The reason Azerbaijan is called "Land of Fire" is because of its history. In the ancient times, Azerbaijan's dominant religion was Zoroastranianism in 4th century BC. Later the Arabs islamized Azerbaijan in 700 AD, thats how we became Muslims.

I have to admit i had never heard of Azerbaijan until 2 years ago. I was always pretty good in geography in school but i didnt know about Azeribaijan. I knew about Armenia cuz i live here in So.Calif and they're is so many of them ive met so many Armenians who dont even know where Azeribaijan is all they know is Turkey and Russia. Azerbaijan name comes from the Atropatene name. Atropatene-Adurbadagan-Azarbayjan- and modern Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani name was always pronounced differently in many different languages.
