  • it just formating dalvic chache and its beee sitting there for ten minitues is that normal

  • you basically do the same thing as flashing a ROM. Download the kernel. Go to Recovery. Wipe ONLY cache AND Dalvik Cache NOT data. Then flash the kernel and you're all set. :)

  • Just wasted 13 minutes of my life waiting for you to explain how to load up a new Kernel only for you to finish this vid with an explanation of how to restore back to original ROM, nothing about Kernel...... FML...

  • @FunkteonRecordings watch it again. he does explain.

  • thanks man... for all your help!! subscribing

  • thanks bro

  • Its pronounced cash, not cash-a just to let you know

  • @Josh67140 lol i know it is. But the first video I did I was flooded with people asking what was "cash". So to make it simpler and to stop the email floods I just pronounced it phonetically.

  • I agree with everyone. This is a great video! It eased my worries of rooting my phone for the first time. Thanks!!!

  • What's everyone think of the Freedom ROM's versus the vaelpak romROMS? Which is better for stability and slight under/overclocking?

  • what is the website?

  • How can I take of a Rom? And set my EVO back to normal?

  • @yormama11 To do that you are gonna have to unroot it. You will have to find a program that unroots what you used to root.

  • @yormama11 if you used unrevoked to root your phone, or any other application, just go to google and do a search like, "how to unroot evo 4g unkrevoked" im sure you will find something. :D

  • So I did originally root my phone with the unrevoked method...do I need to unroot my phone now, and re-root it with the Froyo method?

  • Great video man...thanks for taking the time to do this.

  • Great tutorial! No matter what Rom or Kernel you flash you have to wipe the device?

  • Great tutorial, thank you so much! It makes flashing my EVO less scary.

  • currently i have my htc evo running on boostmobile. Also, its running on froyo 2.2 and i wanted to update the rom to gingerbread 2.3. i was wondering if i flash it would it reset my phone to sprint. by the way i paid 75$ to have it on boost, so i dont want to have to pay again. i also, want to test out flashing kernels but i dont want to risk it if i have to pay to have it on boost again pls help me.

  • Looks good. Will try this method. Is it still up to date?

  • how do i do a regular update without messing up the flash

  • @SAXORXIII never do official sprint updates. You can brick the phone. Just keep an eye on whatever ROM you uses threads on the forums. You'll see updates there

  • I an new ti this!!!!!!

  • This video could help me to connect my evo 4g with Metro PCS???

    please anyone reply :)

  • Great video.. Did my first Rom came out great.Explained in simple format, a 4 yr old can do it.

  • thank you so much for this video, you did a great job. everything worked out fine for me. no complaints here

  • unrevoked is def the way to root your phone...simple and smooth

  • When i download a kernel, it is in a folder with no .zip files. What do i do?

  • Unrevoked worked for me and I'm running myn's warm 2.2 rsl 5 and its fast and very stable.. best Rom out their and most sexy looking too!!!

  • How would I undo an unrevoked root?

  • Did exactly as you said and everything went very smoothly. Thank you very much for making this video!

  • @MegaMnguyen Apps2SD is what u need in order to do that.

  • How do I root my phone? it just seems so complicated.

  • Yo Jerzy! I just flashed Myn's dude it issoooooooo smooth and so fast!!!! I love it, I had flashed cyanogens but I lost camera capability or at least it keep crashing, but Myn's revived it, I just love this freakin ROM!

  • I Didnt Learn A Damn Thing hahaa All These Words And Computer Stuff Is Too Much For Me!haa But Damn I Really Would Like TO Have My Evo Flashed<--Like That Word Flash Not Really Sure What It Has To Do With The Phone I Thought It Was A Light!haa

  • i have never used odin in my entire life :D cwm and sgs kernel flasher is so much easyer.

  • Thanks for all the kind comments. I'm REALLY happy this video helped so many people. I never thought it would have helped as many people as it has. :)

  • @MegaMnguyen go to settings > applications > manage appliations > all > then tap on the app you want to move to your SD card and you should see Move to SD Card highlighted. Tap it. Not all apps can be moved tho. And SOMETIMES it may cause issues with the widget of that app thats moved.

  • Made everything crystal clear! So to do a new kernel just download it to SD and after flashing the new Rom you clear the SD partition and the devik and reboot, right?

  • Omg, thank you SO much for this video!!! I was freaking out about rooting and flashing a rom, but you made it easy and much less stressfull!

  • Do you need to wipe everything if you're just changing the kernel?

I already installed the ROM, but now I want to change the kernel. Do I have to go back and wipe everything again?

  • Awesome. No BS. *Like*

  • How do I get back my contacts? I used both Titanium Backup and ROM Manager, but i'm not sure how to get it back using either of these. Any help? No I don't have HTC Sync because it's not compatible with Mac.

  • i know a bunch of poeple along with myself that have done the unrevoked root and have flashed a bunch of roms and kernels and have had zero problems so i don't think its the root problem bbut more the users problem and not doing a proper flash or some thing so i wouldn't worry about flashing with unrevoked i've done it over a dozen times with zero problems

  • Thanks for posting this. I wish I had viewed your video before I spent hours making sure I was not going to brick my phone because I was not sure what I was doing.

  • Thanks for this video buddy. I'm much more of a visual learner.

  • what kernal did you install?

  • mine is getting stuck on the boot screen for like 20 mins??? please help!

  • Looking for updated directions on rotting Evo 2.2, can anyone help me out with that one, thanks.

  • I also would like to add that syncing like the way you did DIDN'T SAVE my contacts..but I found a way to do that. I used my nandroid backup to go back and you just go to 'people' and hit menu and export to sd. Then when you boot up the new rom just do the same thing except put 'import from SD'. I didn't care about the txt messages though lol Nice video otherwise. PS Titanium Backup(free version) let me do batch; just thought I would throw that in there(backed up with appbrain also)

  • I like the confidence in your voice, sounds gay but I wish I could sound like that in my videos.

  • wise chips FTW

  • Appreciate the refresher, forgot everything since I flashed DamageControl (which seems to have since died as a project) a couple months ago. Let's see what this Warm TwoPointTwo is all about.

  • @dmexs Myn's is really good. It's a full Sense ROM so it's not my thing but it's still really good. It's more of a heavily themed ROM than any thing else. But it' still really good. My personal favorite is VaelPak.

  • i noticed your rom/kernal icons looked like a rar file. when i download roms they are all zipped (.zip)

  • @fanaticofutube Nope.. They're .zip

  • I install a new rom. I ws wondering if the new rom will have all my applications or i have to installed back.

  • @boyaa35 Nope. That's why in the beginning I mentioned about backing up your apps. You have two choices to backup your apps. You can use Titanium Pro and it'll back up not only the apps, but also the data. But do know that a lot of people have issues with it not backing up right. Or, you can use app brain which just backups the app not the data.

  • @jerzyiroc Thanks so much for video! I did this using unrevoked 3.21 root. Try out warm twopointtwo~

  • @JerzyIroc This is the first rom I have tried to flash and damnit it keeps getting stuck on the boot screen and has yet to load, I have followed all the directions done everything and it still has yet to work and none of the forums can help

  • @DaS718 Shoot over to the Evo Hacks section on Android Central. I'm always on there. I'll see if I can help you.

  • 2. I don't have to swipe since i never had custom rom im assuming. so go to nandroid and back up my stock rom(something like that).

    3. get a custom rom put on sd card. go to recovery mode and hboot I think. then go down to where the rom is on your sd card and wait like 2 or 3 mins and that's it..........Think that sounds about right, not sure

  • ok good. Haven't started doing anything yet but can you tell me if I got everything pack down far as rooting then saving my rom and installing a new rom.

    1. use revoke3. put the phone in recovery mode and go to hboot and plug your phone up to computer. Then go to device manager and update the driver wherever I saved the android driver files.

    2. then go open up unrevoked 3 and let them root my Evo 4g. After it's rooted go to recovery mode and click nandroid

  • when you do the nandroid rom backup does it save on your phone or to the SD card?(if not how do you get it to save on the sd card then save it on your computer?)

  • @uniqueCD4ya It saves to the SD card. Whatever you do, DO NOT RENAME THE BACKUP IN YOUR SD!!! Do it through ROM Manager!

  • I spoke before i did more research. I ended up going unrevoked and havent had any problems. tried to follow directions in link but it did not work. and they were not very clear. so i used unrevoked on my Mac and it worked like a charm. used these instructions to flash and backup without problems. Good vid.

  • @KnoPainVI Awesome! I'm happy it helped! Rooting the traditional way is a pita on a Mac. I hope everything works out in the future after using unrevoked. You're smart though, you read and did research before doing anything. HUGE cudos for doin that man. Most problems is because people click first, read later lol.

  • I spoke before i did more research. I ended up going unrevoked and havent had any problems.

  • I think this is a great addition to the text instructions floating around the various forums. I know when I first started I didn't realize I had to go in to the recovery menu to get the NANDroid backup.

Just an FYI: cache is pronounced "cash", not "cash-aye".

  • @dgqfan Lol ya I know how to pronounce it.. I did it because the last video I did where I pronounced it "cash", I had about 50 emails asking what is "cash" and where to find it o_O lol...

I'm glad it helped you though. I'm a visual type of person which is why I made this. I figured it'll help people get a visual of what to do, but after they read up first.

  • @JerzyIroc That is hilarious that people were asking where the "cash" was. I guess I took it for granted that people who were hacking their phones would be uber-geeks like me. Guess that is a good sing that Android is making its way in to the forefront.

  • @JerzyIroc And BTW - Great job picking Myn's for the example. I am on that rom right now and am loving it. I hope he gets a ton of support (via donations) to keep it updated. It is, as the kids say, tits.

  • @nikzadjoon ooo. No sorry dude... This is a video to show you how to flash a custom rom or kernel. Not sure how to get the Evo running on a different network. head over to XDA. Their might be a thread on how to do that

  • what if i already rooted it the unrevoked way?

  • @kt91191 You can still try it. But there's a lot of people that have issues with flashing roms after using unrevoked. You can try it but I can't guarantee anything

  • Stupid Question, and i know you said to post to the android central forums page. But, this video is just how to flash the rom/kernal correct? Meaning that there are still all the other steps you have to do like Hboot USB, etc? Basically i couldn't just follow this video step by step and be rooted. I'd have to follow all the directions on the links above right?

  • @KnoPainVI This video isn't on how to root your phone. It is assuming you are already rooted and this is only on how to flash a new ROM or kernel.

If you need to root your phone, there is a link at the beginning of the video with information on rooting.

  • Huge help! Youre the man, thanksss a million!

  • @randomhero1172 Glad it helped!

  • I just wanted to say I did this and everything worked perfectly, thank you very much :). My first time flashing my rom :D

  • @hasse1 Awesome! Glad it helped!
