  • wow! what a dream home you got there :)

  • I would love to come by and check out your progress and descuss code issues in our area.

  • @earthkeyper Sure thing email me ohiolavenderfarm@gmail.com and I'll schedule a day to come out.

  • My research shows tires to be hazardous and disposal of them is treated that way by many codes, rules and regulations, including landfill disposal. How are you dealing with the toxicity and potential leaching of the toxins?

  • @123mainst1 You just haven't researched enough! The offgassing of tires is a non-issue. Tires are hazardous in piles not Earthships. There is 40 years of research and development of self-sufficient housing made from recycled materials.

There is also an extensive study by the University of Wisconsin-Madison that was presented to us by the state of New Mexico.

The research can be obtained through the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, Wisconsin, 53706.

  • @123mainst1 You can also read the cover page form the New mexico Environmental Department by searching Earthship Offgassing where you will find the Architect's website with this information. The research has been done and this is a completely safe and most of all a durable, cost effective living solution. These Earthship's can be put up against any conventional type housing structure for long term durability and efficiency. He don't even need a furnace.

  • @123mainst1 Also, how about all the playgrounds that use shredded tire pieces? Are these hazardous? The truth is tires are hazardous in piles and landfills because of water sitting, mosquitoes, along with rats and mice problems. Then you have decomposing off gassing. This causes unhealthy situations not tires rammed with earth. And using tires for foundations is so much more healthier than burning them. Regulations by the EPA are out there for people creating dumps of tires. Search Google :)

  • Well done! I am interested in having my own earthship but need to know more about the costs and permit stuff...

  • @Darkyodajedi You can email me at ohiolavenderfarm@gmail.com and I'll entertain your interest. Thanks!

  • what part of ohio? did you have any problems with buildng codes? i live in sw ohio and would like to build one someday thanks for sharing

  • -- Way to go man... all one guy over six months... now that is determination! Great work, thanks for posting!! =D

  • Garbage seems to be in huge abundance nowadays. Why not make good use of that garbage?

  • @roguegirl29 That's exactly what we are doing, with over 12-55 gal drums of aluminum cans and 4 barrels of glass bottles have been used so far. As for tire packing, the next wall we begin will utilize old carpet instead of cardboard in the bottom.

  • Thanks for sharing your project, keep us posted!!!!!

  • Very nice work :D

  • Thank u so much! Impressive, inspiring! Good luck with ur efforts. I will make the same in Kiwiland!

  • how many square feet is this house gonna be and how many tires will it take? Im trying to get an idea of how much its gonna cost me and take etc thanks. kickass job on doing that by yourself!

  • @gonnagetmydrinkon This will be 3 rooms 1100s' and we used 700 tires on 10 rows. One guy took all summer 20 hours a week. It normally takes 1 hour for 2 tires unless you use a electric mini jack hammer/ hammer drill.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THIS!!! I am trying to convince my husband to have our next house be an earthship. So far he is not budging.......any suggestions of persuasion???

  • @jesslynn0083 Hi, I haven't found the video yet, but there is one around, about a family living in a LARGE earthship house. Their costs of heating, cooling, water and electricity are , get this: 350 dollars / YEAR.

Take that to the husband, I will try to find the video, but do tell him this might be worth looking into :)

  • @jesslynn0083 Cost the same to build one as a traditional home. If you hire it out that is, best thing of all no utility bills ever again!

  • I would recommend getting a hold of Michael Reynolds from Earthship Biotecture out of Toas, New Mexico. He has lot's of experience building in warm climates like Jamaica and other country's.

  • Im thinking of building a house out of tire but it would be in the philippinese. I know that in america they build houses to have the most so most houses face south. It is very hot here year long you have any ideas for windows to have light but have lowest effect for heat?

  • ....ALONE !!!!.....Wow !! Nice job !

Hom much $ for the whole project ? (start to finish, excluding the land)

  • About $800 in the project so far from what you see on the videos. We have much more on our website. ohiolavenderfarm com

  • @OhioLavenderFarm thanks for posting, these things look bullet prof ... iv been thinking of building my own im a equipment operator and just did a job cleaning up 15000 abandoned tires for the state and there was so much red tape and tires could only go to licensed recyclers ,,, what permits and building codes do u have to deal with id be scared i started stock pileing tires on my lot id get fined ,,,, and i read one code said stick built only any advice

  • I'm in a No Zoned Township, the Earthship has been given agricultural exemption. You would need a permit for a home and we have yet to have a tire foundation code passed. If your happen to be in the country then that is idea.

  • I am also looking at doing the same thing and also in Ohio. Did you guys have to get special permission to build your earthship or have any trouble with regulators or anything like that?

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for posting your earthship videos! Did you guys pack the tires by hand, or with a power tamper?

  • All by hand one guy!! 6months later! A power tamper just doesnt swing like a sledge hammer. I had many of thoughts on making it easier but it just added to down time.

  • That's inspiring.

  • how amny tires do you have there, and how much per tire

  • We have packed just about 700 tires and they are ALL FREE! I visit tire shops and collect them saving them about $3-4 per tire I take. They love me.....but I'm about done with them now. Thanks for the interest!
