Championship Wrestling with Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson. A Saturday afternoon staple. This was probably the final match of the hour as they would usually have an angle to close out the show. I would love for wrestling to be presented this way again on TV, but alas..
@philaman1972 For me it was Sunday morning. I couldn't wait until the following week to see what was to transpire. In todays wrestling they have blurred the lines between good and bad and are trying way to hard to sell an angle. They need to get back to this type of presentation.
Andre used to be able to throw standing dropkicks at one point, when he was under 400lbs.
Man, The Animal was SUCH a great character in the ring. His wrestling may not have been the best, but he could sure get the crowd behind him. And he could MOVE for a big man, too.
This was a smarter presentation. The staples of promos during the match gave a busy, but good aura. Today s is dummed down and the mic time is too slow mo.
Gilberto Roman was the perfect referee for this match as Gil was probably the worst ref of all time. He never seemed to be able to control the wrestlers & the heels seemed to be able to get away with murder with him.
Interesting. Steele & Khan, 2 of the biggest monster heels of their day vs. future superstar Curt Hennig & the always tough SD Jones. Crazy match for its day with erratic brawling & blatant use of both foriegn objects & outside interference.
This is great stuff. Thanks for posting. I loved it when Patterson would ask McMahon during any given George Steele match "Vince, can you imagine living next door to this man?"
Holy cow! I remember the first pairing of Killer Khan & George Steele. It was for the taping of the syndicated WOR show. It was hilarious, the match lasted 2 minutes tops, and Vince Jr was laughing so hard at the way they wrestled. They were so disorganized, they couldn't even tag each other and they used a water pitcher in that match too. Ahhh, those were the days!
I agree. THIS IS WRESTLING! Still looking for someone to post the vid when Patterson got Pearl Harbored by King Kong Mosca with that water pitcher. as the credits roled MacMahon yelled "Pat Paterson Destroyed!!!!!"
yeah, and patterson was only doing a promo with dick woerlee(?)after he disqualified mosca in a match against frankie williams, i believe. i'd love to see that too
I miss those days of pro wrestling. I saw that match on tv, it was "All Star Wrestling" that came on every Saturday at 5pm on WPTT channel 22 in Pittsburgh. I would watch it every Sat. religiously. Man I miss those days!
LOL the ring announcer said "the time of the match 5 minutes 79.... excuse me 5 minutes 29 seconds." Funny. Albano and Killer Kahn were both pretty big guys, but Andre dwarfed them.
I know how Steele got the green toungue the story goes is he went out drinking before wrestling and didn't want the promoter to find out so he put a breath mint in his mouth that turned his toungue green.
Does anyone remember the "marriage" of The Animal's daughter? They televised it and at the end she lifted her veil, stuck her tongue out and her tongue was green too. They ended up trashing a cafeteria at the reception. That was the funniest WWF moment ever. Someone post it, please!!

Fun stuff throughout.
This was very early in Curt Hennig's career as he debuted in 1980, so at this point he was some seven years from becoming Mr. Perfect.
George Steele rules.

What a great match.
This guy was my favourite to watch in the '80s.
Good to see footage of him when he was a crazy heel.

Greatest refereeing job of all-time, except Gilberto Roman should've disqualified Jones and Hennig via outside interference by Andre.
