@phoney33 Well, it depends. :) Usually weapons' stances are directly taken from the- let's call them hand-to-hand fighting - stances (see a demonstration of Tai Chi without a sword and you'll see what I mean). If one know the form without a sword, learing to use this weapon isn't hard at all. BUT as I mentioned - you have to know the forms first. And that isn't easy at all.
Thanks Taicjitsao! Zhongkui Raises Sword and Luatian Tames the Dragon totally worked for me in an epee fencing bout. Swallow Pecks at Mud also scored me an ankle point. Such a beautiful art form, I am glad to see that it has practical applications... and although I made no reaction and said nothing about it, the look on my opponets face was priceless.
Yes, this Chen style tai chi sword is more practical in application directly. It is easy to understand and easy to learn! Thank you for like my video.
Thank you for the beautiful demonstration, I have a couple questions: are you using a flexible jian for demonstration purposes, or is there some advantage in training with flexible sword? Also, do you recommend a particular length or size of tassel for a beginer? Thanks again, -ryan
Yes, tai chi practice sword is a little flexible. It is not allowed to show the real weapon sword in the public in the USA. The sword length should be about 3.3 feet long. It can be a little longer if you are above 6'2", or a little short if you are under 5' 3".
Yes, this is the Traditional Chen Style Tai Chi Sword from Chen Village. Chen Zhenglei will be in my home the next week. I am hosting him a two days workshop here in San Diego! :-)
Do you remember different forms, like "white snake spits the tongue" and "black dragon whips tail", and other various representations, and randomly construct a routine, or does it have set of form you follow everytime?
I love you video and your technique is clearly excelent, however i hope you would agree that originally the sword was used for combat. I agree the Tai Chi is more spiritual.
You are right, originally sword was used to fight and self-defense. Sword's fighting purpose was less and less when the firearm started. Nowadays, sword is more like an old art, but we still have self-defense use in this routine.

i like chen style beacuse its faster, i dont have much pacience for practing taichi because of the slow dificult moves, but its very healthy and great fighting way too, most people belive its just exercises. very nice vid, keep posting more =](sry bad eng)

It is a set of forms into a routine. This is a traditional routine. You should not change it in different way.

why would you use a sword if its not meant for combat.
littlejohn54 4 years ago
Training the body's energy flow. Sword is just the extension of our body.
