  • nice work, thanks.

  • υπεροχο.....

  • @StaviKallas972:

αυτό είναι ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου

    "professoricon"

  • This is off my favorite VDGG album which is saying something because these guys where brilliant.

  • it always annoys me in a way that they more or less dropped this and pioneers in c live as they are such good tracks , instead of the insistence on continued new stuff that is never quite there, though the creative process generally deteriorates even in the best of artists. maybe one day.....

  • @puddypuss but then, would this song work without jackson? I mean yh, the stuff isnt as gd as this, but i think its no fault of their process, just the lack of a fourth man. tbh, i wouldn't want ot hear this without sax. it would ruin it for me.

  • je craque!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Epic , majestic and still billiant after 40 years...mark of a clasic ^!^

  • Comment removed

  • Fantastic. And you can see how this track lead on to later work....

  • @Orpewise:

I have aso uploaded a live version of this song, from the Weeley festival.

Please check out my other videos.

  • H to He yet apart from Hamills voice nothing real light here. Still its epic mesmeric before trance ever was trance here was trance !

  • Vielen herzlichen Dank für's Hochladen !

  • @wolfXtra00:

Bitte beachten Sie auch meine anderen Videos für mehr vom Gleichen.

  • At some point I lost you, I don't know quite how it was;

The wonderland lay in a coat of white, chilling frost

I looked around and I found I was truly lost:

without your hand in mine I am dead .....

Reality is unreal and games I've tried just aren't the same:

without your smile there's nowhere to hide

    and deep inside

I know I've never cried as I'm about to ... Van Der Great

  • superb stuff, echoes of soft machine 3rd and caravan. saw them many times. emotional stuff. my art tutor told me to come back to it all in 40 years and re-apraise it all. Gladly it still moves me in a way bowie didn't. just personal taste.

  • 3 people need to pull the stick out of their ass....

  • 3 people need to pull the sticks out of their asses......

  • So here we are, or rather, here am I, quite alone;

    I'm seeing things that were shared before, long ago;

my memory stretches and I am dazed.

    You know I know

how good the time was and how I laughed.

Times have changed, now you're far away, I can't complain -

I had all my chances but they slipped right through my hands

    like so much sand

  • The band does not seem whole to me without Jackson's sax parts, it's this combination of timbres that makes the Van Der Graaf sound what it is, at least for me. If I had the cash, I would go reconcile them or give Jackson whatever salary he needs to get back to playing. Not sure what the issue is but it has to be taken care of. Where do I sign a petition? Yes, they ARE a national treasure, maybe the royals can support this cause for the arts? It's sad.

  • Probably my favourite VDGG song.

  • @rjaymoon:

Certainly one of my top five. I just love the desparation and bleakness in the voice and lyric.

  • @rjaymoon:

The music also is just perfection. The sax, the drums, the drama in the faster sections.

  • @rjaymoon

sono d'accordo!!! ci sono tratti di lirismo e poesia che non hanno niente da invidiare a nessuna altra opera d'arte/canzone!!

  • @57ippogrifo:

    ben detto

  • I saw them on the second day of the Plumpton Jazz and blues Festival in summer 1970. I can't remember what they played. Just that i was impressed.

This one reminds me something of that time.

  • Pure Progressive Pwnage.

  • What about Refugees? Whenever I want to introduce VDGG to the uninitiated, I always play that song. It usually blows them away.

  • @66tull: Yep. Refugees is certainly in my top ten (see earlier post): 1. Man-Erg 2. Lost 3. La Rossa 4. Childlike Faith In Childhood's End 5. The Undercover Man 6. A Plaque Of Lighthouse Keepers 7. Afterwards 8. Refugees 9. Necromancer 10. Running Back
  • My own top ten deliberately excludes PH solo songs - VDGG only.

Solo PH is even more difficult, but I suspect most of them would be live versions.

  • My own top ten Peter Hammill songs (performances): 1. The Lie (Live "Skeletons Of Songs") 2. The End (Live SoS) 3. Time heals (Live SoS) 4. Candle (Fool's Mate) 5. (No More) The Sub Mariner (Live "Peel Sessions") 6. Faint Heart and the Sermon (Live "Peel Sessions") 7. Flight (Live "Uptown Theatre, Kansas City, 28-Aug-81") 8. Afterwards (Live "Typical") 9. Refugees (Live SoS) 10. My Favourite (pH7)
  • Number 2 should of course read "In The End".

  • One of my favorite PROGRESSIVE ROCK BAND of all times.

Punk Rock is for lil minds

  • @funkberto But I love both! Music has so many applications, but it all comes from a place of love for SOUNDS and all the different emotions that can come from sound and be expressed by sound. I can't divide styles of music. To me either it is invigorating on some level or it isn't.

  • @msorte

i like too the early Ramones, The Clash, The Jam..only i tried to say ''the people sayin 'Punk not dead', or ''F*** Pink Floyd'' is LIMITED IN HIS MUSICAL HORIZONTS.

By example, i like the real Hip Hop, by to impulse a iconoclast attitude, sampling different sources..

    (excuse my bad english..)

  • @funkberto

    guess you haven't heard Cardiacs?

  • Unlimited energy sources are out there! But the Establishment doesn't want ppl to know this,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,Be the revolution!

  • una voce straordinaria

  • i now never dance like you

  • una meraviglia !!

  • @peppe54:

    vero

  • You're missing "Refugees" and almost all of "Still Life" and "Godbluff".

Though Fripp was on "Pawn Hearts" the later were better!!!!!

  • argentina te ama

  • asi es!

  • vdgg vai durar sempre

  • Unmatched depth of lyric .. to this day. Zzzz Factor Cowell's an obscenity and a disgrace to sonic art such as this ..

  • my top ten in random order: Man-Erg Plague Killer Afterwards White Hammer Lost Scorched Earth House With No Door Ship Of Fools (vital live version) Birthday Special (yeah, that's by Peter Hammill himself)
  • Great selections!

  • @professoricon thanks. However that's not a definitive list 'cause i don't know very well some of their albums yet.

  • My favourite albums are Still Life, Pawn Hearts, and Godbluff

  • @emptyheadbrokenbones Here are mine: 1 LOST 2 MEURGLYS 3 SONGWRITER'S GUILD 3 EMPEROR IN HIS WAR ROOM 4 LIGHTHOUSE KEEPERS 5 A LOUSE IS NOT A HOME 6 MAN ERG 7 LAST FRAME 8 SPHINX ON THE FACE 9 IN THE BLACK ROOM 9 GOG MAGOG 10 HOUSE WITH NO DOOR
  • @RINLEW:

    Good choices.

  • @RINLEW no Theme One? it's easily my favorite song by them. Can't believe you didn't include Lemmings either

  • @seb2112

Can't pick up everything. I love Lemmings and Theme One too. Have you heard the 1967 George Martin original. It is GREAT!!

  • @RINLEW boat of millions year could have make it in your list

  • @RINLEW i will add man-erg in there by the way great list

  • I keep wondering why drummers like this use the "orthodox" grip. It is from a time when military drummers marched with the drum on the left side and it was the only way to get the stick into a position to play the drum. this is un necessary now with the drums placed in front of the drummer, not marching.

  • My top 5:

    Sleepwalkers

    When she comes

    Undercover man

    The Final Reel

    Killers

  • Interesting choices - I shall have to give The Final Reel another listen.

  • awesome!

    just yesterday bought the disc

  • I love it !!! thx

  • Me too.

I would also love to hear a good live version, but the only live versions I have heard have been either incomplete or poor recording quality.

  • What are your top five / top ten VDGG songs?

  • What's your topf five of VDGG?

  • That's a tough question, but my top five / ten in approximate order would be: Man-Erg Lost La Rossa Childlike Faith In Childhood's End The Undercover Man A Plaque Of Lighthouse Keepers Afterwards Refugees Necromancer Running Back What is your top five / ten?
  • My top five:

    -Afterwards

    -Refugees

    -Lost

    -Man Erg

    -Necromancer

The others in my opinion are all equal at the 6 position :P

  • Excellent choices.

  • Classic rock!

  • Video ok

    Music SUPER OK

  • There is no band today compares

  • @jimbronxny

    Yeah and i was born 1991 so i missed the days when vdgg or jethro tull had their prime time )-;

and i hardly find music like this but when i do, im blowin away THIS IS MUSIC

  • @jimbronxny sadly, youre correct. hopefully not for long

  • brilliant !

    this is the modern classic.

  • Can anyone tell me what time signature the jam starting at 2:29 is in? Someone said it was 5/4 but I'm unsure. Great video of an amazing band by the way, thanks.

  • 12/8, spelled 4+3+3+2

  • I guess 6/8.

  • I'd say 12/8 (4+3+2+3 / 8) or (2+2+3+2+3 / 8)

  • Is the original track from H to He? Or did you modify it? Just askin'.

  • I had forgotten about that. I cut short the ending so that it would upload successfully, because I could not get the full version to upload. The missing section of about approximately 35 seconds is slightly repetitive, and you can hear from this that it was all but finished anyway.

  • To answer your question in full -yes it is the original from H to He.

  • I just checked and the original fades out at around 11.07.

  • oh! If I could just frame the words.......

Great video clip! How we were young and beautiful!

  • Eternal!

p.s. H to He is nuclear FUSION (:

  • Thanks - now updated.

  • fantastic song the whole "h to he " is the same

  • this song is so good it gives goosebumps, nice video clisp too!

  • I love VdGG but it's hard to find a live performance of favourite song Black Room ... :-(

Anyway, thanx for the video :-)

  • my fav band ever. todays music is too false bring back instruments

  • I agree that most music today is pathetic but there still some bands doing their own thing and with some good musicianship. Check out The Mars Volta, Protest The Hero or even Between the Buried and Me if ur into heavier stuff

  • i certainly will i like a my music a bit heavy

  • Amazing song, very beautiful. This album one of the best Van Der Graaf Generator

  • agghhh, the Belgian TV screen shot had me thinking "outtake". Oh well. Great song anyway.

  • am already fan from the early beginning

  • ika7000 is dumb dumb dumb... I got to admit that I got excited tinking this was a live performance, but I guess it doesn't hurt listening to one of my favourite songs. Thanks for the video, keep the good work.

"I looked around and found I was truly lost. Without your hand in mine, I am dead" The lyrics in this song are amazing

  • H to he is one of my favorites too. although i am a little partial to pioneers over c.

  • I have a live version of Pioneers Over C, live at Eric's club in Liverpool dated 15-5-1978, but the quality is not great. I have been to Eric's and it is the smallest music venue I've ever visited. The recording has a lot of crowd noise, but I was totally flabbergasted to learn that VDGG would ever have played there. I saw the Dead Birds there and it was an incredible night. I have just checked the CD and I can post it here for you in the next few weeks.

  • The version of Pioneers Over C is over 16 minutes long, so I shall have to split it.

  • hey there professor. you can just post photos with pioneer... I think it's worse to see a poor quality video, especially when it's VDGG, i just recently watched -whatever would Robert have said--posted recently; killer video. i wish every VDGG video was like that. We also could use some--white hammer or after the flood. Just asking ;)

  • Oh man, that's an amazing song too!!! And what about the emperor in his war room? I was so happy when I knew that Robert Fripp contributed in this song, because I am a huge Crimson fan, but I have to admit now that I like VdGG as much as KC.

  • there's absolutely nothing I could add to your statement !!!!!!!

  • Watch my channel for some more live performances - many more to come including some real treats. I posted this album version because it's a favourite of mine that I believe deserves wider recognition.

  • Excellent thanks a lot!!!

  • So you are posting lots of songs and just one video - the same footage (effects and filters) over and over again...I respect your efforts but what s the point in this? I see Jackson in Leverkusen (2005) while listening to Necromancer. Why this chaos? Faire découvrir?...uhm...I think the essence of the Generator is the impossible equilibrium of voice/lyrics/music in a single song/suite and a video should show us only this wreck - in real time, in live performance.

  • The point is the music. It is all about the music by a favourite band. Forget the video - this is my amateur effort. Perhaps you would prefer a blank screen - just listen to the music.

By the way, every one of my videos is different, without exception, but I admit many are very similar, and they take a very long time to edit. Every one is a different length, different pictures (although similar), different captions, and different music.

  • Whatever...

If you paste &fmt=18 at the end of the URL and refresh, the track will play in stereo.

"Oct 14 - Phoenix Concert Theatre, Toronto

15 Octobre - Palais Montcalm, Québec

16 Octobre - Le Gesu, Montréal

Plus de détails ... et peut-être une finale quelques dates supplémentaires ... suivront très prochainement. "

  • This is off my first VDGG album & is still one off my favourite tracks. Thank you for posting it.

  • Thanks so much for posting this professoricon

  • Your comments are most welcome.

Please check out my other videos.

  • H to He is actually Nuclear Fusion... :)

  • i listen the mars volta too, but the old VDGG are aristocrats in progressive music. and peter hammill a lord.

  • reposting videos with unrelated music. very poor. stop the spamming please. when I search for vdgg i dont want to waste my time with this.

  • This is not unrelated.

    And how is this spamming?

    Please explain.

Please check out my other videos for some real VDGG/PH treats.

  • Come on how does that need explaining. Take videos available to everyone (as long as no one spams us anymore). Music (copyrighted)we should all know. Make any kind of combination (90s hammill and early 70s music). Jeez.

  • How is this spamming?. I have posted a video/music that people want to hear, and sent you nothing. How is this unrelated? The music and the video are both related to one another, both related to the heading, and both related to vdgg and ph. I see that you are a new member - you have a lot to learn. Please show some respect and stop slating other members.

  • well professoricon you've made at least 356 people happy with this montage. feel free to do the entire H to He album, nothing like listening to pioneers over c, on a sunday morning.

  • awesome. not just a favourite of vdgg but one of the greatest songs of all time from anyone

  • That song is my favorite of the album, but the album itself is really good. Thanks.

  • Agreed - this is my favourite from the album, but also one of my all-time favourites from VDGG. Also check out the solo PH version of 'emperor in his war room' from the album 'skeleton of songs' that I posted (also originally from 'H To He').

  • thanx!

  • You Did a Gread Job

    as Alweys ;)

    Respect From Michal Sz.

  • never had and never will be a band like VDGG...the greatest band of all times!!!!!!

  • yeah they're ok, lol. it's nice to see a fellow enthusiast.i use vdgg songs or as screen names you usually never get the " that name is already being used" :)-- peace

  • "I wore my moods like different sets of clothes,

but the right one was never around,

and as you left I heard my body ring and my mind began to howl"

  • "looking out through the tears that blind me,

my heart bleeds that you may find me,

or at least that I can forget and be numb,

but I can't stop, those words still come ...

    I love you ... "
