Define a Conspiacy? I worker at a corp called jabil cirurt corp. and in class they plan out said they make their product too go bad. Then pointed out how whirlpool almost went bankrupt becuase their product was so good and no one bought new ones. So go back too your hole banker lover.
@machwon Dude your retarded they replaced 2 factories with Mexicans and moved them too Mexico. lol you have no clue how a factory works do you? look it up it head quarters is off Giddings in auburn hills mi. road.
@starknight97 You're, not your. headquarters not head quarters. to, not too. This is probably why you got fired. FFS, you can't even spell circuits and you worked at a circuits factory.
@machwon So your a useless grammar teacher lol. Something any computer can do oh your still no smart smart ass. I quit cause i got a subcontract job with Raytheon lol. Oh your so dumb you missed the point that a joke your a joke lol. See it's in your title "Planned Obsolescence". This proves it a real-thing man your stupid.
cases and points dis prove your bs protecting the current system. A 1975 craft 18 horse lawn mower. It still runs and was given away a newer yard man was bought in 1999 and was dead by 2005 the sear law mower had too pick up the work again. Till in 2010 a new industrial law mower was bought. First toaster over last 15 years news 1s maybe 2 years, first VCR still works minus a bad switch. new 1s about 1.5 years. 1985 Monte Carlo lasted 200k miles newer 1995 lasted 55k blow out engine.
This video makes a good point. I watched the Light bulb Conspiracy and the film-makers did themselves a disservice in using light bulbs as the central example of planned obsolescence because modern incandescents and 100-year-old bulbs are apples and oranges. But the film does expose other real examples of this problem which is pervasive in any capitalist society - inkjet printers, ipods, nylon leggings, etc...
@JRP3 Perhaps, but not with light bulbs. Old light bulbs that lasted very long were very dim. These light bulbs are still available for sale but no one wants them because carbon filaments are too dim. Google "Carbon filament light bulb" and you'll see plenty of them for sale that advertise a 100 year life span. Best of luck.
@machwon Watch the movie. There is documentation of collusion between bulb manufacturers to purposely limit the life span of light bulbs. They agreed on standards and fined group members if their bulbs lasted too long.
@JRP3 1. That's not what I'm talking about here. The claim is modern bulbs don't last as long as old bulbs bulbs because of a vast conspiracy.
2. This film is insane batshittery. There was a reason for the 1000hr cap; energy efficiency. A bulb cult of been made to last up to 2,500hrs it was wasting energy like crazy in order to achieve it and it resulted in less light and heat. They did us a favor in that regard.
@machwon Do you really think light bulb manufacturers cared how much electricity people used to keep their bulbs lit up until recently? Besides, it's not just lightbulbs, it's many products that have components designed to fail prematurely.
@JRP3 This is what I'm talking about. you missed the point again. It's not about wasting electricity in that sense, it's about not being able to use that energy for a brighter light. It's not a green initiative, it's a bright initiative. See?
@machwon If that were the only concern why make an industry wide policy about it, enforced with fines? Individual companies could make bulbs as they saw fit and let the consumer decide if brighter was better than longer, if that was indeed a choice that had to be made.
@JRP3 Because that's what cartels do, it's just a way to stifle competition which is what they tired to do until they failed when the Scandinavian light bulb producers ignored their threats and made the bulbs anyways. You got to remember that was one 1 of their rules, they had lots more the film neglects to mention. That's why it's lunacy.
@JRP3 Also my video yanks out the entire premise of the film. Why would these companies volunteer to make LED and CFL lights with far longer life spans if the goal is to get you to keep buying them?
@machwon Well part of the reason is they can charge a lot more for them because they do save the user a lot of electricity as well as last longer, and because governments may mandate their usage. Incandescent bulbs are a pretty wasteful way to create light. Not to mention that many of the "longer lasting" CFL's have died premature deaths, especially the early ones. I've had a few die sooner than incandescents.
Planned Obsolescence is a true problem in howr society.. and yes they can make light bulbs that last for 500 years now with less thin titanium filaments.. they just dont want to do it because it would be extremly expensive for the public.
@pakau Bullshit. Titanium filament light bulbs are for sale and they do not have a 500 year life span because titanium has a lower melting point and lower tensile strength than tungsten.
For bigger profit margins companies will use cheaper materials and cut corners in design reducing product life span.

@TheMigs101 That's why my phone is made with Gorilla Glass and hasn't shattered the hundreds of times I've dropped it? ZOMG is a counter-conspiracy!

@JRP3 1. No, they were developed and sold well before any government mandates. They just sell better now. :P
2. They charge more because the technology is new and requires more capital and demand to produce them cheaper just like any technology. Econ 101.
3. Newer technologies are also less stable, they get better as we learn more. I haven't had this issue with CFLs recently.
