Greed, ironically, killed the USSR. Too many bureaucrats hungry for power. So many people suffered and died in what was supposed to be a new beacon of hope for the world. A damn shameful waste. Communism could've been so wonderful, its become such a disappointment.

Quite true. I also feel a shift in attitude is necessary. The overwhelming sentiment I see in modern Socialism and its supporters is "don't worry about it, just sit back and we'll take care of your needs". Socialism and Democracy require self discipline and involvement on the part of all for it to work. It is a society that requires personal responsibility, a trait I am not seeing encouraged anywhere these days.

@Zukhov1945 When governments cannot or refuse to funtion they are eventually forced into doing so.Study some American revolution politics.Same type of game.At the end people lament the good in that system many times it becomes the focus of the new system to carry on those values many times better than before.I don't miss alway's having to think about missiles flying overhead..Our government presently rents military helicopters from Russia.The army is quite happy with them :D

When I see the pictures of the Olympics, I remember when the USSR used to be a "road roller" in terms of medals won at various Olympic disciplines. Nobody ever equaled USSR.
