  • Thanks!

  • The only way to be safe is to have two receivers. That way if one goes bad, you still have a good one. I have read this, but I do not know how to hook it up in any of my planes. Any comments on that? I use Spektrum Receivers (AR9100) and a JR 9503 transmitter, and mostly I'm concerned about losing my giant scale planes to a bad RX.

  • @matthard35 use a power box setup

  • Thank you for a very insightful information.

    Kris

  • Thanks fo sharing! Regards

  • Great stuff, keep up the good work.

  • hi there

    hope you are well

i really hope that you are a very rich man as you are way to intelligent to be poor

keep up the good work and thankyou for your info as an average intelligence individual myself i rely on people like you to do all the hard work for me as i dont have the time to do it with small children and cant afford to waste money badly massly distributed rubbish sorry for the spelling errors and again many thanks for the info many thanks steve in the uk

  • It would be nice to know the range of the spektum RX and TX as the dx8 2000ft DX7 3500 how come such a large difference ???? be nice to compare

  • Hi there, you mention doing a comparisom of the various 2.4ghz systems, yet I cant find it. Have you done that one?

Keep up the great work, great channel!

  • Just a question without looking up info on the forums ..... of the "some" users who have had issues, how many were using four cell nimh AA packs? (do you have any idea, as I'm quite interested).

Currently I'm thankful I'm running a high capacity 5 cell pack!

Thanks for this vid, quite informative.

  • @kiwibob72 Interesting you should mention 4-cell packs. A guy turned up at our club last week with a "brand new" Spektrum DX8. It came with a "brand new" 4-cell receiver pack boldly labeled with the "Spektrum" branding. What the?

  • @xjet I guess like any system and or chain ..... things are only ever as good as your weakest link!!

Put a weak link in that just happens to be the power behind the entire system, and your asking for trouble I guess.

I'm just waiting till someone comes up with GOOD and relatively cost effective 7.4v capable servos for my heli and plane, then it'll be 2s Lipo with no regulator (and my DSM2 system) - nothing like overkill I guess!! ;)

  • @kiwibob72 Unless you're flying electric with a 2S lipo for the motor then a much better setup is a 2S LiFePO4 (A123) pack for your receiver and servos. Apart from tail-rotor servos (and some gyros), almost all servos are happy with the 6.6V of an A123 pack so no regulator is required and they're a *very* safe/rugged chemistry compared to lipos.

  • great job! love the info you offer!

  • Bruce, this was very informative. Thank you for all you do for the modeling world.

  • Hi

Thank you for this interesting review!

What Software/Hardware do you use for your PC 2.4Ghz analyser?

    Cheers

    Michael

  • Really liking your videos. They do a great job of helping people understand the tech behind this radio systems. Im a very visual learner and seeing the spectrum analyser output is a great way of explaining things. Its making my a bit wary of my Spekrum kit but at least I now understand its limitations. The way I see it DSM2 will always be more resilient than my old FM kit and I never used to worry about that. Perhaps ignorance is bliss.

  • You Rock! I had no idea how this system works until now. Thanks!!!

  • Close channel selection is a very minor flaw in Spektrum, but it is a real system issue which will likely become more of a problem as the number of 2.4GHz sets in use increases. As you say, it should be correctable by a firmware change, but I think Horizon should be working on DSM3; their system is being outclassed by newer, true FHSS systems now.

After watching this and the FrSky review, I'm going to go with FrSky to upgrade my JR, instead of Spektrum. Thanks indeed for the good reviews.

  • Great review! The only thing that wasn't covered is the limited number of JR transmitters that can be switched on at one time. I believe that number is 39. While at most flying fields you won't ever see this, many of the larger fun flies approach this number when you consider transmitters being switched on in the pits. My brother lost a $5K CompARF at Joe Nall this year due to this very thing. I fly a 12X and had a lockout last year at Nall but fortunately got it back before zero AGL

  • This was a great simple to understand review from a guy who really knows his subject....thank you

    oldsapper

  • Very good - fills in some blanks - still

not clear why some DX7's have plane crashes

  • Comment removed

  • Consistency, customer support and marketing have obviously kept Spektrum a field filling technology, but I believe once Frsky gets the bugs worked out of it's form factor it could be the new standard. Great review, as always. I've been looking forward to some name brands in the mix.

  • Awesome work Xjet!

JR is hands down my favorite primarily for ease and flexibility of programming. I haven't made the 2.4 jump yet as I really want to see their system improve.

Can you tell me if they ever hop frequencies when interference is encountered? From your test it looks as if they don't.

  • Thanks for putting up such nice reviews on the tube! Keep up the great work.

  • xjet,

awesome info, makes things much clearer on the DSM2 side.....

  • i want more info about the frsky modulsssss :P

    any news about them?

  • What do you want to know. I've posted a video of the FrSky system flying in my pulsejet powered Tamecat on this channel (XJet).

  • Candid clear analysis......GREAT

  • I've had a chance to talk with the boss of Horizon Hobby europe, Joerg Schamun as well as one of the Spektrum engineers from the US at the Horizon event in germany last year. They basically claimed that Spektrum was using only two channels to be more "cooperative", and that the system allegedly monitors the entire band.

That doesn't seem to be the case, actually... ;)

  • Been a Spektrum user from day one. My only gripe with it is there is now better technology out there for it and yet its price is just the same as it was when it entered the market. I will keep the DX7 for the BNF stuff such as the MSR but I am slowly switching to cheaper stuff.

  • Well i've been using my DX6I for coming up to the third year now and have only ever had one problem with it,that was using the AR6100e rx in my styker and it got shot down twice so i got rid of that rx rather quick and never found out why,but moved onto the ar500 and never had a problem with that one,so all in all i'm well happy with spektrum but do want to upgrade to a better Radio and your video's are helping out loads ;-) 5*
