  • hey Jim, what do you think the main problem for the 7400s jamming is?

  • I have heard I should be careful shooting new ammo through my grandfathers old deer gun. Its a 50's model 742 woodsmaster. What do you think? And do those have the rotating bolt head(like in the video), that if not properly installed will fire, but not eject the shell casing?

  • @fromtherye Let me make a correction. Going by the serial number and info from the web, it was manufactured sometime between 1960 and 1967.

  • You are the man, thanks for the video.

  • the video was an excellent training aide. I have just purchased a Remington 742 semi auto, and everyone says it is too much of a pain to keep the gun clean. I enjoyed the video. I wish the sound was better.

  • I bought a remington 7400 in 308 caliber and the gun doesn't cycle properly. It doesn't even properly eject. I tried switching mags and it still won't work. What could be my problem. Great video by the way

  • Brownell's doesn't have the wrench any longer. I called this Monday and looked on the internet too. I haven't checked "Jack First" yet, cause I used a modified adjustable wrench and it worked. Good video man.

  • @Arwrologist That's OK, I don't have the proper wrench either. I ground out a cheap combo wrench to fit the nut, and that's what I use on these guns.

  • @downeastgunworks My apoligies for the wrong info about the Rem. 742 barrel nut wrench. Brownell's does have it, and I have no idea how I missed it and why the lady said they didn't have it. She must have ment they were out of stock. Here is the part # and retail price. Part # 590-012-742 cost is $32.95. They are made of hardened 4140 steel. Thanks for the fine video too! Johnny

  • Thank you all I knew was it is a Remington 7400!

  • Good work, Jim.

    Semper Fi

  • Awesome video Jim! You are a master at your craft and thank you for your service in the Marine Corp!

  • Thanks for the video, Mr. Green, it was awesome!

I've got a question: as far as I know, 750s are quite new, but I thought maybe you already handled a few. What's your opinion about the build quality of the 750?

Have you encountered any problems with them?

  • @atokombeled

The 750 is an improved version of the 7400. They finally worked out a lot of the bugs that seemed to plague the older models.

  • @downeastgunworks

    Thank you for the answer!

  • @downeastgunworks excellent video thank you. can you elaborate on the "bugs that plagued the older models?" (7400). Thanks.

  • i have this gun in 270. and use it deer hunting im 13

  • Thank You

  • Great video and very informative!

I have 2 questions for you on the 7400. I have one in 30-06.

1.When the barrel is reinstall back to the action, will I need to check the headspace?

    2. Can I purchase a different barrel in .270 and replace the 30-06 into the action without using go no-go gauge?

  • @oldspice4002 ALWAYS a good habit to check headspace when you take off a barrel and reinstall it. You can take any short cuts with your personal guns you want to, but I recommend against it. Use the proper go - no go guages. It might save you some pain and heart ache later.

  • Great video! I'm in AZ with a 7400, .270. I had cycling problems but fixed them with a new, more expensive clip. But now my problem is that cycling puts a dent in the lead tip of the bullet and often scratches the brass on the round being cycled into the chamber. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • i need a good scope monte for the 7400 wich i can use for long range can you help me? if you sent me the phone nomber wich i can call from germany so i can speak with you abaut the diteals!!!

  • @yardcontrol Sure ! You can contact Brownell's in Montezuma Iowa. 1 - 800 - 741 - 0015. They're going to be the first choice.... OR Midway USA. 1 - 800 - 243 - 3220

  • Bel video, complimenti dall'Italia.-

  • Great video could you do a second one on what you use to clean the gun with and re-assembly?

  • @ADP4598 I'll start making some short videos about proper gun cleaning soon. Look for them on the website

  • I am looking for a custom cocking handle for my 7400 carbine and i cant seem to find one anywhere. I would like to have a little more meat to grab on to since i have big sausage fingers. Any ideas where one may be available?

  • @z71tina That's something I may be able to machine here. Call the shop and ask!

  • thanks for the video. Helped me out alot!

  • Thanks for the video, i have bit of "wobble" in my cocking handle, is this normal for a 7400?

  • Great instructions thank-you much

  • Great video, Jim!

It really helped me make the decision to buy a 7400 / 30.06. I was hesitant to purchase one because of all the bad publicity(jamming due to dirt) surrounding this particular model.

I'm confident that with the help of your excellent instructions I'll have no problem keeping the rifle clean and shooting reliably.

    Semper Fi!

  • Great video. Thanks i learned alot. I'm going to inherit one of these guns in the future from my dad :) Just researching everything so i know what to do :)

  • Best video on that gun , thanks for the tips.

  • Thank you so much for the video it was very informative

  • @xreddeadx No problem, thank you for watching!

  • thank you for the video it has been very helpful

  • @levisfords Thanks for watching!
