The best vocal group of the 40s. Ink Spots are my favorite but Bill Kenny was the star and it was really all about him, DRB would spread the lead around very often. Elmaurice Miller was obviously influenced by Bill Kenny and sounds great on this. I also think Lee Gaines is the best Bass singer. Much better than Jimmy Ricks. Thanks for sharing
Personally, I'm fascinated by the Jazz of the 20's, 30's, 40's and I listen to Hip-Hop and contemporary music. Learn the following groups for example : A Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planet, The Sound Providers or De La Soul, it's great ! We can't judge when you don't know ;)
I'm agree with you on some points but we can't generalize. Music such as Hip-Hop, for example, is extraordinary music, built on the roots of jazz, blues, funk and soul, among others.
Too bad most popular music today is about cop killing, beating women, gangs, violence, rape and drugs....Kids today need to listen to music of the 40s!!
Kids need to listen to anything before 1986. God....ANYTHING. Preferably not top 40 oldies hits (everyone hears them in annoying commercials). The rap, rock, and pop are all so superficial and boring. So mundane. Complacent money making propaganda.
I'm not into 1940's too much unless it's blues or jazz, but DRB are very talented. I wish black groups today felt free enough to be diverse and just come out with this kind of music again instead of the nonpeaceful stuff.
...no it isnt! I listen to hip-hop, R&B and im also in love with this stuff. And i love music of all sorts, and most mainstream music has nowt about cop killing or anything
@Cricketboy1200 I know. Mainstream music is mostly love songs, some sexual some not, and party songs. People who insult hip-hop don't know anything except the stereotypes. Alot of hip-hop is garbage but alot is good too. And the blues is just as violent as hip-hop. There are alot of blues about killing and jazz about getting high.
mockabeez! are you crazy? 1. this is HOW you sing tenor! 2. the DRB's and Mills Brothers were different groups with different styles. Back in that time, it was the SONG that was the hit, not the artist--the record charts sometimes had 4 or 5 versions of the same song popular at the same time, by different artists. This was a great group, in fact they were one of the reasons "doo wop" started (check out "undecided" by them on here). The Mills Brothers were a diff style. This does NOT stink.
Translation of above...They are extraordinary! They bring back me to the happy and full years of hope of the post-war period. Sin that is not successful to find two pieces that they have rendered them famous in Italy between the "boys" of my generation: "Gloria" and "My foolish heart". Someone even put them in net! gliene I would be pleasing for all the life.
yeah, but problem is, Clinton Holland joined in 1944, and left in 1945. True this is 1944, however this is the same guy as in previous videos in previous years, which was Elmaurice Miller.
What a great version, better than the recording they made of "Paper Doll" for Armed Forces radio. This is a clip from a film starring Ozzie and Harriet. The soundie of the Mills Brothers doing this while Dorothy Dandridge is shown as a miniature doll dancing is also a delight.
This is so great I love it! This jazz in the war time makes me feal nostalgic. To think so a nice time and good and happy music in such a time. Beautiful! 5/5 + Faved
