when i try and make a cane and i cut it it the middle just smudges

so how do you make it into a circle and cut it without the face mixing into the green

@DanaDottie your clay is either too soft or you need a sharper blade to cut it with. straight razors work well for me. maybe after you have made your cane, you could wait until the heat from your hands has left the cane until you cut it,
