Am I the only person on here under the age of 30? Im 14 and it seems like the only people who appreciate good music any more are like twice my age. At least.
@CarolynManson97 I'M 15!!! And me and my friends are an alienated little group who still appreciate awesome music like the Cure,Bowie,Joan Jett, etc. We need more like us,huh?
@CarolynManson97 I am sure when the cure was popular, people listened to the cure, and not the music from 20 years ago; same as now. Of course most young people will choose the music of the present, and not the past, it is stupid to even complain about that. I could have simply insulted you, because there is always one kid on old song videos who thinks he/she is special due to her liking of older music, it is rather annoying, but I figure I would be nice and break it down for you instead.
@CarolynManson97 BTW, plenty of kids your age listen to music from the 90s, 80s, and beyond. You aren't simple, not trying to mean, but you really are not. Every person goes through this phase thinking they are so different. You will eventually wise up.
a girl I knew back in high school gave the vinyl ep with this song on it to me as a sort of present....I havin't seen her in many years now so hearing this again is a lament indeed..
the cure sings the truth....and that is why they amaze us. that is why they still have fans. they sound like no other. no one will ever recreate what they are. hats off to them. other bands may get close to being what they are, were, but in my opinion there is only one cure, one band that sings every emotion out there, and this is why i love them.
When I watched this, I felt so at ease with my acceptance of dying. This is so peaceful and gloomy at the same time. I wish I had more to feed my troubled mind
@sianpunkrockgirl That would be neat, but I can find no mention of such a river in France (although there is a river called Cure). Please post a link if you have a reference! en.wikipedia. org/wiki/List_of_rivers_of_France
I'm sorry you will not like this if you think your a cure fan and all you have is the greatest hits. This is actually one of thier greatest songs ever!!! You must hear all their music over 26 albums!!! to really appreciate it, this is absolutely my favorite song. It just moves me every time, the music the lyrics so different, each song will have different meanings and to each person
Have of the American population over 30 doesn't know what Lament means. But if you listen to the Cure all Robert's songs will teach you language and meaning. Their is no other artists that truly uses his lyrics to encite thought.
I like how the person who wants to school us about what Lament means, doesn't know the difference between "half" and "have", "there" and "their", and misspelled incite.
Since its release in '83 Japanese Whispers has always been my favorite, especially Lament. Glad it wasn't just released to the Japanese market as RS had initially intended.
This song truly just comes in and touches my heart and soul on such a deep level!! This is truly a mesmerizing and haunting song!! Such pure Cure magic!! I have loved The Cure for 27 years now and they have never ceased to amaze me with all the beauty in their songs and melodies!!! The Cure is truly a phenomenal band and Robert is an absolute amazing soul!! A true poetic genius!! I love it all !! The Cure forever in my heart!! ♥
@peartfaldo its more of a Ep not an album, and its included on Joining the Dots Box-set, filled with Demos, unreleased tracks, B-sides and live rarities spanning the cures 1st 23 years of music it's not exactly a greatest hits compilation either but If your a die-hard fan, or just a frequent listener then the Box-set is definitely for you
For sure...this song seems coming so far away in my own personal memory...directly to the middle of the 80' s when I was teenager...
On that song...there is - for sure - Robert SMITH and The Cure...but don' f forgett also the other man behind that pure treasure...the famous producer
Steve NYE...- Penguin Café Orchestra...JAPAN' s band...and his charismatic singer...David SYLVIAN..., Steve NYE was the producer of TIN DRUM - the last JAPAN LP...and Brillant Trees...the first D.S...LP
This song is both beautiful and haunting for me. I played both this and Plainsong repeatedly while dealing with my Mother's illness and ultimate passing. It will forever remind me of that time and her. Thanks Robert.
One of their greatest songs ever. Not only is it well written, but it is sung with an emotion and intensity very few other artists can replicate. The Cure is the greatest band of all time.
That bass is totally Robert's style. He wrote everything on Seventeen seconds and lots of the basslines on Faith and pornography. He did Lament on his own. In my opinon, one of the greatest songs ever writen.
Anybody who can write a song like one is, to my mind, touched with something very few of us can understand. It is a little known song, I admit, but pure pure pure genius!! This is The Cure that I fell in love with 20 years ago!!
@Erickaf its powerful enough to break ones heart every time.....i always give into crying before its over but maybe thats because i miss certain things...but your right....."oh the smell as candles die"
This is still one of his most beautiful songs ever....wow this brings me back to my younger days whenI was so involved in the gothic world & driving around in my MGB convertible in LA & Hollywood..fun memories..but time goes bye so quickly...
well "necromancer" darkwave is actually techno music with gothic lyrics. Joy Division and the Cure are very Gothic. And Gothic is used today but it was also used in the 80s to describe a kind of dark post punk. so don't fucking try and get smart with me because you read a page from wikipedia you need to stop being so small minded.
because the modern day Cue fans are mainly a bunch of awful pricks wearing THE UNIFORM OF NON-CONFORMITY.
The Cure WERE post-punk. There were 'gothic punks' in the UK in the early to mid eighties.
It had fuck all to do with self-harming, satan, industrial music, shooting up your school or being a self obsessed bully victim or any of that humourless crap.
Anything that happened after this period in other countries is irrelevant.
robert's melodic voice and those chilling guitar chords tingle my insides producing such a euphonic sound...man i love The Cure...thank you for posting Luis =]

Japanese Whispers is such an over looked Cure album. Thanks so much for posting this video, Its impossible to pick a favorite cure song, but this one may very well be in my top 3, I just love "One more ice cream, river body, flowed underneath the bridge", I can visualize it so perfectly, seen from on top of the bridge, her body looking like a melting ice cream optical illusion from the water...
