  • This is gross.

  • lol THEN YOU ALL REMEMBER YOUR IN BAND AND THAT PURELY LAME!

  • Very Bad!!!!! Elsie Allen's Band could totally kick Santa Rosa's Band at this song anyday!!!! We are hella better!!

  • Played this in my wind band (Hampshire Youth Wind Band). It was sooo good. we had a full choir ect for the begining. It is good but it doesnt have a "finished" feel.

  • OMG!! This is the first show I did for marching band! I had never heard it before or since...I wish I knew where to find the vid so I could upload it...

btw, we got 6th at BOA for the show.

  • hehe, this song is good but sounds bad when played by these warriors... very very sad

  • you should really go see our band before you bash. this is youtube. a recoreded version of the piece. obviously it won't sound as well as it did live

  • I have never heard such a poor performance. Please listen the the performance op psalm 150 (a fanfareband from the netherlands)

  • The Trumpetsolo in beginning is horrible!!!!!! :-O

  • You really have to come and see and hear us live before makign any judgements about the piece...then do it to this, we kicked danzon no.2's ass, and i freaking dispise the piece now since we played it at every venue in spain and portugal.. it would blow your mind out fo your ear.. HAHAH VIOLAS KICK ASS!!!

  • its a great challenging piece... my band (NTU Symphonic Band Singapore) will be playing it for a concert in a few weeks time... exciting...

  • I now know the composer of the piece; Edward Gregson.

  • Who is the composer of this piece? Also, what are the lyrics to the singing? When I made All-State Band, one of the other bands played this song and I didn't understand the lyrics then and I didn't now! Also, in regards to the oboes, the oboe solo in the second section, sounds much better than the duet section in the beginning.

However, the flutes in the second section when they take over the melody that was played by the alto sax ealier was COMPLETELY out of tune!

  • requiem aeternam dona eis domine

  • Well, if you're talking about when the oboes re representing the french army in the march they are purposefully playing dreadfully out of tune...

  • one more thing i know you will say again it is the video. Rule 1 get rid of the cluster F***S i dont think you are getting Superiors for making mistakes so on that note fix all problems no matter how small they are. I do hope you guys figure this out, i work as a professional musician and if settled for making mistakes and not fixing i would not make any money ever. again no disrespect keep up the hard work

  • sorry to have to disagree with you but i dont think no matter how many superiors you get does not mean that there is perfection. The oboes for example when the march happens they are so flat so dont say it is the tape. Its the car not the driver. not trying to dis you ok just giving a professional observation hope to see you in the money making world

  • hmm...we have 40 years of superior ratings...

oh my gosh? did you just get raped? i think you did.

  • don't you dare say a word about the oboes. it says IN THE MUSIC for the oboe players to play just a few phrases imitating raushenpfifen (sp?), by playing with the ENTIRE reed in their mouth. It's supposed to sound horrible!! it's imitating the french army, as an insult. (haha) if you want proof that our oboes CAN play, listen to the last oboe solo. it's absolutely amazing.

  • Well the oboes did do a good job of sounding terrible.

  • read the sheet music before you say anything. the oboes are imitating rauschfifen (sp?), and it is written in their parts to play with the entire reed in their mouth. they are SUPPOSED to sound like that. if you hear the rest of the piece, example the oboe solo in the end (other video) you can tell that our oboists were quite talented.

  • obviously didnt't understand anything I was trying to say about low qualiy audio.

  • just checking back, and yep...still sounds like crap.

  • You played for george bush...

WE PLAYED IN A GOTHIC CATHEDRAL IN BARCELONA

but the inagural parade thing is nice too...

  • O gosh...

okay...little lesson in audio recordin for all of you. Most video cameras don't have the highest quality audio thereby reducing the quality of sound of any music captured on said video camera...you really should take into account the low quality audio before you go insulting all our players

The bad audio seems to especially effect the brass...as aforementioned maybe you should see us live before saying we suck...

  • a marching band..??

  • GOD ITS TERRIBLE!

  • ok, well let me put our band up to theirs, playing the same song, and you decide who is better

  • oh wow...back off there you Santa Rosa Higher! They're from Louisiana, and they played for Mr. George W Bush! which in no way competes with being one of the most renowned highschool bands in California who is about to go on a 14 day tour of the Iberian Peninsula. I envy you Mr Holmes. YALL are too good.

Sorry youtube sound blows, maybe you and your other screen names should make your way out to beautiful California and, in person, open your ears to hear an incredible highschool band.

  • no, we are definitely from louisiana and we are in the band that represented louisiana in the 55th presidential inaguaral parade so you can just shut your mouth

  • Good Day SRHS. We actually used an ENGLISH HORN for the ENGLISH HORN solo! Our trumpet players dont sound like they are from the 7th grade! But it was ok.

  • Don't even get me started on the recorder part...wow. Try again guys, perhaps with another piece...that fits the talent level that you guys have. I have nothing more to say.

  • you know the oboe part says "rauschpfeifen" not "suckpfeifen"

  • I like how all of these posts are made on the same day with a bunch of accounts that are blank...

Someone has too much time on their hands.. hes probably from montgomery or maria carillo... Too jealous that he can't go to spain

  • Umm...this sounds like death. SPEED UP! TEMPO TEMPO TEMPO! Good job "english horn" aka alto sax. I don't understand how you have a freakin Contra Bassoon but no English Horn...just a thought. Trumpets, switch to like tambourine or something, you sound horrible.

  • Use a metronome, it helps keep tempo. But that may be too advanced for this organization...find your pitch center first. TUBAS, the open fifths sound like a train wreck, umm..try again. After listening to this, the oboe has acquired a new name, the OH NO!

  • I don't even know where to start...Perhaps the two offstage trumpet parts...OMFG! What were you guys thinking?! If you're going to play a piece that requires singing, make sure you have TALENTED musicians in your band. ATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERNNAAAAAAAAAAM! GOOD JOB...just kidding.

  • yeah, after the clarinet solo at 8 minutes and 23 seconds the trumpets completely shaft that heralding part.

way to miss the A and hit a G.

  • Well, I don't think youtube sound really helps out any of the soloists, especially brass.

  • good god i would be embarassed to say i was in that concert.

our band is playing that for festival and we completely blow you guys out of the water

  • I was in that concert...hi wardlaw!

  • 1st offstage trumpet (clarify)

  • Woo! I'm totally the first trumpet on this piece. We did an awesome job. Oh yeah, and for the next concert, wardlaw, you should wear your tux coat.

  • The composer instructs the oboes to sound like rauschpfeifen to represent the French Army. It's an effect, and they don't sound like that in any other part of the piece. It's a grade 5.

  • moseleych-

Of course the oboes sound "terrible." The composer instructs them to simulate raucous rauschpfeifen by inserting their entire reeds in their mouths. This sound is the not-so-flattering characterization of the advancing French Army. If you'll notice, they didn't produce that sound in the rest of the piece. This work is a grade 5.

  • God those oboes sound terrible. No offense. What grade difficulty is this piece? I heard this piece performed by the ECU wind ensemble.
