This reenactment depicts the noble-women and more well off women to be what we (quite wrongly) consider to be beautiful; stick-thin. Whereas, in reality, they were overweight and pimply-faced...
crazy how everything could be peacefull no wars and prosperous and with a blink of an GONE! war violence etc. a good example of how god can give just as much as he can take!
@ArugalSwe I most definitely would! :D But, if the person didn't know the town they lived in was being attacked, that would be pretty scary. Hmm, I guess a dead body flying threw your window is scary either way.

@kzam717 I agree that flea is the vector, no issue with that idea. But my two points were that Yersinia Pestis epidemic started in Europe spread eastward and bubonic plague on board a ship would have killed every sailor and sunk the ship before seeing land during a transcontinental voyage.
@levine96629ify It is strange that it would make it across on a ship IF the boat sank. Boats at this time wouldn't just sink spontaneously, never have they done that either. So if the entire crew is killed, then it would drift on the waves and end up somewhere where the fleas would spread out. I'm not trying to be a doctor, but please use common sense. @painoftheheart12 Ship can sink by running a ground, capsize by sailing perpendicular to gust wind, overturned by sailing parallel to large ocean waves, or collision with other vessels during the night. Finally, any small leak must be repaired immediately by an able crew, else flooding.
@levine96629ify Now, these ships were sent within the Mediterrannian sea and the boats would be sent at a certain time where the winds would be favorable. Once they run aground . . . oh wow, do you now know contradictory that is? Once they run aground IT'S ON LAND!! Hence the ship cannot sink! Also, getting hit with another ship would be a rare occassion since what idiot would take the same exact route to and from their location. Look at the trade maps of the time, NO ONE DID. . . . .
@painoftheheart12 My comment is in response to another blogger who supported the video's position that the plague originated from FarEast and was transported by ship to Europe by African coastal route. Even during Columbus' time, weather and navigation were unreliable. Running aground is dangerous for wooden ships as oscillating ocean waves will cut a ship's hull against rocks. Without electricity and GPS, sailing in the dark depends on vigilance and prayers. We know Old trade map is erroneous.
@levine96629ify I know what your comment is in response to, but Mongolia did have it first and it traveled to Europe. From east to west, not the other way around. You are comparing the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean. You can't do that. Also, Old Trade maps WEREN'T erroneous. They were carefully kept, especially in Italy where trade by ship was the main form of occupation. Running aground would be dangerous assuming there are rocks on every beach, sadly, there aren't. And GPS is still faulty
@painoftheheart12 The Mongolia Theory is the most unlikely explanation since it is unlikely people from remote Mongolia can effectively transmitt the plague through the vast empty land between Europe and Asia. Ships had to sail around Africa to reach Europe as the Suez Canal didn't exist. Believing earth is flat, pre-1492 sailors sailed close to African shores in fear of falling off the earth edge. Hence, the danger of running aground or swept out into the unknown by unchartered current.
@levine96629ify Yet the plauge started in Italy. It didn't come from nowhere, yet it wasn't there before. The only way: TRADE. Who did they trade with? ASIA. Please explain that one.
@painoftheheart12 Yersinia Pestis exist through out the world. Its principle reservoir is the ubiqutous rodents: rats, squirrel, etc. We know unusal environmental changes will place humans in the cycles of certain epidemic. One theory suggest that the rapid urbanization of European cities created environmental conditions favorable to plague, TB, cholera, and other communicable disease. Italy traded throughout the Mediterrainean, the so called known world. The Silkroad discouraged sea voyage.
@levine96629ify Now this is the issue, a plague doesn't just happen. Europe had NEVER had this disease before, as seen by how their entire population was decimated, but the Mongols had a MUCH lower mortality rate. Yes the country wasn't as populated, but while 78-87% of Europe was wiped out, only 45-56% of Asia was effected. That's because they had the plague before, which meant it was native to the area. And sea voyage was still favorable. The silk road took much too long.
@levine96629ify Now this is the issue, a plague doesn't just happen. @Afrocanuk - But it did start with the Mongols. And yes, Europe may have been using the streets as their restroom, but the fact of the matter is that they didn't start the Bubonic Plague. Although, to be fair, another plague would have popped up eventually. And if the Mongols hadn't deliberately spread it then the disease would have, no doubt, made it to Europe anyway.
@melwabz. That's a horrible thing to say, what if it was you who had this disease, you wouldn't be acting like a smart ass then would you. Besides plague happened everywhere spread by anyone all throughout history.
@LadyLuria I suspect yersinia pestis cares little about the aesthetic qualities of its hosts in relation to humans. Bacteria tend to lack that which is required to be devious.
@LadyLuria Fair enough, I just thought it was somewhat misplaced in the context of a documentary in which people are killed because of the belief in the devil, specifically that he inhabited the Jews and women that were blamed for the plague, as well as black cats which ironically would have helped keep down the rat population.
The beliefs of these people were often ironic. I wasn't referring to the devil hysteria that came from the plague, though. As I said, it was a play on words.
Medival Europe use to live like dirty pigs and animals and often went through episodes of plagues. Most of these episodes were minor. This video shows one of the major ones. Also it is not true that mongols brought these plagues to Europe. Mongols actually got it from the the europeans.
This is a good program. However, describing the 1300's in Europe as a beautiful world ( that would come crashing down) is inaccurate. Even princes lived in cold, dark dirty castles. The peasants had it much worse!
I think part of it is that they were accused of having killed Christ ... but also, they had been homeless since the Roman empire smashed their kingdom, and thus powerless -- which meant they were an easy target. They could not defend themselves and virtually nobody else would defend them.
And then a hundred years after this came one of the best moments of European history the "Renaissance" (French for rebirth) Europes culture which had suffered massive blows following the fall of the Roman empire returned in a new great form with artists such as Leonardo da vinci, and Michelangelo yadayadayada happily ever after Lol.
The plague was also caused because in their religious frenzy, they banned all cats (thinking they were connected to witch craft) - therefore unable to control the rat population, the lice on the rats (which carried the plagues) from the east triumphed. Moral of the story, cats are awesome :)
I am learning this in History class. As the disease reigned over Europe, it wiped out 25 million people. With the population lowering, there was more food. The serfs were able to escape the manor and live in cities and towns where festivals took place. Where there was more festival, there were more trade, right?
@SuperBoi45 well its as many as 40 million, the exact number is unsure, but i think 40 million is closer than 25. less people = less trade. at that time there was about 90 million people in europe, no where near full. in 1350 when it ended. there was about 50 million. it did more harm then good for europe. it took along time for europe to recover from this.
@SuperBoi45 killing 40 million people, would mean there would be less. If half of the people died in the US today, or in 2 years as they did in europe. there would be alot of labor shortages, nothing work work right. cities would be about half full. there might not be any law, in some parts of the country, so some can kill you and get away with it. nothing good will come from that.
Yeah, you just have to watch movies like "The Stand" or "Virus" to see what would happen. I mean, as soon as there's no police anymore, people start looting and killing.
@RubicsCubeProduction Acctually we dont need police, they are a huge waiste of tax dollars, besides its not having police that determines weather or not people are going to commit crimes. We have police today & there is millions of unsolved crimes. You want to stop crime, give everbody the same thing. Unfortunetly the imbred redneck republicans wont even give us a "United Healthcare System" so enjoy crime for as long as Imbred Republicans rule in washington.
@Socoolscienceshow A "United Healthcare System" is just a socialized healthcare system. Go look at Canada, see how long they have to wait before they can get any medical help It's not up to the Republicans or the Democrats on whether or not we have socialist healthcare. It's up to we the people, and we the people don't want it. Also not to mention the fact that Democrats have the majority in congress, and have the ability to pass laws without republicans, so please take your ignorance elsewhere.
@Steve1111cc You are so fucking stupid 75% of "WE THE PEOPLE" want universal health care. Its less then 60% of "CONGRESS" who doesnt want Universal Health Care. You dont know anything about Canadas healthcare system. MORON! Canadas health care system has long wait times because of people who are there for reasons they DONT need to be THERE! The people who NEED to be THERE are put infront of everybody who DOESNT need to be THERE! Which creats long wait times. All republicans lies about healthcare
@Socoolscienceshow Actually you have it the other way around. It's about 75% of people who want CHOICE for their health care. I'm not talking about how much of congress wants socialist health care, I'm talking about how the Democrats control congress, which is what you were saying isn't true. If 60% of congress didn't want socialist health care, then why did it pass? And it doesn't matter whether you're dying or not, if you need medical treatment then you need it...
@Socoolscienceshow You shouldn't have to wait for treatment just being someone is considered "more ill" than you. You should get it when you need it. And not to mention, not only are the "sick" people robbing the taxpayers blind, so are these people who apparently don't need treatment. And don't say we have the money for it, we don't. It's actually the Democrats who lie about basically everything and twist their words around to get what they want. Can you say brainwashing?
@Socoolscienceshow And please, stop with the petty insults. It just shows to me how immature and ignorant you are. Well, I really can't expect much from someone who supports the Democrats. This is coming from someone who doesn't support either party, so don't even start that argument.
naaa chief i think happiness is a dirty word i word that is used for sexual desire and oral pleasures i think its ridicules that you would name yourself after something that is sexual i hope u get the plague u sonovoh bitch
i find it wired that the jews always show up in a tragedy and there always persecuted wwll they were killed but how about the gays and the mental ill and they have to be here i think they want attenchen
Christians- according to the Gospel, while it was the Roman Pontius Pilate that ultimately decided Jesus be killed, it was the Jews who demanded this be done and convinced him.
Muslims- They believe that both Christians and Jews were given the true word of God in form of the Torah and Gospel. However, the Jews and Christians allowed their religious texts to be corrupted into their modern copies.
@eurasianchica Actually, that's a later construction by Muslims to explain for the numerous contradictions the 600 year later Koranic text makes in comparison with the Injil (New Testament). Muhammad in writing the Koran made several references to the Injil as being a book which Christians possesed and which confirmed the Koran's message, yet all Muhammad relied on were stories by local Arabic Christian sects of which many taught heretic teachings some of which are found in the Gnostic Gospels.

Yes the country wasn't as populated, but while 78-87% of Europe was wiped out, only 45-56% of Asia was effected. That's because they had the plague before, which meant it was native to the area. And sea voyage was still favorable. The silk road took much too long.

@kzam717 I agree that flea is the vector, no issue with that idea. But my two points were that Yersinia Pestis epidemic started in Europe spread eastward and bubonic plague on board a ship would have killed every sailor and sunk the ship before seeing land during a transcontinental voyage.

They are blaming Mongols for the spread of pestilence when many Europeans themselves were dumping garbage onto their own public streets?
Afrocanuk 1 year ago 2
@Afrocanuk - But it did start with the Mongols. And yes, Europe may have been using the streets as their restroom, but the fact of the matter is that they didn't start the Bubonic Plague. Although, to be fair, another plague would have popped up eventually. And if the Mongols hadn't deliberately spread it then the disease would have, no doubt, made it to Europe anyway.
gOtHiCxAnGeLxox 1 year ago
@melwabz. That's a horrible thing to say, what if it was you who had this disease, you wouldn't be acting like a smart ass then would you. Besides plague happened everywhere spread by anyone all throughout history.

LadyLuria 1 year ago
@LadyLuria I suspect yersinia pestis cares little about the aesthetic qualities of its hosts in relation to humans. Bacteria tend to lack that which is required to be devious.
GaiusIuliusTaberna 1 year ago
@GaiusIuliusTaberna
That was, of course, just an expression. Diseases can't actually be devious, I know. Forgive my imagination and love of wordplay.
LadyLuria 1 year ago
@LadyLuria Fair enough, I just thought it was somewhat misplaced in the context of a documentary in which people are killed because of the belief in the devil, specifically that he inhabited the Jews and women that were blamed for the plague, as well as black cats which ironically would have helped keep down the rat population.
GaiusIuliusTaberna 1 year ago
@GaiusIuliusTaberna

Mongols actually got it from the the europeans.

why the fuck does everyone hate jews?
windofthegods 1 year ago
@windofthegods
I think part of it is that they were accused of having killed Christ ... but also, they had been homeless since the Roman empire smashed their kingdom, and thus powerless -- which meant they were an easy target. They could not defend themselves and virtually nobody else would defend them.

SuperBoi45 1 year ago
@SuperBoi45 well its as many as 40 million, the exact number is unsure, but i think 40 million is closer than 25. less people = less trade. at that time there was about 90 million people in europe, no where near full. in 1350 when it ended. there was about 50 million. it did more harm then good for europe. it took along time for europe to recover from this.
GordonRyan80 1 year ago
@SuperBoi45 killing 40 million people, would mean there would be less. If half of the people died in the US today, or in 2 years as they did in europe. there would be alot of labor shortages, nothing work work right. cities would be about half full. there might not be any law, in some parts of the country, so some can kill you and get away with it. nothing good will come from that.
GordonRyan80 1 year ago
@GordonRyan80
Yeah, you just have to watch movies like "The Stand" or "Virus" to see what would happen. I mean, as soon as there's no police anymore, people start looting and killing.
RubicsCubeProduction 1 year ago
@RubicsCubeProduction Acctually we dont need police, they are a huge waiste of tax dollars, besides its not having police that determines weather or not people are going to commit crimes. We have police today & there is millions of unsolved crimes. You want to stop crime, give everbody the same thing. Unfortunetly the imbred redneck republicans wont even give us a "United Healthcare System" so enjoy crime for as long as Imbred Republicans rule in washington.
Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago
@Socoolscienceshow A "United Healthcare System" is just a socialized healthcare system. Go look at Canada, see how long they have to wait before they can get any medical help It's not up to the Republicans or the Democrats on whether or not we have socialist healthcare. It's up to we the people, and we the people don't want it. Also not to mention the fact that Democrats have the majority in congress, and have the ability to pass laws without republicans, so please take your ignorance elsewhere.
Steve1111cc 1 year ago
@Steve1111cc You are so fucking stupid 75% of "WE THE PEOPLE" want universal health care. Its less then 60% of "CONGRESS" who doesnt want Universal Health Care. You dont know anything about Canadas healthcare system. MORON! Canadas health care system has long wait times because of people who are there for reasons they DONT need to be THERE! The people who NEED to be THERE are put infront of everybody who DOESNT need to be THERE! Which creats long wait times. All republicans lies about healthcare
Socoolscienceshow 1 year ago
@Socoolscienceshow Actually you have it the other way around. It's about 75% of people who want CHOICE for their health care. I'm not talking about how much of congress wants socialist health care, I'm talking about how the Democrats control congress, which is what you were saying isn't true. If 60% of congress didn't want socialist health care, then why did it pass? And it doesn't matter whether you're dying or not, if you need medical treatment then you need it...
Steve1111cc 1 year ago
@Socoolscienceshow You shouldn't have to wait for treatment just being someone is considered "more ill" than you. You should get it when you need it. And not to mention, not only are the "sick" people robbing the taxpayers blind, so are these people who apparently don't need treatment. And don't say we have the money for it, we don't. It's actually the Democrats who lie about basically everything and twist their words around to get what they want. Can you say brainwashing?
Steve1111cc 1 year ago
@Socoolscienceshow And please, stop with the petty insults. It just shows to me how immature and ignorant you are. Well, I really can't expect much from someone who supports the Democrats. This is coming from someone who doesn't support either party, so don't even start that argument.

The "blood libel." Also the centuries old belief that Jews had a role in killing Christ--just ask Mel Gibson.
Like American blacks or European Arabs, they were forced into slums, which fed the rumors that they were somehow plotting against non-Jews.
JRS1982 2 years ago
reply to bitch6661234
warning- don't read if you're easily offended.
However, the Jews and Christians allowed their religious texts to be corrupted into their modern copies.
eurasianchica 2 years ago
@eurasianchica Actually, that's a later construction by Muslims to explain for the numerous contradictions the 600 year later Koranic text makes in comparison with the Injil (New Testament). Muhammad in writing the Koran made several references to the Injil as being a book which Christians possesed and which confirmed the Koran's message, yet all Muhammad relied on were stories by local Arabic Christian sects of which many taught heretic teachings some of which are found in the Gnostic Gospels.
