I disagree with Simon. Randy and Paula recognized David's unique rendition, taking a known theatrical song and changed it to a pop ballad.

Simon deliberately downplayed David's creativity and cut him down with "one of your weak performance, forgettable..." to lower others' praise.

Even Andrew Lloyd Webber said David has a musical soul and is creative noting how David changed the song into his own. That is so rare that "we should all say bravo" Andrew Webber knew what ai show is about.

David's version of Imagine puts Lennon to shame. Imagine has to be one of the least emotional songs in the entire rock genre. Archuleta put more emotional muscle into that tune than Lennon ever thought of doing. It was a great perfomance.

Where do people get the idea that a pop singer can out-perform a theatrical singer? Time and again David Archuleta has out-performed the original artist, but there is no way that he is going to out-perform a diva.

That said, you also have to keep in mind that David A. is performing live, and a movie can cut and splice, and a Broadway performance rehearses for weeks before a performance.

David had a few days. I thought he did a creditable job. But he should have chosen an easier song.
