technically not ragtime. Ragtime is piano, and hardly ever incorporates horns. This is literaly Dixieland music. Lol it's pretty damn similar though. And this is great
@iCharleyStudios The title of this song is : Alexander's Ragtime Band. A big hit from 1911, with composer credits for Irving Berlin. It invites you to go to a party, where a great ragtime band is playing. Indeed it is not in ragtime form, as it is a verse - refrain song. Early Jazz (name it Dixieland, New Orleans whatever you want) has strong roots in Ragtime, esp. the multi strain songs, like the great Jelly Roll Morton and King Oliver records. Maybe early jazz is a mix of blues and ragtime.
ran across the Crackerjacks by accident after watching bass sax duet on Bill Bailey. What a treat!! Didn't think this music existed outside "Nawlins". Not much European exposure in Missouri!
You guys are just great. Please come to the United States. I think I'm in love with Slidin Selena. She is always ther with that beautiful bone. I don't think I have heard anyone better or more tasteful. Sure would like to hear a clarinet in there for some smoke signals.
Some Dixieland lovers consider the very best Dixieland band to have been Turk Murphy, and the very best of his recordings to have been the late 1950's LP recording "Dancing Music," which fairly recently was re-released on a compilation-CD called "New Orleans Stomp."
i love this tune! a friend of mine is singing it in a show this week, a slowed down jazzy version. so cool! they just dont write them like they used to...
