@NJatTheDisco I know but this just shows how bad Sallie Mae really is! I'm fine with free market captialism, but Sallie Mae is a prime example of socialism. Congress was lobbied hard by Sallie Mae not to pass a law related to Direct Stafford Loans (which is from the US Federal Government and not Sallie Mae) but didn't pass a while back. Sallie Mae is basically given tax payer money at the same time colleges get paid by them to drive their students to take loans from them.

"This call may be monitored for quality assurance" Doesn't that statement go both ways when they begin the conversation? It seems puzzling when they claim they are recording a conversation, yet say the call is not allowed to be recorded.

I record all calls I receive in regards to financial obligations. And yes IT IS harassment when you order them to cease and decist calling. Its best to get their full name, physical address where they're calling from, and the employee's job title as well.

@castawayds It most certaintly does go both ways. Even in a two party consent state, you will have captured their consent from the "this call may be monitored . . ." statement. You could then record it without notifying them and present your consent thereto at the time you use the recording. It goes without saying that you consented by generating/producing your recording; and you can say easily that you consented to your own recording.

Sallie Mae has a legal right to call you as you owe them money. I do not see what is so controversial about this. This recording was made for various reasons. It started off as a joke, and thats all that it was meant to be. Some of the comments i've received remind of things that a SM rep would say. Makes me wonder if they visit youtube when they should be harassing people that owe roughly 100 dollars. Nevertheless, the calls stopped after I told them I moved to mexico (which is not true obviously, but I wanted to hear their response.) Saying they would garnish my mexican wages was funny and worth it. Lol

The reason why they record the calls is to make sure that the representative is doing their job, not to use the call against you. Recording the call is only done to make sure that your representative is doing his or her job. Now if you record the call when you call Sallie Mae, and the rep says that they don't give their permission to have the call recorded it is to protect that particular representative. If you have an issue with the company and want to come back and sue the company, fine.
