@ElectronHexagon Yes, completely. Ever play in an orchestra? The conductor is vital to a group like this making this artistic achievement. Yes, I played.
@lpkluis I've played in several orchestras/symphonies and my father is a conductor. The music can be agreed upon by the musicians for style and pace. The conductor 'can' be a vital part but in reality they're there simply for stylistic concepts. His job ultimately is to start and stop the group. Its just my opinion but conductors for the most part are over paid glory hounds, sorry. At a high school or college level they're important for the means of teaching.
tophatandtails: I understand what you are saying, but I don't think that this is necessarily a bad thing. He didn't build this movement around one theme, but rather around a group of different motifs. If you feel the need for a movement to have one big theme, then yes, Beethoven, Bach, Tchaikovsky, etc. are better composers for you to listen to. But still, you should just try to enjoy the movement.
I must really be an idiot...I find the first movement rather ?? I don't know the word, The individual parts are all fine, but there's no clear theme rises to the top...that can be remembered...as in the music of Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky... that's just me. Sorry.
Mahler's music is incredibly complex and difficult to understand. It takes often decades of musical experience and dozens of listenings to actually learn what he was trying to say in his music.
Thank you so much for posting this sublime rendition of the Mahler Symphony #2. Bernstein always had a marvelous understanding of Mahler and produced some fantastic recordings as a result.
madone1crew, no need at all to apologize for your English... Your beautiful spirit communicates what's in your heart so beautifully... and very clearly. Wish we could have heard you sing... Just think... you helped portray all of this splendor to the world.... Congratulations... and Maestro Mahler would be grateful! Sing on!

Conductors: And individual needed to start and stop the orchestra.
No need to even film the guy. The musicians produce the music. :)

It reminds me of the moment before Han blows up the Death Star. I bet John Williams drew inspiration from this.

@23GrandMasterK Haha I think you mean John Williams plaigerized it, just like he does for 90% of his works.
