McKeesport is a hellhole among hellholes.Do not move to or invest in said city. The police are cowardly (obviously) and corrupt. In fact they're useless.
@MrOrlandoBeach Wow, and I had my eye on that prize piece of property on Jenny Lind Street. (I am being sarcastic). If they burned all of PukePort down, it might do $10.00 worth of damage.
well lazy C I've been watching the papers and the tv things are upside down here in minnesota-duhhh. we lost the ford ranger plant the vikings football team wants a new dome home, oh and bloomingdales is closing its doors at the mall of america, twinkiee maker hostess bankruptct part II, well Mckeesport was mentioned by a kodak sales rep reflecting on better days gone by and the way he explained it was dead on spot to some of your youtube rants.
I was born in McKeesport, raised in Greenock. I noticed the decline when the mills went out.. sad truly sad.. haven't been bak there since early 80s...
@MissEVitale In the early 80's, it was way better than it is now. I have a video on YouTube about McKeesport from October 2008. The video shows the decay of the city. It ticked the mayor, (Brewster), off so bad, about how I was "showing" his city to the world. I guess the truth hurts. (Plus, he was planning on running for state senate... how good would it look if your claim to fame was a decaying city)? He made it to state senate. Ya gotta love politicians.
How very sad. My grandmother was born and raised in McK'spt. and as a kid she told me how fond she was of her hometown and I longed to go there until I read the responses from folks who know. If my grandma was still alive I am sure this would break her heart. Thank you for some very insightful video on McKeesport.
@MsHuckleberryMary After I did my video that showed the Port's current state of affairs, (that video was not too nice, to say the least, and the mayor of the port hated it), I thought I should do a nice-nice video from the port's better times. The video that I did that shows the port's current condition is called McKeesport, October 2008. Iti's a video I produced myself, but it is brutally honest about how the town is in decay.
My father just moved back to McKeesport-he wants to save this city. This is the city of his birth and childhood-first step was the Carnegie Library next step is getting some major businesses in there. Don't laugh, this is the man who got the Coast Guard HQ'd in Martinsburg WV-where there is no water!
I wish him all the luck in the world. I'm not a born cynic... but a people-made cynic. If he can pull this off, he will have my undevided attention and my utmost respect. You mentioned the Carnegie Library. What is the whole story on that ?? I know it was in pretty bad shape the last time I was in there. Tell us... we want to hear more on this.
@Eliselee01 - I moved here from out west back in Aug 2010. Why McKeesport? Close to other family and friends in N. Versailles. I find out when i decide to do so, my step-dad was born here & his father lived here for years with lots of family. I'm not from McKeesport obviously, but it is sad to drive downtown or what I call 'the back way' from where I live and see all the big once beautiful homes trashed and vacant, let alone the businesses. It takes a community to change a place to live (cont.)
@Eliselee01 (cont) takes a community to make a change. I'll team up with your dad to give us 2 people. 1st, all the low life rift raft needs to be run out. Too much crime, too many shootings, home invasions, rapes & robberies. My house was robbed & I was here no more than a month. No one wants to live where poverty crimes rule the streets. Search Mckeesport on youtube & you'll see what I mean. Nothing but aspiring rapper wannbes & school fights. remove crime & you get an inviting environment.
@vegasjh Personally, I think PukePort is beyond hope. The only thing that would help that place is a gasoline truck and a box of matches. However, the cockroaches you mention would just re-locate to other places, because that's what roaches do. The roaches need to be dealt with in the old fashioned way. THAT is the only thing that will bring that city back. And if they want jobs back, the govt. is going to have to be more tax friendly to businesses, but they do the opposite.
You are definitely the Steven Speilberg of photographic memories to Mckeesport, well presented and done so professionally, I wish I had your talent, you brought back nostalga to me and I'm sure many others, hope you do well and if your ever in Alabama and still need a place to live I have a spare room.Born in Mckeesport in 1944 and miss the way it used to be. Chuck Lytle
Sorry about the delay on getting back to you. It's been kind of tough trying to get on line to do these things, but tonight, I've had lots of time to get caught up. Thanks for the kind words on the video production on McKeesport. I really enjoy doing video production. I really wish I could find a job doing it. (Yeah, I have tried repeatedly). My age has a big factor on me not getting hired. (Gee, I'm over the hill at 52). Everybody wants somebody who is 28 years old I guess. What part of Alabama
I dont consider myself a bigot but lets be real. Who is responsible for how this town looks today? Why, our wonderful African-American community who complain constantly but have no self pride in how they live. Their "chillen" are just criminals in training until they hit 14 and get their first gun so they can go hunting their fellow "niggas". I think my new hero is Archie Bunker.
I know a lot of hard-working blacks from living in Atlanta. I think the thing we need to look at here is the Ghetto-folks... and there is no racial barrier on this one. I know many Ghetto types, (or as I call 'em, hood-rats), both black and white. I knew a lot of ghetto white folks in McKeesport too, and all along the Mon River, that ghetto thinking is spreading.
i lived in clairton, glassport, port vue,and dugesne from 69' to the late 70's,working construction, made some big money, early 70's its like somebody stuck a stake in the heart of mckeesport and she died.what happen there does anybody have a guess
Thanks for the compliment on the video. After I blasted the current status of McKeesport, I thought I'd make a nice video from when McKeesport had growth. It makes me ill what they've done to the city. Somebody sent me all of those great photos and I just had to put a video together with them. You live in Lincoln Boro? What's the deal with Lincoln Elementary school ?? Is it still standing? I went to school there like a 100 years ago. Last time I saw it, the place was in really bad shape.
I lived there for 30 years and I go back one day a year for Christmas to see family. The past is a scary place. I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone or something when I drive past the old place. The only positive about some of my family passing one day, will be that I will never have to go back to the vermin infested section 8 hud hell hole ever again. I know a trucker from out of state who has to go to McKeesport every few years. He calls it the valley of the damned.
Welcome to McKeesport - a nice place to live and work---if you dont work, dont pay taxes, do drugs, own a gun, use drugs, and promise to let your property go to hell and litter everywhere!
That is hysterical. Actually, all of those things you mentioned were in my OTHER McKeesport video that I did last year, on how the place is now such a cesspool. At one time though, the city was a nice place. Of course at that time Bedrock was still a place and Wilma and Fred lived there. (Punky Brewster really hates that video too).
