Hmong in USA? what name to use or call themselves? How about Hmiao. Because I have seen lots of literature with the name of Hmong/Miao. If we don;t want the slash in between, we can shorten that to HMIAO. This is a good abbreviation for Hmong/Miao after all and it's fair because we take the first "HM" initial of Hmong and plus the IAO finals of MIAO. HM+IAO = HMIAO. Let me know what you guys think.
@jeffxeemwang Hey folk, what a stupid idea you have here!!! Miao is a name in Chinese for Hmong. When the Hmong people in China speak in their native language, they always refer themselves as Hmong, not Miao. The name Miao only kicks in when people speak in reference to the Hmong in Chinese. The name Miao is not acceptable and should not exist in any other languages besides Chinese.
Studied Francais a long time ago but basically he, Chong-Ly, is saying he does not know what Miao is thus he is not Miao. And he is unsure whether he is Hmong either.
More or less a confused and lost individual about their ethnic identity. (At least that is how I interprete - translate the message. Could be off a little but not by much.)
