  • Santana sucked on this lol. Stick to samba!

  • CT is just SMOKING!!!

  • What the hell just happened to me. If I had seen a performance like this when they were young, I would have said ... "Yea, that's TOP. kickin and rockion as usual." But, to see these OLD men (I like telling people I'm old, as in old school) push the funk envelope like this with the enthuseasim of a bunch of young kick ass "wild turks" well, it just fills me with pride. They sound like they're still in their late 20's.

TY, TY, TY 4 this post. TOP doesn't grow old. I almost did something "nasty."

  • as good as it ever is, better, super tower of power.

    pl

  • It's all about sex.

  • 1:07 what genre's this instrument played most in?

  • @EvilN00ber gospel, r&b and soul mostly, some black jazz too

(check artists like joey defrancesco and jimmy smith for jazz) (james brown, top, anyone on the funk side) but alot of gospel stuff

  • @izzyvulaca gee thx so much :)

  • Worst Crowd Ever?

  • Love Tower of Power and looking for to see Santana in concert in Vegas next week.

  • ya carlos was walkin a bit of a tight rope sorry to say

  • @groach22... nope..,

  • 3:45 look at them go

  • Chester is insane!!! love this guy!

  • Chester's sustained pinky on the hammond at 1:35 just shows how much of an epic instrument the Hammond organ is. One note played for half a minute and it gives the atmosphere just that much more oomph. Love it!

  • As a professional bassist-I can say this bass player is the greatest living funk bass guy Ive heard..The method he uses-I call the tap method.....very difficult especially to play sideways.......

  • There are very few drummers that can funk the hell out of these here drums like this BA can. Very few drummers like dis

  • @jimsalinassr Garibaldi is one of the best, but Ron E. Beck, who played drums for most of the time while Garibaldi was gone, is almost indistinguishable. He sings too.

  • @new music i'm so sick of seeing ppl playing with records and synthesizers who can't play an instrument, my son is a deejay, lol

  • @roxyavalon3 umm a synthesizer is a piano that is more complicated to the nth degree how is it not an instrument?

  • @youthXattack

I agree with you, except her point i think was mainly to the people with no musical background goofing around with sytnthesizers to make electronic beats and what not. Because I'm sick of all those people too with a Apple computer trying say they are on the same level as other musicians. They'll never be Chick Corea or these guys.

  • I'll be 30 later this year...I was born and raised on T.O.P.!!!! Most of today's music will NEVER be this good!

  • tightest band ever, bar none!

  • @joesetef you got dat stuff right!!!!!!1

  • "Lets Make it Funky One Time"= Understatement of the century

  • not trying to be pessimistic, but does Santana seem like he is a little out of his element?

  • @DealTurtle not at all..just a different solo

  • @DealTurtle uhhhh??? YEP

  • top used to tour with AWB......saw them in 2000 at turning stone casino

  • diggin that horn section. . .sure takes me back :)

  • seeing them this sunday!!!!!!someone call me a cab in advance

  • Cant wait to see these guys in October! These guys put on one fantastic show!!! WOW!!!

  • i love you

  • I think that organist must have learned from listening to Jimmy Smith. Fantastic!!

  • @recovering16 you obviously don't know that Chester Thompson taught them all.

    CT!

  • @stanb42 Well, CT (Chester Thompson?) - tell me more. Don't leave me hanging! LOL

  • @recovering16 CT was the organist for TOP during their breakout years and into the early 80s. Peruse YouTube for TOP during the early years and he'll be there. Chester is now the "musical director" for Carlos Santana, thus the connection on this video. I highly recommend you download the album "Live in Color" by TOP and listen to two of the greatest soloists go at it on "Knock Yourself Out". Lenny Pickett has an unbelievable 8 minute sax solo, followed by CT, who brings the house down.

  • @stanb42 Yes! That Lenny Pickett solo was out of this world! I wore out the LP of mine listening to it! (I just dated myself) He and Chester are fearless!

  • 19 dont like.....insanity!

  • COOL!!!!!!!

  • 0:29 mr. david garibaldi... omg

  • Band sounds awesome,...Santana,... is average

  • Theyy have a smoothass response

  • Great grooving! Sure, Carlos isn't as polished as TOP and falls back on the same licks, but I enjoyed it. Nothing wrong with a bit of looseness and grit IMO

  • This is just Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

  • go keyboard man!

  • i guess while some arguing like little school girls, some of us are truly enjoying the talent. All great musicians!

  • For all the comments and critiques here, come on! I'm no Carlos fan, but here he's a guest... he's fitting into their thing. The real stars though are the band! Still blistering hot after all these years. Vocalist Larry Braggs was born to be in TOP. And great to see organist Chester Thompson (long with Santana), back where he started. Carlos knows where he stands is the grand scheme of things, I don't think he needs anyone judging him.

  • You gotta listen to what Carlos is doing here....he's playing funky and on top of the horns. It's a little different from his usual style, but perfect for the occasion. That's why he's great.

  • santana nailed it. santana is one of the greatest of all time.... listen to him and then speek.

  • Soul Power! Awesome keyboard soul who is that by the way?

  • Power!

  • @durvettm the keyboarder is the Chester Thompson, he plays with Santana !!

  • dancing with wild abandon!!!

  • Santana rocks but TOP Funks the dumb stuff. @ 60 i can say that if it doesn't include a Hammond B3 w/Lesley rotos and a horn section.............it just strives too hard to be R@R..................anybody remember WAR?

Or do we have too many bigots still today...............it's a family affair!

  • I didnt realize their was this many Carlos Santana haters hahaha. I'm sure all of y'all can out play him, I bet? phahaha

  • You're out of your mind Santana is off the chain you don't know his music have you ever been to any of his concerts. This man is bad :) wish I had him. LightSpectra you don't know anything about music. MUSIC THE REAL DEAL.

  • just fukk

  • Outstanding!

  • Santana plays there on medium level, but other musicans are fucking gooooood!! Incredible!

    That's groove!!!

  • fuck....seriosly...santana...sounded like a little kid trying to practise his parts.....

  • And I am sure you play guitar soooo much better. Idiot fool. Santana probably learned he was going on with T.O.P. about five minutes before this jam. I hate it when non-musicians like this to try to sound like they are something special. "Thumbs Down" this idiot off the list.

  • i just creamed my jeans = twice !! = damn !!

  • Oh man....

  • Great Song

  • I just jazzed my pants at the title of this video. I haven't even started watching it yet.

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • This is the best clip on the internet... Wow totally awesome...

  • University Of Funk

  • oh God, here they come...they're gonna dance again!!!

  • It's a shame we don't have events like thgis on the states.

  • Oh God, I had to come back again just to watch the dance!!

  • THIS SONG IS JUST F*UCKING EARGASMIC!!!!! And chester's solo.. jeeebus.

  • the hottest band on planet earth!

  • LOVE the sound of the old Hammond B2 and Leslies. That FULL rock and roll organ cannot be duplicated: sorry.

  • This is just happy and full of energy that I can die now

  • Chester Thomson "C. T." on keyboards! He must come back to the SANTANA Band!

  • Where have all the flowers gone? -> Y-o-u-T-u-b-e ;-)

  • I thought I recognized Garibaldi on drums, what is hip? He is and I plan on seeing him in heaven one day, jammin for the Lord. But he plays drums like a devil!!!LOL

  • that audience is so fucking cold!

  • @ExELCiS777 That much funking power had them amazed and stoned! LOL

  • i wish i was there.

  • TOP!!!! Thank you for this -Chester Thompson is KILLIN!!

    YT Gold!

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOH MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY WORRRRRRRRRRD YAAAAAAAAAAAH SON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • boring music for the squares. *yawn*

  • @clittwister Boring...?

  • @noconfig yes.

  • The dictionary defines tight as Tower of Power. What it is about bass pedals. nuf said

  • Did that crowd even notice the magic on stage!?!

  • the keyboardist was on crack when he soloed, hahah!

you gotta love how he expressed his joy on his face.

  • @ioga24 Incredible satisfaction, in tune with music, with his soul and others'... magic Chester :-)

  • keyboardist is actually in Santanas' band also the percussionist. but santana does use the same licks over and over. love him but one song sounds like the another.

  • the keyboards WENT OFF

  • The drums make me crazy

  • Loved the organ solo!

  • Kinda says a lot when Carlos Santana is the least talented on a stage don't it?

And that's meant as more of a compliment to TOP than a slight against Santana.

  • @zenmonk420 - that's a load of..........!!

  • how could someone dislike this? it diesn't matter if its 1 person or 17, this is a MASTERPIECE

  • My lord, I loved this

  • I Never Liked Santana :P His Solos Are Simple and..Weird..Just My Opinion..I'll Stick To Paul Jackson Jr, Greg Howe :D

  • @Jhey172

Thing about Carlos Santana is that he liked playing with jazzers but made no effort to learn more about harmony than he knew in 1969. So no matter what stage in his career, his solos are very simple, basic. He might have grown spiritually, but he never grew as a soloist. People tend to outgrow him. As a kid, around 1972, I thought: this is as good as guitar gets. A few years later, he seemed boring.

  • @Drblooter99 - you're an idiot!!!

  • @ceilirwin

But I can make longer sentences than you.

  • grande carlos

  • Show!!!!

  • FUCKING FUNKY SHIT! DAM!!!! SO GREAT!!! :)

  • @Lightspectra This is really not a accurate example of Santana's playing skills. Guitar, in jazz, was never meant to be brought out to the solo field. It is designed as a supporting instrument, not a "in your face" instrument. It's hard to bring a supporting instrument out in the solo field and make it fit in most jazz/funk music styles. I agree, it wasn't that great, but still a great attempt with a great band.

  • Santana= wank

  • Prestia and Garibaldi just tie this whole thing down... One of the most solid rhythm pairs that have ever existed.

  • the keyboard solo is spot on

  • Seeing Santana play with Tower of Power confirms my theory that Santana doesn't know how to play guitar. It's a good thing Tower of Power is too good to be ruined by a guy that clearly doesn't get the groove.

  • @LightSpectra - get a grip.........and really who cares what you think...........

  • @ceilirwin Who cares what I think? You, apparently, since you dug through five months of comments in order to respond.

  • Fucking A Chester you play like GODDDDDDDDD !

  • Some kind of dream that...

  • Mr. Paradiddle :))))

  • dumb song

  • What is the name this song? What country was this concert?

  • @steinseba "Knock Yourself Out" on the East Bay Grease Album from 1969, This was at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Swisterland.

  • @lazlo717 Thanks buddy!

  • Thanks for this upload, greetings from Oakland!!!

  • ROGER WILLIAMS

  • This is the real deal ! peoples, you havn"t been to a Concert till youve been to a Carlos Santana or T O P.. guaranteed you will be smiling to yourself for at least a week ! ! Music all inside your body ,,,,, The Bay Area Boys,.....

  • Who's the drummer? David Gilla-something?

  • @Voiceguardian garibaldi:P

  • @Groovy26407 Thanks mate!

LOL, while i was typing this I actually heard the name clearly,

    thanks to you, MOST probably...

  • @Groovy26407 I should've google'd it actaully, but I guess I had a lazy night ;-)

    haha...

    thanks again!

  • @Groovy26407 np:)

  • Playing to a TOUGH crowd!!---But, the goosey dancing @ 3:56 got 'em loosened up-----LOVE IT!!

  • I don`t know...everything was tight in this song including Carlos Santana`s lead....just `cuz it`s not his usual style doesn`t make it worse...he was blending with rest of the musicians and sounded great in my opinion...

  • Chester Thomson en teclados....(santana)

  • Played with this guys back in the days ,we did theyre support act ,they are the rebirth of cool .

  • that brotha is shredding up the keys

  • One big groove party. Wow! Nobody makes music like this anymore. These are real musicians.

  • i love the drummer

he plays so good and cool, too

  • if this concert was in chicago i was there. GREAT CONCERT.

  • this is the bay at its best

  • Justin Thompson you legend, his solo brought this song to a whole new level....

  • @beansofsteel Not Justin but Chester Thompson

  • why my YouTube no Audio?

  • Have luved Tower of Power since the 70s!! Being a Northern Cali girl, I gotta say - THEY are the "Hippest"!

  • emilio castillo still got some moves..dance sequence

  • Tower of Power are the kings of music!!!! Chester Thompson... INSANE!!! Garibaldi, Castillo, Prestia, Kupka.... pure genius

  • What makes them so good is the same reason The Santana Bands are always first rate. These are all highly skilled, competent, and well seasoned pros. Together the egos are put to aside and the focus is on making musical magic.

  • i just funked my undies

  • Chester Thomson - Genius for ever!

  • cool

  • I gotta say that I didn't feel Santana's solo, I liked better the keyboard solo.

  • @waxo86 I have to agree with you, I think Carlos was a little out of his element.

  • @waxo86

yeah one of the most overrated guitarist in my opinion, although I have to say he did influence me when I first started playing. He is way out his league with this line up.

  • @waxo86 chester thomspon baby

  • @waxo86 it was a so blues' ballad solo ;) if u know what i mean

  • Had two continuous eargasms with this one, so fuckn tight!

  • fuckin nasty!

  • omg give me chills when they dance at 3:55 wow so amazing!!!

  • @BehindAnarchy yeah man, the best moment of the show. just epic.

  • @BehindAnarchy Oh YEAH!!! Holy Godzilla's the hair was standing up all over me!! Dig on the dance!!

  • These guys are so tight!!!

  • Oakland stroke!!!

  • it helps to be "functionally wired" to reeeleee enjoy this group and get into the amazing grooves they weave

  • yeah CT! - TOP grooved wie keine andere Kapelle auf diesem Planeten!

  • México!

  • Huge fan of Santana here... but gotta say - this lead playing was a bit..... uninspired?

  • The pianist or whatever is he............Man, it's great

  • @dexter7856 thats Mr Chester Thompson.

  • The Pianist or whatever is he... man ?

  • the way they all start dancing after the knock yourself out part! wicked...

  • Not one of Carlos' best solos )-: Looks a bit under pressure and short of ideas in this clip. Chester T., saves the day, though, with an amazing organ solo. Great to see him back with the band that originally rocked his career and later gave him the chance to start a long musical co-operation with Carlos.

  • There are (as of the moment I'm writing this) 16 people who didn't like this. Seriously, how in the world can anyone NOT like this! Wow!

  • This Music is food for the Soul! Right on!

  • fuckin brilliant isnt it!

  • FUCKING GROOVE!

  • Puro GROOVE!!!

Y pinche gente ni se mueve, chale!! Por eso son europeos, jajaja!!!

  • 415 at its best keep it funky,,DzNuTTsRaDIO... thats what iam talking about,,, bless you for the video WOW....good times back then peace and love from your friend ,,, CALIF.. 415,,,,Oaktown.. baby....good job.......

  • haha, some of you guys ripping on santana's solo, tsk tsk tsk. don't be so ignorant, he's sitting in with a band with musicians that have lot of chops, santana has chops but more than anything he has his own sound and touch and feel, he doesn't want to shred for all you tech freaks. he wants to play something memorable. learn to appreciate :P

  • @Sixstringnoodler........memorable ? You think what Santana did was memorable ? I won't get into a back and forth dialogue with you as you Santana lovers are in denial about him . If you had blind folds on and didn't know this was Santana playing , you would be criticizing your ass off about what a terrible guitar player you heard . Denial ! Forget shredding...it doesn't even have to be that.......just something in time and with substance would be nice !
