It seems you stated that 68,000 deer were wounded in 2008 in Wisconsin. That figured came from Keith Warnke from the Wi DNR. He also "estimated" 453,000 were harvested in 08. It is hard to estimate when tags are turned in. Then again Mr. Warnke is a state emp. that can't connect the dots maybe.

This information is tainted because the WI DNR did a terrible job of anything resembling deer management in 08 and has been called on the carpet in Madison.

The DNR doesn't do the management, it might be approved by them but not done by them. At least in WI this is true. The DNR decides how much an area can hold for deer population and go from there. Actually WI has had way too many deer the last few years. They have been selling a ton of extra tags to knock the population down not increase it. The DNR may do some management in low population states but in states like WI where there is 1.4 to 1.8 million they are trying to get the numbers down.

Why are we so concerned with how much a land can hold a deer. ? We should be concentrating on using deer birth control and keep a healthy and safe amount of deer (not in abundance for hunting purpose). Then also maybe each state should work on better signs for road and fences. You will see dramatic decrease in death from deer Vehicle Accidents. BUT so long as we have hunting, they want abundance of deer to kill and with compensatory rebound effect as well there will always be "too many deer"

I bet the public does not know that the size of many hunted animals gotten smaller like certain species of bear , elks and whitetails. Yes the antler may still be huge because sports hunter are so busy with their food plots, supplement feeding to create big boned antlered deer but body wise they are smaller. Why don't you make a video of "starving to death " deer and also deer falling to hands of pretadory animals (which I have seen tons of ). The reason man has to let the deer "lay up and die" is that if they make any noise such as getting down from their grimy tree stand and trampling on the grass it would spook the wounded deer to run further. Bowhunters cannot carry guns so if they run that means they have to search further or lose the animals so the animal end up to suffer and die. Man don't have the speed to catch animals because man are meant for plants (plants don't run).

Where I live is not of an importance to you whether I live in a Condo with a pool or a little in a small house near the woods it does not justify the lethal killing of animals in any means wither with hired sharp shooters or with bows and arrows. The deer is in abundance because of the hunting industry creating large deer herd for recreational purpose.
