench and toss someone. We have no time for nonesense. Wanna play ball? Fine. Wanna act like idiots.......You're Gone!
dude you have to drop that habbit u cant toss a random person you either knew who does it or you dont. what u do is say to the manager i hear one more word from your crowd or bench i will throw you out that being the manager is tossed.
I agree with "umpire1991v2" to the point that you can't just throw people out of the game from a comment (spectators), especially if you don't know who did it. Ejecting the coach because of a fans comment should also be the very very very last resort. As for the umpire in the video, there is more than one ball provided during the game...move on, especially if you don't know who did it. I'm curious to know if that game was actually called at that point...I surely hope not.
But you are an arrogant prick. That has to be taken into account as well. I am good enough to do every level of baseball you do, I just haven't had the opportunity. By the way you screwed up in actually caring what the fans say. Typical internet umpire.
Recently there was an incident in the NCAA where parents sued the NCAA because the umpire wrote, "I didn't know who said it so I threw out xxx." I guess the parents argument is the official deprived the player an opportunity to participate..damaged his reputation...who knows? I suggest saying, "I believe it was # (insert # here) who said "(insert quote here)" and ejected him.
Typical former wanna-be MLB player's dad in the stands.
