One of the arguments for the abandonment of trams for buses was that "trams hold up traffic". Forty or fifty years of experience since has taught us that traffic is perfectly capable of holding itself up with no help from trams.
It's not my layout so I can't give exact details, however I can see a lot of buildings I recognise from the Vollmer, Faller, Kibri, Walthers & DPM range, most of which you can find by going to those manufacturers websites (or in the walthers online catalogue). If you google "city classics structures", "chooch enterprises ultra scale" , "lunde studios" and "cmr custom model railroads" you'll find some more buildings that would fit in with this layouts style.
Sydney's Trams in 1945 handled 400million passenger-trips. Today's cityrail network barely handles half that. Shame on the NRMA for pressuring the government to dismantle the second-largest tram network in the British Empire!
I filmed the layout at an exhibition so can't help with specifics, however if you do a google on "weico models" you'll find some Australian trams that would be featured on the layout.
Beautiful! I used to go to those events when I was a kid at Sydney's Town Hall. I do remember someone having a Sydney Tram layout too. Very nice thanks for putting that up.
Where was this taken? Is this at the Sydney Tramway Museum at Loftus?
I also think that Sydney should never have gotten rid of its trams and should be doing everything possible to rebuild a large modern light rail network.
Cool!

It was so lame that Sydney got rid of its trams. It was once one of the largest systems in the world.

Are the trams kits or scratchbuilt?
Cheers,

Probably a mixture of kits and scratchbuilt. Weico make some tram kits that more than likely feature on the layout.

who would want MLR trams??? Just get a German or European Low floor tram and kit bash it until it resembles a MLR Tram
***NOTE*** MLR stands for Metro light rail

Sydney would be probably better than Melb if it didn't get rid of its large tram network.
What street(s)in Sydney is that model based upon?

No idea which area(s) its modelled on unfortunately.

Great looking layout - the buildings certainly do give the impression of a big city.

The movie was filmed at the Hobsons Bay (Melbourne)model railway exhibition in 2005.
