  • oh bullshit...socialists are no more cruel and stupid when greedy and powerful than when capitalists are. it's not about the system of government, but rather the corruption of it. Despots come in all shades.

  • The native Americans were more pious. They left maggots in wounds, that these larvae might do the Almightys work, and thus avoided the misery of gangrene. It took us centuries for Europeans to figure out that trick.

But Twain is right. We ought to be humble, and not put upon others with our false intellectual superiority. The universe is very big, we know very little about it, and it's unwise to pretend otherwise.

  • @DrCruel: as you prove.. wisdom is more important than intellectualism... we need to discard religion and other stupidity

  • @davidmanhart1 Do you count amongst their number the idiotic religion of socialism?

  • @DrCruel I so completely agree! Socialism is religion for the stupid.

  • @davidmanhart1 Thank you for your support, but I cannot return the favor. Too many socialists have prospered (albeit at the expense of everyone else), and have often suffered only at the hands of other socialists. For a few exceptionally brutal and cunning socialists, their creed insured them a lifelong vocation as unfetterd despots.

Thus socialism is not a religion of the stupid. It is instead a faith for professional beggars and pirates, thieves and cutthroats. All intend to profit thereby.

  • i'm too drunk for this

  • What fantastic writing. Mark Twain was a truly gifted individual.

  • Fideists do not come to believe in God based on reason and, accordingly, any further appeal to reason will not sway them to abandon their position.

The irony is that making such an argument in these circumstances is patently unreasonable, itself.

  • This is superb.I didn't know that Twain wrote so passionately and brilliantly about superstitious nonsense.thanks for the video-I'll be reading more Twain now

  • @henryporter101 If you haven't already, read Letters From the Earth.

  • @ThatDifferentDude Thanks for the tip.I'll have a look for it.

  • This is obviously a hoax Twain did like 10 years ago . JOKE

  • great, but not hitchens speaking

  • @phuturexy Obviously, read the description. It is only an excerpt from Hitchen's book where he cites Twain and thus states narrated by Nicholas Ball.

  • Brilliant!

  • His auto-bio out soon. October, I believe

  • Poetry, sheer poetry ! No wonder Twain isn't more read.

  • This is so pleasant to hear.
