@MrGamewiz22 it's a murder mystery told through multipul perspectives, each perspective is divided into story arcs wich are 4 episodes long each, as such every 4 episodes the story starts over so the viewer can get the hole story when the charecters can't. it takes place in early 1900s in a contrey town were a bizzare murder pattren happans the same time every year as it seems the town has it's dark secrets, like silent hill but with mentaly desterbed chilldren instead of monsters

To at least two characters in Umineko, the time looping and constant murder in both...is a GAME. And as for the psychotic characters...sure, Rena and Shion do pull off brilliant slasher grins, i still think Umineko is utterly chilling in this regard, in particular Maria. Who not only is younger, but has no reason to be psychotic. THAT is terrifying

Also it is because I am seeing Higurashi as influenced by the Japanese superstitions, which make me jump, , while I have seen a lot of movies like Umineko and do not give me chills. Moreover, Umineko, for some reason, makes me feel like I am in CLOCK TOWER, which was horribly scary.

@jainituos Oh, i'm not saying Higurashi ISN'T scary, and certainly, from a Japanese point of view, it's potentially terrifying...But from a Western point of view (that is, My own), Umineko is far, far more shocking. Because Higurashi is very much a series based around sporadic flashes of violence, and between that winds up the tension. Umineko is...just beyond the pale. Violent, both physically and psychologically...it's nightmarish, and that's what makes it so disturbing IMHO. (yes, Bernkastel)
