Makes me feel uncomfortable watching the great Chopin being played by someone wearing a short sleeved shirt......on youtube.....AND reading the comments made by and audience with an I.Q. of 188, but the maturity of a three year old.
@Fuckhead274 can't take you seriously when your name is "fuckhead274"
In respect to Rafal, this was an amazing performance of both preludes. I figured this would be ideal to help me work on the No.14 Prelude better, giving me a proper example.
@TwelfthRoot2 Strange polyrhythms, balancing the repetitive A flat/G# so it sounds insistent but not annoying, peaking emotion and dynamics at the right time during the C# minor portion....I'd say this is a very technical piece for the tempo.
@ihaveacar There are surely lots of wrong ways to play any piece - you haven't heard me playing!. I think you meant this is one of the very good ways.
Even Horowitz didn't sound this good on the "raindrops" prelude. Magnifico! Your dynamics and tone are well controlled yet with utmost passion. Superb!
A rare star arising! He is in the league of Argerich, Pollini, Kissin and Leif Ove Andsnes. Great playing! He captures the storm and the peace well. An atmospheric recording. What elegance, power under control, wit, grace and lyricism!
he has amazing technique and sense for chopin music, but for this particular piece I, as in my own opinion, like it when the more dramatic part of the song is played slowly. other than that, this is just further reason of why he won the international chopin competition.
I think PiotrK has right. By ff and fff the modern Steinway is not always beautiful.
Especially the Steinway's made in the V.S. are very sharp, maybe while the concerthalls there are twice so big as in Europe. By playing pp and p the Steinway is beautiful. I have at my home a Schimmel 2.10 meter and like very much the romantic sound. Also when I play fff it remains beautiful.
Certainly the most interesting No. 14 I've heard yet. I really like the over-romanticized playing, and the tempo he takes it at. 15 is beautiful as well, one of my favorites.

En tant que pianiste jouant actuellement ce morceau, je ne peux qu'aimer :)

I've never seen a pianist this good at his age. I know this isn't a very technical piece, but he is displaying everything perfectly. Very impressive.

the no.14 is FINALLY at one of the most "appropriate" tempos!
Chopin wrote "Allegro", while all pianists play this piece like a presto or prestissimo.

Enough with the over romantic bullshit.

On the section that starts at three minutes, it would sound so much better if he put more emphasis on the downbeat.
