Its the same argument I hear from these clueless republicans in America. This idea that there are people who just sit around and wanna steal everything from working people. When its actually mostly WORKING people who are sick of being raped by the rich. Its to bad people in America are so easily swayed with shiny commercials and propaganda.
@Bodogjoe i have a conservative view and i love the site, theirs dirt on both hands and by that I mean that during Bush's time in the white house the democrats had control of the house and senate. Please think before you speak.
When "Alice in Wonderland" came out in the U.K. several big cinemas refused to show it because Disney wanted to shorten the viewing time at cinemas from 17 to 12 weeks, obviously putting cinemas out of money. Funny how Disney are acting like file sharers and lessening cinema's/film industry profits, all actors actresses still get paid loads it's just the greedy head who wants all his $, what goes around comes around, KEEP SEEDING.
I live in Australia and just got blacklisted for downloading Iron Man 2. This indian guy left a voice message on my mobile who is apparently from America stating that I could be up for 200,000 dollar fine or jail. Now, I never hosted the file at all on the Pirate Bay or any torrrent hosting program at all and I live in Australia. Plus America's laws are not here so.. can I still get into trouble?? Anyone know anything about this?
How exactly does 'the film industry' go about estimating the amount of money it's lost through piracy? Does somebody work out roughly how many films have been downloaded for free then multiply that figure by $15? Just curious...
Holes in their laws, actually. They are not technically distributing the material, only the .torrent file. I find it amusing how they have managed to avoid closing the site or removing any torrent at all while still not in favor of piracy.
@patchy987654 - it might be good for you to know that many filmmakers aren't working at money-loving companies. When you steal a film, you are often taking money from people who are still in debt from making the film. Does that really feel ok to you?
nothing is gonna happen to these big company's because there not loosening any money because from what i gathered most people who download the so called illegal content probably wouldn't have bought what ever it was in the first place because like most we can't afford to spend 20 bucks on a movie or 60 on a game these company's are money hungry jackasses
@videonut1991 - Maybe if you sit beside the people who are working 10 - 12 - 14 hours a day and see what goes in to making a truly good film and then the endless hours of marketing that film and that experience might help you put a value on human time, human intelligence, human skill, human art.
actually, since the 70s (and the rise of the home-owned video camera) people have been trying to prove the negative effect of piracy on the entertainment industry.

@zackzwiezen It's actually illegal to share most books, read the inside copyright. It's stupid though. I can go see alot of Great paintings and sculptures for free but other art like music and film is corporately controlled.
@MidnightTrashh well I WAS going to have a intelligent debate about how sharing digital files is just like writing down a long string of alphanumeric sequences, and most nations courts see it as a legal means of distribution...but you called me a moron and I lost all faith in you having anything to say that would help validate your point. Thank you sir!
We shouldn't have to work duh. We could obviously have machines do everything for us by now, and people would be more than willing to write the software for them for free. Money itself is obsolete.
@sepnova4e - that's an interesting perspective. But there are so many things machines can't do, so that's a little limited. Machines are great, but the human brain is still smarter and more sophisticated and more flexible than any computer. And then who would build the machines? more machines? but then who would build that machine? has to be a human somewhere in the chain. and then someone to monitor the machines someone to repair the machines. So again, people can't work for free.
People have always instinctively been more than willing to help each other. Examples include, a stranger saving your kid from drowning, people that call for an ambulance after a car accident, someone that uses CPR to save a choking man. Also, considering everything would be free, life would be boring and everyone would be eager to participate in society.
dude well theres no problem with torrents their quite useful example:
i am on zune marketplace and i am looking for zombie nation or a foregin techno artist . in america i cant get european cds and zune dosent have what im looking for so what other option do i have? good job pirate bay you guys kick ass
Anything I download as a bit torrent I would not have bought anyways, so they're not loosing any money, in fact bit torrents probably help people like me get exposed to products that we might end up buying that otherwise we would not have bothered with.
if my whole school decided to buy 1 dvd and then share it with everybody on 1 tv or better yet let the students rent it out for free like a book...will Hollywood then call them pirates.... by the way a lot of universities do this already
I'm not sure if you're American or not, but I'm Canadian and our universities have to buy the rights to show the film. So even though they're paying for one copy they pay a larger sum in order to show it more than once to more than one class. I'm not sure if it is like that in the USA but it might be...
Also, in my opinion I never called someone who downloads from bit-torrent a "pirate" for me it would someone who probably downloads say...a movie and burns them to DVD and sells them illegally on the street or in some countries on fairs (you know, street fairs) which happens a lot and I guess I could those people pirates. Also the ones who get originally got hands on the content illegally such as "hacking" a server (say a pornsite) and stole the videos and then share them on bit-torrent.
The Stupid "industry" is fucking lying, no matter how many people download they still make millions (or billions) upon millions of dollars. There's always people who is willing to buy or people who don't even know what bit-torrent is (I know a lot of people who have no idea what it is) and of course people who download something like music or movie to see how it is and if they like it they buy it (usually me), so they still make A LOT of money regardless...
well lots of people feel comfortable with their ignorance and prefer to go the pirate market instead of learning how to use a download program, know tons of them... mainly in 3rd world countries
Yeah, I won't drive more then 5 minutes to find a Pirate CD / DVD street salesman, it got so common the past 3 years, you can almost forget it's illegal.
I don't really care they are making money out of it, it's almost no money at all, about 15 cents per copy.
What troubles me, is that they don't really know what they are selling, they don't know which movie copy is burned, if its a Telesync or CAM, aXXo or FXG.
Seriously, this is an on going fad in many parts in Latin America as well as Europe...Original Dvd's are expensive especially since you are using currency from that region instead of dollars...a dollar equals more in many parts....I guess pirating is the easy way for most to make some money...
Yes, not only the currency change, the minimum and average wage are about 5 to 6 times less then the Americans. For example, a Bus Driver has to work a whole week to be able to afford a single original DVD or a full day worth payment to rent a single DVD only to return it the next day. So it's kinda idiotic to waste all that work on a movie copy. Don't get me wrong, that same mony can buy alot of food, water, electricity. Only imported things are over expensive.
What comes to piracy, I don't think movie, game or music industries will be vanished. There will always be ppl want to see movie in _theater_, visit _concerts_ etc. Piracy is just taking bit out of the money (big)corporations already have enough. And I think musicians should be grateful that their music is being listened! But what comes to this IMO, I think if you like something you downloaded(or going to), you should really buy it, download things you want test or you don't want to support.
A) I can't afford to buy a CD at the moment, so when I buy the CD I delete the song/album (not much because of supporting but because I don't want to have duplicate copies and I'm not lazy to put the CD in my stereo every time I want to listen to it) or
B) I want to check an album from a band I never heard before (or an album from a band I know that I haven't heard) and then if I like it I buy it and delete it from my computer.
LOL Hollywood wouldn't even lose any money, because I wouldn't have bought their movie in the first place, the only reason why anyone would have it, is because its FREE.
Filesharing is a part of the new revolution on the Internet, there is now way you can stop it, even when the IPRED law will be in presence in Sweden... It doesn't matter...
Its not a relative thing. It must be unnoticeable by the human eye. Only noticed by the subconscious to be a "subliminal" message. Which may be illegal to place in public video distribution without warnings, there was a controversy on the subject. I dont remember is a law was ever passed.
but some people may have worse eyesight (not meaning offence) and in that case it would be some aforementioned possibly illegal subliminalness. Not that The Pirate Bay would care :)
Filesharing allows people who don't need or want a "greedy" corporation to tell them how much they must pay for their content to obtain it without paying. All I can say is both sides of this issue piss me off; The producers and artists for selling out and reaping in more than they deserve, and the file sharers who cannot argue that there is no enjoyment and as a consequence value to various media.
Large companies bleedin us dry all controlled by a small group of greedy evil bastads who happen to create and make available to us class a drugs while pretending to be against it.they control all religions(which are all similiar because they are all based on fear)they inject us with poisonus inoculations claiming they help.Lukily I picked up a book namd "conversations with God",and I escape from the illusion every night, meet up with angels aliens spirits an ppls higher selves,in meditation
I really wanted to learn more about piracy and torrents. But this movie has subliminal messages flashing on the screen every 20 seconds, so stopped watching the movie because I don't want brainwashed :(
i hate them greedy movimaking motherfuckers...not every1 can pay 4 their movies and not every1 has time 2 go 2 the fuckin cinema to watch a movie they wanna see....i download and i go 2 movies...so still they are making a lot of money...seems like they just want more and more...well here's some bad news 4 them...Piracy will NEVER EVER EVER DIE SO STOP TRYING 2 STOP IT!!!
i say fuck the studios and record labels , they over charge for their content anyway. remember the music albums, 1 song is good and others sucked, but u still got to buy them all. kiss my ass
Regardless of how you rationalize it, pirating, makes less money available
to produce content. Leaving less or no $ available for "arty"/"risky" projects I'm looking at you ass hole. Your the reason that interesting, progressive Movies don't get made. Your the reason, they can't afford to give music that isn't superficial drivel
a chance, Fuck you thief. Get a real Job and pay for your Shit. I'm not saying that we don't have to evolve our business model
The reason interesting and progressive movies are'nt made is the moron belif in Hollywood that lots of special effects can replace a good script and solid actors. As for the music scene, they never wanted to give everybody a chance. There are lables that give contracts to new bands in order to get the rights to their music, then shutt them down. By killing of newcomers they create less competition for their stars and controle the market. Idol is all they had to offer in the first place:(
Both pirates and the labels are in the wrong. I've pirated just as much as anyone else from movies, to games, to music - and it makes me laugh when people try to give themselves the 'robin hood' personal. Get over yourselves. What we're doing is theft. Thats not to say that the movie companies and music labels arn't in the wrong too. Musician's always get screwed six ways to tuesday - unless their name is Britney Spears. If pirates really cared about it then they'd start demanding the labels and
Hollywood start cleaning up their act. But why waste all that effort when its easier to just sit down and download hundreds of dollars worth in torrents - then feel good about yourself. Activism just takes way too much effort.
"Lost 18 billion to piracy..." BULLSHIT! What makes the movie & record industry think people would pay money for the crap they release? I've never bought any records or movies, not even before the 1st P2P programs were released. There are plenty of movies to be watched on the telly and music heard from radio.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
learning this now i gain a lot of money working, and i am paying my debts to society, i am getting a better man, and what surrounds me in growing by consequence. cultural emancipation = better world, censorship = people that believe in what other force to believe. this is propaganda: take a look to china nowadays. so, thank you freedom in intellectual property. ok?
rather think about this video speaking of books. books on which you study. i don't download so much music or films. i like milestones of early cinema, but i download books. i study on it, the cost too much for me. i learn.
hey you guys, you haven't understood what this film is about. there is no discussion about download or not, this film is about intellectual property, the need to share information that is an inalienable right of mankind. the need that people have to communicate, tell and learn. this is not about movie industries or mainstream music.

are you trying to be funny, or sarcastic? Films are our way of story telling, plus copyright laws have gotten out of control. Corporations are greedy pigs.
I take it you've never heard of books. No matter... I'm curious to hear an example of "copyright laws getting out of control." I'm teachable.
(let it be known that I do, and will continue to, upload content that is not my own. Who doesn't? It's just if someone says, "Hey, that's mine." I'd take the content down and they have every right to tell me to do so. Am I being fair?)
ial is a clear example of what MAINSTREAM is: a film made to be a blockbuster. study cinema, read stories that make people grow in culture. not the classic "extinction level event" and "last man standing with guns" american film. dear beauch, you poor youngster, intellectual property is far above money.
whoever hax movies never wouldve paid 2 c them anyway-so no0nes outta $-if anything; hax promote the movie & boost the profits-BOTTOM LINE! just the same with the music ind. when the mus ind. got lawfully anal-that hurt them if hollywood starts 2 b anal then i, among many, will stop going to movie theatres/video rentals etc.. they'd best pipe down on irrational survey #s hack #s never reflect $ lost but the vindication of the oppressed no-longer denied that which the gratuitist normally endulge
I hardly think the messages are subliminal (at whoever said)
They are very noticable, I was just listening to the audio but taking a quick look at the video too around about 4:55 I spotted "Resist" "Share" "Enjoy", im sure theres more but who really cares.
I remember when this happened, and though it was a little worrysome at the time (since the US goverment DOES think it can order any goverment to follow it's laws) it actually turned out to be a hilarous joke.
The goverment raided their servers, and they were down for about 3 days.
Those guys have gotten truely wicked drunk and hung-over, letting the servers languish for easily twice as much as that.
I don't believe in copy right laws, A)because "the people" shouldn't have to pay to protect the "property" of others B)if a company wants to protect thier property, get better protection, don't put that burdon on the public. C)movies and media don't ever hold a sustained value and eople who take copies of freely available media were never likely going to be paid customer anyway. So the figures they give are highly inflated regarding how much money they lose from piracy.
yepper-plus these nazi freex know this-they just want the ignorant masses conditioned with all of the so called "INTERNET LAWLESSNESS", the sickness: the gov must protect us from ourselves whether legit criminality or not; the public are the ones 2 fear in this matter. Their #s {strength} can often push selfdestruction with media manipulation-kinda like 911 etc..
The gov must protect us from ourselves? You saw that in a movie right? You should be able to think for yourself. After all, if you can't protect yourself, just die.
wow shut the fuck up you stupid niggers.... hollywood still makes a shit load of money and piracy is nothing compared to what they still make.

Anything I download as a bit torrent I would not have bought anyways, so they're not loosing any money, in fact bit torrents probably help people like me get exposed to products that we might end up buying that otherwise we would not have bothered with.

if my whole school decided to buy 1 dvd and then share it with everybody on 1 tv or better yet let the students rent it out for free like a book...will Hollywood then call them pirates.... by the way a lot of universities do this already
bigvic22sti 2 years ago
I'm not sure if you're American or not, but I'm Canadian and our universities have to buy the rights to show the film. So even though they're paying for one copy they pay a larger sum in order to show it more than once to more than one class. I'm not sure if it is like that in the USA but it might be...

uploading = ILLEGAL
downloading = making anonymous use of other's infringement of laws
martiman123 2 years ago
Also, in my opinion I never called someone who downloads from bit-torrent a "pirate" for me it would someone who probably downloads say...a movie and burns them to DVD and sells them illegally on the street or in some countries on fairs (you know, street fairs) which happens a lot and I guess I could those people pirates. Also the ones who get originally got hands on the content illegally such as "hacking" a server (say a pornsite) and stole the videos and then share them on bit-torrent.
MoonOvIce 2 years ago
The Stupid "industry" is fucking lying, no matter how many people download they still make millions (or billions) upon millions of dollars. There's always people who is willing to buy or people who don't even know what bit-torrent is (I know a lot of people who have no idea what it is) and of course people who download something like music or movie to see how it is and if they like it they buy it (usually me), so they still make A LOT of money regardless...

Spartacusse 2 years ago
Seriously, this is an on going fad in many parts in Latin America as well as Europe...Original Dvd's are expensive especially since you are using currency from that region instead of dollars...a dollar equals more in many parts....I guess pirating is the easy way for most to make some money...
atlasperros 2 years ago
Yes, not only the currency change, the minimum and average wage are about 5 to 6 times less then the Americans. For example, a Bus Driver has to work a whole week to be able to afford a single original DVD or a full day worth payment to rent a single DVD only to return it the next day. So it's kinda idiotic to waste all that work on a movie copy. Don't get me wrong, that same mony can buy alot of food, water, electricity. Only imported things are over expensive.
Spartacusse 2 years ago 2
tell me about it
I remember taking a friend who was from Brazil to a nice restaurant by my hotel in Rio
She was like "this place is very expensive"
But i didn't mind not because it was a chick but because it didn't even hurt my wallet....

TuPP3 3 years ago
I usually download music only when either
A) I can't afford to buy a CD at the moment, so when I buy the CD I delete the song/album (not much because of supporting but because I don't want to have duplicate copies and I'm not lazy to put the CD in my stereo every time I want to listen to it) or
B) I want to check an album from a band I never heard before (or an album from a band I know that I haven't heard) and then if I like it I buy it and delete it from my computer.

If you can consciously notice it its not subliminal. Its only truly subliminal if its under the level of conscious notice.

but to others who don't notice they are subliminal...
Freemind757 3 years ago
Its not a relative thing. It must be unnoticeable by the human eye. Only noticed by the subconscious to be a "subliminal" message. Which may be illegal to place in public video distribution without warnings, there was a controversy on the subject. I dont remember is a law was ever passed.
tmccormick2010 3 years ago 2
but some people may have worse eyesight (not meaning offence) and in that case it would be some aforementioned possibly illegal subliminalness. Not that The Pirate Bay would care :)
Freemind757 3 years ago
Filesharing allows people who don't need or want a "greedy" corporation to tell them how much they must pay for their content to obtain it without paying. All I can say is both sides of this issue piss me off; The producers and artists for selling out and reaping in more than they deserve, and the file sharers who cannot argue that there is no enjoyment and as a consequence value to various media.

(ie I tunes ect.) but theft is theft.
Goldenboy1824 3 years ago
The reason interesting and progressive movies are'nt made is the moron belif in Hollywood that lots of special effects can replace a good script and solid actors. As for the music scene, they never wanted to give everybody a chance. There are lables that give contracts to new bands in order to get the rights to their music, then shutt them down. By killing of newcomers they create less competition for their stars and controle the market. Idol is all they had to offer in the first place:(
emeticum 3 years ago
Both pirates and the labels are in the wrong. I've pirated just as much as anyone else from movies, to games, to music - and it makes me laugh when people try to give themselves the 'robin hood' personal. Get over yourselves. What we're doing is theft. Thats not to say that the movie companies and music labels arn't in the wrong too. Musician's always get screwed six ways to tuesday - unless their name is Britney Spears. If pirates really cared about it then they'd start demanding the labels and

learning this now i gain a lot of money working, and i am paying my debts to society, i am getting a better man, and what surrounds me in growing by consequence. cultural emancipation = better world, censorship = people that believe in what other force to believe. this is propaganda: take a look to china nowadays. so, thank you freedom in intellectual property. ok?

rather think about this video speaking of books. books on which you study. i don't download so much music or films. i like milestones of early cinema, but i download books. i study on it, the cost too much for me. i learn.

hey you guys, you haven't understood what this film is about. there is no discussion about download or not, this film is about intellectual property, the need to share information that is an inalienable right of mankind. the need that people have to communicate, tell and learn. this is not about movie industries or mainstream music.

Ramlag 4 years ago
I remember when this happened, and though it was a little worrysome at the time (since the US goverment DOES think it can order any goverment to follow it's laws) it actually turned out to be a hilarous joke.
The goverment raided their servers, and they were down for about 3 days.
Those guys have gotten truely wicked drunk and hung-over, letting the servers languish for easily twice as much as that.
Thus, liquor has more power than the US.
cougerpounce 4 years ago 3
I don't believe in copy right laws, A)because "the people" shouldn't have to pay to protect the "property" of others B)if a company wants to protect thier property, get better protection, don't put that burdon on the public. C)movies and media don't ever hold a sustained value and eople who take copies of freely available media were never likely going to be paid customer anyway. So the figures they give are highly inflated regarding how much money they lose from piracy.
bits010101 4 years ago
yepper-plus these nazi freex know this-they just want the ignorant masses conditioned with all of the so called "INTERNET LAWLESSNESS", the sickness: the gov must protect us from ourselves whether legit criminality or not; the public are the ones 2 fear in this matter. Their #s {strength} can often push selfdestruction with media manipulation-kinda like 911 etc..

The gov must protect us from ourselves? You saw that in a movie right? You should be able to think for yourself. After all, if you can't protect yourself, just die.
