It seems like this song is about a relationship where one person is the optimist and one is the pessimist. The one who wants to fly away believes that they are in love and they don't question it, but the other has experienced so much hurt and pain that they're too afraid to take a risk again so they stay close to the wire, which is their fears, and they end up ruining what they didn't want to be ruined in the first place by comparing their current relationship to a past one. =(

I think this song is about broken friendship? The two birds are friends, and the wire can be a belief. And one is just too stubborn to leave that belief whereas the other has already given up. It is a deep song whith many interpretations i guess, but it is still beautiful, like all her other songs.

Also, the two friends remind me of Charles and Erik from Xmen: First Class cuz they have similiar beliefs but different approaches so they separated :(
