From Wilkipedia, Bob Seger attended Lincoln Park High for one year..
Seger attended Tappan Junior High School (now Tappan Middle School) and graduated from Pioneer High School in 1963. He ran track and field in high school. Seger also went to Lincoln Park High School for a year.[3]
Seger has stated that the first musicians "that really got to me" were Little Richard and Elvis Presley.[4] "Come Go With Me" by The Del Vikings, a hit in 1957, was the first record he bought.
Great song about my birth city. Born in Outerdrive Hospital, (Its no longer called Outerdrive Hospital). I grew up on Applewood between Farnham and Champaign across from Keppen school. I left for 23 year to live in Woodhaven. Came back and bought a house 8 blocks from where I grew up. I stay in LP on Mill street. Bob Seger was and is still great.......
GREAT to see people remember Bill Mueller played guitar on this and give props. His band, Julia, was Seger's band at that time, they were still in or just out of high school, that Lincoln Park line was about them.
@dougkahan Yeah, I remember Julia. The first time I saw them was in a hay field east of Memphis, Michigan on a hay wagon powered by a gas generator at night in about 1971 or so. Then saw Bob play with Julia at Bimbos in Ypsi a couple of months before he started Silver Bullet...sat about 7 feet from Seger.
I'll never forget visiting Lincoln Park (from the Pittsburgh area) every summer in the late 70's to see my great-aunt. Everywhere u went kids were playing the guitar, drums, whatever...even the gals loll. The sound that came from those suburb blocks... He's a Michigan icon!! ~Great memories!!....Thank you Bob Seger. :))
GAWD!! Where did music like this go?!! I mean, I like modern music (even Dubstep selectively), n there are some really great, authentic bands out there, but music with this *feeling* is hard to come by. I guess things were more carefree back then. ??
One band that really reminds me of Seger's stuff is "Kings of Leon". If U haven't heard them yet, n u like this, check em out. "Pick-up Truck" is the best. "Mi Amigo", "Sex on Fire", "Mary" and "Use Somebody" of course. :) Thx for the UL!
Wow! He must have a huge catalog of exceptional stuff that's mostly unknown. The "digital era" will reveal his genius to today's youth. Seger is more prolific than I imagined. We need heros these days.
@DetroitJJ back in 71 I graduated from Aquinas HS and lived in LP. I definately got homesick for my home and friends in Lincoln Park in 72 will I was away at CMU.
@TulipXX I was a teenager and in early twentys in 70s and i sweari cant recall most of the 70s and the 80s, the 80s are complete blank. Talking to wife about it she said well it was the 70s i guess that settled it geez. Whose my wife cant remember. Remember Seger though, and the great Ronnie Van Zant original Lynyrd Skynyrd of the 70s. but rest is blur
@starbearry The seventies was filled with great music. People who feel as you must've been listening to, well, they probably weren't listening to much, other than what the mainstream, but then many great singers and, musicians were mainstream. I'd have to say that you weren't listening.
@MrPotatoesLatkie Dont be so quick to dismiss people who dont like the same music you do. Actually I was listening, more than most of the people around me. Music was most of my life then. I was playing in a band and into the prog-rock stuff. Yes,Genesis, Gentle Giant etc. There was very little in the way of quality metal cept maybe Sabbath. Most of the mainstream was just downbeat, depressing stuff but we had to play it anyway to keep the customers happy. But I was always searching for better
@starbearry It's not dismissing people who don't like what I like. There is so much from the 1970's that's very good, but then I'm talking about it after youtube has come out with things most people in the 1970's probably didn't listen to., because it was more regional.
My personal favorite from Bob is "Turn the Page" =) I guess we all have our personal favorites.. xD All that aside, everything from Mr. Seger is great. xD
Bill Mueller is playing guitar here. He was from Schafer High School in Southgate right across the street from Aquinas H.S. He is better known as "Blue Miller" from the Gibson -Miller Band. That bar in Lincoln Park was probably down the street from the Porno Theater on Fort St. that Seger would play at on a lot of weekends, hence the Reference to Lincoln Park. For a Catholic School, Aquinas had killer concerts-Seger, Alice, Frijid Pink, SRC, Rationals, those were the days.........
@stuckindetroilet yeah bro, what great music came out of S.E. Michigan in the late 60's and early 70's.......The Rationals, never got the big break but a great bar band that could burn down the stage. Harpos on the east side kicked ass too.
The guitar tones on this album are the closest to the gritty live sound most bands of the day... Bill Mueller had it going.... he just DUG in and crunched it.
Back in 72 woo hoo! Loved early Seger - the hideout, St Clair Shores Civic Arena - nothing like a concert in Michigan. And to think I still have this album in vinyl!
Seger really needs to release the whole album in remastered digital. I heard he has the rights to it but won't do it. It's a crime this classic album still hasn't been afforded the same treatment as others from the era. A good box set of Seger material is even more overdue.
@motownmaniax I heard SEGAR doesn't like a lot of his early stuff......don't know why, he Rocked HARDER when he was young....everything after "LIVE BULLIT" was to POPISH!!
Im homesick for Lincoln Park too. I enjoyed getting the insurance money since my house was always getting firebombed and my cars were always getting stolen. Yay.
Seen him at the Lincoln Park theater when he had just come out with this album. Frigid Pink was there plus another band i can't remember. They also showed the Rolling Stones film "Gimme Shelter". Cost somewhere between 3 and 5 bucks. Great show. A couple months later he was selling out Cobo.
my memories are hazy going back to the early 70s...wlld wednesdays were at sherwood forest in davison..??..not quite sure on that...saw bob play a lot around s.e. michigan including the old (now gone forever) I.M.A. auditorium in flint...mr seger deserves some type of lifetime achievment award..the guy and his music are among the best....thanks for posting this...!!..love it..
I wish this lp would be released again maybe they could remix it and put it out in a nice box set. Bob has a LOT of unreleased songs that would work really well in that form.
"Tricky Dick sure played it slick....back in '72".
OMG! This is just classic. There was so much going in that general time era. The Vietnam War was raging. In 1973 Watergate broke onto the scene with Nixon resigning in 1974. In 1974 Coleman Young took over as mayor of Detroit....For better or worse they were VERY memorable times.
Seger won't allow this to be re-issued because he doesn't like the production. Thinks it's too muddy. Which is why this works so well. Noah (despite the great title track) and Brand New Morning are best left unissued.
i just wish i could HEAR them.....ive heard a few songs but the whole albums no.....im a seger freak i dont care if it sounds muddy i just wanna hear it LOL
I saw Seger at the Lincoln Park theatre with 2 other bands and they screened the Stones "Gimme Shelter". Cost 3$. A few months later Seger was selling out Cobo
I can't believe how great Bob Seger's commercially unavailable work is. Hail Seger, and let the powers that be release all of Seger's work in all its shining glory!!!!
I found a seller on e-bay who lives in Austria who has (real) professional cd's of all of segers out of print cd's. These are not crackly LP transfers or cheap cdr-rs they are professionally remastered by an overseas record company of some type. The sound on these even surpases the sound of seger's remasters. The price is phenominal as well...22-24 dollars U.S. with 3 to 5 dollar shipping. I bought noah, back in 72 and brand new morning. Rambling gambling man, mongrel are also available.
Back in 71 or 72 ,I saw him in Wilkes-Barre. Maybe he will come back. i would respect him more if he came to the Kirby ,where he once performed than the Arena that caters to the high and the mighty.
So arenas cater to the "high and mighty?" I go to arenas all the time and had no idea I was part of the "high and mighty". Woo hoo! You sure gave my ego a boost! Now get off your marxist stump, keilbasa head. PS: I'll bet Seger would "respect you more" if you could actually scrape up the funds to buy one f***ing ticket, ya know?
Seriously, I'll send you the necessary funds so you and a friend can attend a concert, sporting event, you-name-it, in an actual A*R*E*N*A, and you can join us "high and mighty" folk. Not only that, I'll send you wax for your palstic flamingo, some heavy duty black Knapp shoes with rubber soles and a pair of heavy grey sox, so you can have something nice to wear at weddings and funerals. Just give me your size...
It's about time that this came out on CD. It's just too brilliant and soulful to remain hard to find. Not that there's anything wrong with listening to a masterpiece like this on vinyl. :).
Bob,we need you to play at Dearborn Homecoming! Come see us in Downriver!! We need to hear that you got lonesome for Lincoln Park! We helped you get started--come home!!

The Stooges then graced the stage with Iggy in female panties grossing everyone out. Then Bob blew the roof off the place. You gotta love Detroit!
