When I was 13, I went to this rural school in Australia and I was accepted in this prestigious artists' workshop in the city. I then realised that it would cost $400 to go and I knew my mum couldn't afford it.

When my older brother found me crying he said not to tell mum and he'd call up the workshop to try and get me in for free. I only found out a couple of years ago that he'd actually spent all his savings on paying for me to go! Big brothers are the best in the world.

My older Brother committed suicide last year, just before my sister’s wedding, where I had to give a speech.

I couldn’t really be bothered dancing round the topic, so just played it for laughs, with lots of jokes about him ‘hanging around’, being a real ‘swinger’ & ‘at the end of his tether’. Never liked the guy anyway!

To be honest it didn’t go down too well- there was a big row afterwards & my family have barely spoken to me since. But I regard it as their fault for letting me loose.

Turf Lodge- a Republican area which would have seen a lot of violence at the time of this story.Irish Republican emblems are seen in the background of this film, the Irish tricolour, map of ireland, dove etc. The Gaelic word Poblachtánach which features is "Republican" in English.
