@jeroenhardcore Well, if going by the RE2 explanation, Birkin should more or less have lost his humanity by this point, leaving only the explanation that he wants to be around her to impregnate her again (or first time. It has been a while and I don't remember if by this point Birkin already put his embryo in her already). It's a G-Virus thing.

@jeroenhardcore Well, G-Type William here just wants to impregnate people. But blood relatives react differently to embryos than others. No one really knows what exactly will happen in this case beyond a few files, but he probably realizes Sherry is not just any random person (although, going by what was said in RE2, by the time this game occurs Williams humanity is gone and won't probably see her as his daughter).

@jeroenhardcore Also, if I am not mistaken, in Degeneration Leon mentions this attribute among G-Types in Degeneration. I believe he mentioned that as a G-Type, Curtis sees his sister as nothing more than someone to implant an embryo into. But I may be remembering it wrong.

@jeroenhardcore Basically G-Type Mutants are overcome with the need to procreate, rather than feed from human flesh. William (and it is assumed other G Mutants) produce parasites that carry the G-Virus, which implant the hosts infecting them with the G-Virus. However this assimilation only works if the parasite's host body has a DNA Match to the G-Mutant (Sherry is William's daughter), otherwise it will reject the host and the parasite will mutate. It is unknown what a DNA Match would produce.

@jeroenhardcore He can implant it in anyone. It's just that the embryo development is different if the victim is a blood relative. I am not sure what changes/explanations are done to what happens exactly between RE2 and Darkside, so I cannot comment much on that.

In any case I heard an old theory as to another reason why he never tried to put an embryo into Leon or Claire... both have a tendency to shoot him. In RE2, the possible victims were Brian Irons, Ben, and Sherry. All of them were relatively defenseless compared to Leon and Claire, and were stuck in one area for a long period of time.

Not to say that is official, but it is a nice theory too.
